1 O r Giacobbe udì le parole dei figli di Labano, che dicevano: «Giacobbe si è preso tutto ciò che era di nostro padre; e con quello che era di nostro padre si è fatto tutta questa ricchezza».

And he heareth the words of Laban's sons, saying, `Jacob hath taken all that our father hath; yea, from that which our father hath, he hath made all this honour;'

2 G iacobbe notò pure il volto di Labano; ed ecco, verso di lui non era piú quello di prima.

and Jacob seeth the face of Laban, and lo, it is not with him as heretofore.

3 P oi l'Eterno disse a Giacobbe: «Torna al paese dei tuoi padri e al tuo parentado, e io sarò con te.

And Jehovah saith unto Jacob, `Turn back unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I am with thee.'

4 A llora Giacobbe mandò a chiamare Rachele e Lea, perché venissero nei campi, presso il suo gregge,

And Jacob sendeth and calleth for Rachel and for Leah to the field unto his flock;

5 e disse loro: Io vedo che il volto di vostro padre verso di me non è piú quello di prima; ma il DIO di mio padre è stato con me.

and saith to them, `I am beholding your father's face -- that it is not towards me as heretofore, and the God of my father hath been with me,

6 E voi sapete che io ho servito il padre vostro con tutta la mia forza,

and ye -- ye have known that with all my power I have served your father,

7 m entre vostro padre mi ha ingannato e ha mutato il mio salario dieci volte; ma DIO non gli ha permesso di farmi del male.

and your father hath played upon me, and hath changed my hire ten times; and God hath not suffered him to do evil with me.

8 S e egli diceva: «I capi chiazzati saranno il tuo salario», tutto il gregge figliava agnelli chiazzati; e se diceva: "I capi striati saranno il tuo salario", tutto il gregge figliava agnelli striati.

`If he say thus: The speckled are thy hire, then bare all the flock speckled ones; and if he say thus: The ring-straked are thy hire, then bare all the flock ring-straked;

9 C osì DIO ha tolto il bestiame a vostro padre e lo ha dato a me.

and God taketh away the substance of your father, and doth give to me.

10 U na volta, al tempo che le greggi entravano in calore, io alzai gli occhi e vidi in sogno che i capri che montavano le femmine erano striati, chiazzati e screziati.

`And it cometh to pass at the time of the flock conceiving, that I lift up mine eyes and see in a dream, and lo, the he-goats, which are going up on the flock, ring-straked, speckled, and grisled;

11 E l'angelo di DIO mi disse in sogno: "Giacobbe!". Io risposi: "Eccomi!".

and the messenger of God saith unto me in the dream, Jacob, and I say, Here I.

12 E gli allora disse: "Alza ora gli occhi e guarda; tutti i montoni che montano le femmine sono striati, chiazzati e screziati, perché ho veduto tutto quello che Labano ti fa.

`And He saith, Lift up, I pray thee, thine eyes, and see -- all the he-goats which are going up on the flock ring-straked, speckled, and grisled, for I have seen all that Laban is doing to thee;

13 I o sono il DIO di Bethel, dove tu ungesti una stele e mi facesti un voto. Ora alzati, lascia questo paese e torna al tuo paese natio"».

I the God of Bethel where thou hast anointed a standing pillar, where thou hast vowed a vow to me; now, arise, go out from this land, and turn back unto the land of thy birth.'

14 R achele e Lea risposero e gli dissero: «Abbiamo noi forse ancora una parte e un'eredità in casa di nostro padre?

And Rachel answereth -- Leah also -- and saith to him, `Have we yet a portion and inheritance in the house of our father?

15 N on ci ha egli trattate come straniere, per il fatto che egli ci ha vendute e ha inoltre mangiato il nostro denaro?

have we not been reckoned strangers to him? for he hath sold us, and he also utterly consumeth our money;

16 T utte le ricchezze che DIO ha tolto a nostro padre sono nostre e dei nostri figli or dunque fa' tutto ciò che DIO ti ha detto».

for all the wealth which God hath taken away from our father, it ours, and our children's; and now, all that God hath said unto thee -- do.'

17 A llora Giacobbe si alzò e mise i suoi figli e le sue mogli sui cammelli,

And Jacob riseth, and lifteth up his sons and his wives on the camels,

18 e condusse via tutto il suo bestiame, prendendo con sé tutte le sostanze che aveva acquistato, il bestiame che gli apparteneva e che aveva acquistato in Paddan-Aram, per andare da Isacco suo padre, nel paese di Canaan.

and leadeth all his cattle, and all his substance which he hath acquired, the cattle of his getting, which he hath acquired in Padan-Aram, to go unto Isaac his father, to the land of Canaan.

19 M entre Labano era andato a tosare le sue pecore, Rachele rubò gl'idoli di suo padre.

And Laban hath gone to shear his flock, and Rachel stealeth the teraphim which her father hath;

20 E Giacobbe si allontanò furtivamente da Labano, l'Arameo, senza dirgli che intendeva fuggire.

and Jacob deceiveth the heart of Laban the Aramaean, because he hath not declared to him that he is fleeing;

21 C osì egli fuggì con tutto ciò che aveva; si levò, passò il fiume e si diresse verso il monte di Galaad.

and he fleeth, he and all that he hath, and riseth, and passeth over the River, and setteth his face the mount of Gilead.

