1 A llora Eliseo disse: «Ascoltate la parola dell'Eterno! Cosí dice l'Eterno: "Domani, a quest'ora, alla porta di Samaria una misura di fior di farina costerà un siclo e due misure di orzo costeranno pure un siclo"».

And Elisha saith, `Hear ye a word of Jehovah: thus said Jehovah, About this time to-morrow, a measure of fine flour at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.'

2 M a il capitano, sul cui braccio il re si appoggiava, rispose all'uomo di DIO: «Ecco, anche se l'Eterno facesse delle finestre in cielo, avverrà mai una cosa del genere?». Eliseo rispose: «Ebbene, lo vedrai con i tuoi, stessi occhi, ma non ne mangerai».

And the captain whom the king hath, by whose hand he hath been supported, answereth the man of God and saith, `Lo, Jehovah is making windows in the heavens -- shall this thing be?' and he saith, `Lo, thou art seeing it with thine eyes, and thereof thou dost not eat.'

3 O r c'erano quattro lebbrosi all'ingresso della porta, i quali dissero tra di loro «Perché stiamo seduti qui aspettando di morire?

And four men have been leprous, at the opening of the gate, and they say one unto another, `What -- we are sitting here till we have died;

4 S e diciamo: "Entriamo in città", in città c'è la fame e vi moriremo; se restiamo qui, moriremo ugualmente. Or dunque venite, andiamo a presentarci nell'accampamento dei Siri; se ci lasceranno vivere, vivremo; se ci daranno la morte, moriremo».

if we have said, We go in to the city, then the famine in the city, and we have died there; and if we have sat here, then we have died; and now, come and we fall unto the camp of Aram; if they keep us alive, we live, and if they put us to death -- we have died.'

5 A l crepuscolo si alzarono per andare all'accampamento dei Siri; come giunsero all'estremità dell'accampamento dei Siri ecco che non c'era nessuno.

And they rise in the twilight, to go in unto the camp of Aram, and they come in unto the extremity of the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not a man there,

6 I l Signore infatti aveva fatto udire all'esercito dei Siri un rumore di carri e un rumore di cavalli, il rumore di un grande esercito, ed essi si erano detti l'un l'altro: «Ecco, il re d'Israele ha assoldato contro di noi i re degli Hittei e i re degli Egiziani per assalirci».

seeing Jehovah hath caused the camp of Aram to hear a noise of chariot and a noise of horse -- a noise of great force, and they say one unto another, `Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Egypt, to come against us.'

7 P erciò essi, al crepuscolo, si erano levati ed erano fuggiti abbandonando le loro tende, i loro cavalli e i loro asini, l'intero accampamento cosí com'era erano cosí fuggiti per salvare la loro vita.

And they rise and flee in the twilight, and forsake their tents, and their horses, and their asses -- the camp as it -- and flee for their life.

8 G iunti all'estremità dell'accampamento, quei lebbrosi entrarono in una tenda, e mangiarono e bevvero; poi portarono via argento, oro e vesti e andarono a nasconderli. Quindi ritornarono e entrarono in un'altra tenda; anche di là portarono via varie cose e andarono a nasconderle.

And these lepers come in unto the extremity of the camp, and come in unto one tent, and eat, and drink, and lift up thence silver, and gold, and garments, and go and hide; and they turn back and go in unto another tent, and lift up thence, and go and hide.

9 M a poi dissero fra di loro: «Non facciamo bene cosí; questo è un giorno di buone novelle, ma noi ce ne stiamo zitti. Se aspettiamo fino alla luce del mattino ci potrebbe venire addosso un castigo. Perciò ora sbrighiamoci e andiamo ad informare la casa del re».

And they say one unto another, `We are not doing right this day; a day of tidings it, and we are keeping silent; and -- we have waited till the light of the morning, then hath punishment found us; and now, come and we go in and declare to the house of the king.'

10 C osí andarono e chiamarono i guardiani della città, e li informarono della cosa, dicendo: «Siamo andati all'accampamento dei Siri, ed ecco non c'era nessuno né si sentiva voce d'uomo; ma c'erano soltanto i cavalli e gli asini legati e le tende intatte».