22 A l terzo giorno fu riferito a Labano che Giacobbe era fuggito.

And it is told to Laban on the third day that Jacob hath fled,

23 A llora egli prese con sé i suoi fratelli, lo insegui per sette giornate di cammino e lo raggiunse al monte di Galaad.

and he taketh his brethren with him, and pursueth after him a journey of seven days, and overtaketh him in the mount of Gilead.

24 M a DIO venne da Labano, L'Arameo, in un sogno della notte, e gli disse: «Guardati dal parlare a Giacobbe, né in bene né in male».

And God cometh in unto Laban the Aramaean in a dream of the night, and saith to him, `Take heed to thyself lest thou speak with Jacob from good unto evil.'

25 L abano raggiunse dunque Giacobbe. Ora Giacobbe aveva piantato la sua tenda sul monte; e anche Labano e i suoi fratelli avevano piantato le loro sul monte di Galaad.

And Laban overtaketh Jacob; and Jacob hath fixed his tent in the mount; and Laban with his brethren have fixed in the mount of Gilead.

26 A llora Labano disse a Giacobbe: «Che cosa hai fatto ingannandomi in questo modo e conducendo via le mie figlie come prigioniere di guerra?

And Laban saith to Jacob, `What hast thou done that thou dost deceive my heart, and lead away my daughters as captives of the sword?

27 P erché sei fuggito di nascosto e ti sei allontanato da me furtivamente, senza neppure avvertirmi? Io ti avrei accomiatato con gioia e con canti, a suon di tamburello e di cetra.

Why hast thou hidden thyself to flee, and deceivest me, and hast not declared to me, and I send thee away with joy and with songs, with tabret and with harp,

28 E non mi hai permesso di baciare i miei figli e le mie figlie! Tu hai agito stoltamente.

and hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? -- now thou hast acted foolishly in doing;

29 O ra è in mio potere di farvi del male; ma il DIO di tuo padre mi parlò la notte scorsa, dicendo: "Guardati dal parlare a Giacobbe né in bene né in male".

my hand is to God to do evil with you, but the God of your father yesternight hath spoken unto me, saying, Take heed to thyself from speaking with Jacob from good unto evil.

30 C ertamente te ne sei andato, perché desideravi ardentemente di ritornare alla casa di tuo padre; ma perché hai rubato i miei dei?».

`And now, thou hast certainly gone, because thou hast been very desirous for the house of thy father; why hast thou stolen my gods?'

31 A llora Giacobbe rispose a Labano: «Io avevo paura, perché pensavo che tu mi avresti potuto togliere con la Forza le tue figlie.

And Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, `Because I was afraid, for I said, Lest thou take violently away thy daughters from me;

32 M a chiunque sia colui presso il quale troverai i tuoi dei, egli deve morire in presenza dei nostri fratelli; ricerca tu stesso ciò che ti appartiene presso di me e prenditelo!». Giacobbe non sapeva che li aveva rubati Rachele.

with whomsoever thou findest thy gods -- he doth not live; before our brethren discern for thyself what with me, and take to thyself:' and Jacob hath not known that Rachel hath stolen them.

33 L abano dunque entrò nella tenda di Giacobbe, nella tenda di Lea e nella tenda delle due serve, ma non trovò nulla. Uscì poi dalla tenda di Lea ed entrò nella tenda di Rachele.

And Laban goeth into the tent of Jacob, and into the tent of Leah, and into the tent of the two handmaidens, and hath not found; and he goeth out from the tent of Leah, and goeth into the tent of Rachel.

34 O r Rachele aveva preso gl'idoli e li aveva messi nel basto del cammello, poi vi si era seduta sopra. Labano frugò tutta la tenda, ma non trovò nulla.

And Rachel hath taken the teraphim, and putteth them in the furniture of the camel, and sitteth upon them; and Laban feeleth all the tent, and hath not found;

35 E d ella disse a suo padre: «Non si adiri il mio signore, se io non posso alzarmi davanti a te, perché ho i soliti ricorsi delle donne». Così egli cercò ma non trovò gl'idoli.

and she saith unto her father, `Let it not be displeasing in the eyes of my lord that I am not able to rise at thy presence, for the way of women on me;' and he searcheth, and hath not found the teraphim.

36 A llora Giacobbe si adirò e contese con Labano; e Giacobbe rispose e disse a Labano: «Qual è la mia colpa, qual è il mio peccato, perché tu mi abbia inseguito con tanta rabbia?»

And it is displeasing to Jacob, and he striveth with Laban; and Jacob answereth and saith to Laban, `What my transgression? what my sin, that thou hast burned after me?

37 T u hai frugato in tutte le mie cose. Che cosa hai trovato di tutto ciò che appartiene alla tua casa? Mettilo qui davanti ai miei fratelli e ai tuoi fratelli e siano essi a decidere fra noi due!

for thou hast felt all my vessels: what hast thou found of all the vessels of thy house? set here before my brethren, and thy brethren, and they decide between us both.