And they come in, and call unto the gatekeeper of the city, and declare for themselves, saying, `We have come in unto the camp of Aram, and lo, there is not there a man, or sound of man, but the bound horse, and the bound ass, and tents as they.'

11 A llora i guardiani chiamarono e fecero giungere la notizia all'interno della casa del re.

and he calleth the gatekeepers, and they declare to the house of the king within.

12 C osí il re si levò di notte e disse ai suoi servi: «Vi dirò io quel che ci hanno fatto i Siri. Sapendo che noi siamo affamati sono usciti dall'accampamento per nascondersi nella campagna, dicendo: "Come usciranno dalla città, li prenderemo vivi e poi entreremo nella città"»

And the king riseth by night, and saith unto his servants, `Let me declare, I pray you, to you that which the Aramaeans have done to us; they have known that we are famished, and they are gone out from the camp to be hidden in the field, saying, When they come out from the city, then we catch them alive, and unto the city we enter.'

13 U no dei suoi servi gli rispose: «Ti prego, lascia che alcuni uomini prendano cinque dei cavalli che ancora rimangono in città. Ecco, essi saranno al massimo come tutta la moltitudine d'Israele che è rimasta in città, oppure saranno come la moltitudine d'Israele che è già perita, e mandiamoli a vedere».

And one of his servants answereth and saith, `Then let them take, I pray thee, five of the horses that are left, that have been left in it -- lo, they as all the multitude of Israel who have been left in it; lo, they are as all the multitude of Israel who have been consumed -- and we send and see.'

14 P resero dunque due carri con i loro cavalli e il re li mandò in traccia dell'esercito dei Siri, dicendo: «Andate e vedete».

And they take two chariot-horses, and the king sendeth after the camp of Aram, saying, `Go, and see.'

15 C osí essi andarono dietro a loro fino al Giordano; ed ecco, tutta la strada era cosparsa di vesti e di armi che i Siri avevano gettato via nella loro fuga precipitosa. I messaggeri quindi tornarono e riferirono la cosa al re.

And they go after them unto the Jordan, and lo, all the way is full of garments and vessels that the Aramaeans have cast away in their haste, and the messengers turn back and declare to the king.

16 A llora il popolo uscí fuori e saccheggiò l'accampamento dei Siri; una misura di fior di farina costava un siclo, e due misure d'orzo costavano pure un siclo, secondo la parola dell'Eterno.

And the people go out and spoil the camp of Aram, and there is a measure of fine flour at a shekel, and two measures of barley at a shekel, according to the word of Jehovah.

17 I l re aveva messo a guardia della porta il capitano al cui braccio egli si appoggiava; ma il popolo lo calpestò presso la porta, ed egli morí, come aveva detto l'uomo di Dio, quando parlò al re che era sceso a trovarlo.

And the king hath appointed the captain, by whose hand he is supported, over the gate, and the people tread him down in the gate, and he dieth, as the man of God spake, which he spake in the coming down of the king unto him,

18 C osí avvenne come aveva parlato l'uomo di DIO al re, dicendo: «Domani a quest'ora, alla porta di Samaria due misure di orzo costeranno un siclo e una misura di fior di farina costerà pure un siclo».

yea, it cometh to pass, according to the speaking of the man of God unto the king, saying, `Two measures of barley at a shekel, and a measure of fine flour at a shekel are, at this time to-morrow, in the gate of Samaria;'

19 l l capitano aveva quindi risposto all'uomo di DIO e gli aveva detto: «Ecco, anche se l'Eterno facesse delle finestre in cielo, avverrà mai una cosa del genere?». Eliseo gli aveva allora risposto: «Ebbene, lo vedrai con i tuoi stessi occhi, ma non ne mangerai».

and the captain answereth the man of God, and saith, `And lo, Jehovah is making windows in the heavens -- it is according to this word?' and he saith, `Lo, thou art seeing with thine eyes, and thereof thou dost not eat;'

20 G li capitò proprio questo: il popolo lo calpestò presso la porta ed egli morí.

and it cometh to him so, and the people tread him down in the gate, and he dieth.