38 S ono stato con te vent'anni; le tue pecore e le tue capre non hanno abortito e io non ho mangiato i montoni del tuo gregge.

`These twenty years I with thee: thy ewes and thy she-goats have not miscarried, and the rams of thy flock I have not eaten;

39 I o non ti ho mai portato gli animali lacerati dalle fiere; ne ho subita la perdita io stesso; tu reclamavi da me ciò che era stato rubato di giorno o rubato di notte.

the torn I have not brought in unto thee -- I, I repay it -- from my hand thou dost seek it; I have been deceived by day, and I have been deceived by night;

40 Q uesta era la mia sorte: di giorno mi consumava il caldo e il freddo intenso di notte, e il sonno fuggiva dai miei occhi.

I have been: in the day consumed me hath drought, and frost by night, and wander doth my sleep from mine eyes.

41 S ono stato vent'anni in casa tua; ti ho servito quattordici anni per le tue due figlie e sei anni per il tuo gregge, tu hai mutato il mio salario dieci volte.

`This to me twenty years in thy house: I have served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy flock; and thou changest my hire ten times;

42 S e il DIO di mio padre, il DIO di Abrahamo e il Terrore di Isacco non fosse stato a mio favore tu mi avresti certamente rimandato via a mani vuote DIO ha veduto la mia afflizione e la fatica delle mie mani e la notte scorsa ha pronunziato la sua sentenza».

unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the Fear of Isaac, had been for me, surely now empty thou hadst sent me away; mine affliction and the labour of my hands hath God seen, and reproveth yesternight.'

43 A llora Labano rispose e disse: «Queste figlie sono mie figlie, questi figli sono miei figli, queste greggi sono mie greggi, e tutto quel che vedi è mio. Ma che posso io fare oggi a queste mie figlie o ai loro figli che esse hanno partorito?

And Laban answereth and saith unto Jacob, `The daughters my daughters, and the sons my sons, and the flock my flock, and all that thou art seeing mine; and to my daughters -- what do I to these to-day, or to their sons whom they have born?

44 O r dunque vieni, facciamo un patto fra me e te, e serva esso di testimonianza fra me e te».

and now, come, let us make a covenant, I and thou, and it hath been for a witness between me and thee.'

45 A llora Giacobbe prese una pietra e la eresse come una stele.

And Jacob taketh a stone, and lifteth it up a standing pillar;

46 P oi Giacobbe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Raccogliete delle pietre». Ed essi presero delle pietre e ne fecero un mucchio, e presso il mucchio mangiarono.

and Jacob saith to his brethren, `Gather stones,' and they take stones, and make a heap; and they eat there on the heap;

47 L abano chiamò quel mucchio Jegar-Sahadutha, mentre Giacobbe lo chiamò Galed.

and Laban calleth it Jegar-Sahadutha; and Jacob hath called it Galeed.

48 E Labano disse: «Oggi questo mucchio è una testimonianza fra me e te». Perciò fu chiamato Galed,

And Laban saith, `This heap witness between me and thee to-day;' therefore hath he called its name Galeed;

49 e anche Mitspah, perché Labano disse: «L'Eterno tenga l'occhio su me e su te quando saremo nell'impossibilità di vederci l'un l'altro.

Mizpah also, for he said, `Jehovah doth watch between me and thee, for we are hidden one from another;

50 S e tu maltratti le mie figlie o se prendi altre mogli oltre le mie figlie, anche se non c'è alcun uomo con noi, ricordati che DIO è testimone fra me e te».

if thou afflict my daughters, or take wives beside my daughters -- there is no man with us -- see, God witness between me and thee.'

51 L abano disse ancora a Giacobbe: «Ecco questo mucchio di pietre, ed ecco la stele che io ho eretto fra me e te.

And Laban saith to Jacob, `Lo, this heap, and lo, the standing pillar which I have cast between me and thee;

52 S ia questo mucchio un testimone e sia questa stele un testimone che io non oltrepasserò questo mucchio per venire a far del male a te, e che tu non oltrepasserai questo mucchio e questa stele per far del male a me.

this heap witness, and the standing pillar witness, that I do not pass over this heap unto thee, and that thou dost not pass over this heap and this standing pillar unto me -- for evil;

53 I l DIO di Abrahamo e il DIO di Nahor, il DIO del loro padre, sia giudice fra noi!». E Giacobbe giurò per il Terrore di Isacco suo padre.

the God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, doth judge between us -- the God of their father,' and Jacob sweareth by the Fear of his father Isaac.

54 P oi Giacobbe offrì un sacrificio sul monte e invitò i suoi fratelli a mangiare del pane. Ed essi mangiarono del pane e passarono la notte sul monte.

And Jacob sacrificeth a sacrifice in the mount, and calleth to his brethren to eat bread, and they eat bread, and lodge in the mount;

55 L abano si alzò al mattino presto, baciò i suoi figli e le sue figlie e li benedisse. Poi Labano partì e tornò a casa sua.

and Laban riseth early in the morning, and kisseth his sons and his daughters, and blesseth them; and Laban goeth on, and turneth back to his place.
