1 Q uando tutto il popolo ebbe finito di attraversare il Giordano, l'Eterno parlò a Giosuè, dicendo:

And it cometh to pass, when all the nation hath completed to pass over the Jordan, that Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

2 « Prendete tra il popolo dodici uomini, uno per ogni tribú,

`Take for you out of the people twelve men, one man -- one man out of a tribe;

3 e date loro quest'ordine, dicendo: "Prendete dodici pietre da qui, di mezzo al Giordano, esattamente dal luogo dove i piedi dei sacerdoti si erano fermati; portatele con voi di là dal fiume e deponetele nel luogo dove accamperete questa notte".

and command ye them, saying, Take up for you from this, from the midst of the Jordan, from the established standing-place of the feet of the priests, twelve stones, and ye have removed them over with you, and placed them in the lodging-place in which ye lodge to-night.'

4 A llora Giosuè chiamò i dodici uomini che aveva designato tra i figli d'Israele, un uomo per ogni tribú,

And Joshua calleth unto the twelve men whom he prepared out of the sons of Israel, one man -- one man out of a tribe;

5 e Giosuè disse loro: «Passate davanti all'arca dell'Eterno, il vostro DIO, in mezzo al Giordano, e ciascuno di voi prenda sulle spalle una pietra, secondo il numero delle tribú dei figli d'Israele,

and Joshua saith to them, `Pass over before the ark of Jehovah your God unto the midst of the Jordan and lift up for you each, one stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,

6 a ffinché questo sia un segno in mezzo a voi. Quando in futuro i vostri figli vi domanderanno, dicendo: "Che cosa sono per voi queste pietre?",

so that this is a sign in your midst, when your children ask hereafter, saying, What these stones to you?

7 v oi risponderete loro: "Le acque del Giordano furono divise davanti all'arca del patto dell'Eterno; quando essa passò il Giordano, le acque del Giordano furono divise, e queste pietre saranno per i figli d'Israele un ricordo per sempre".

that ye have said to them, Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off, at the presence of the ark of the covenant of Jehovah; in its passing over into the Jordan were the waters of the Jordan cut off; and these stones have been for a memorial to the sons of Israel -- to the age.'

8 I figli d'Israele fecero esattamente come Giosuè aveva comandato: presero dodici pietre di mezzo al Giordano, come l'Eterno aveva detto a Giosuè, in base al numero delle tribú dei figli d'Israele, e le portarono con loro di là dal fiume nel posto dove dovevano passare la notte, e le deposero là.

And the sons of Israel do so as Joshua commanded, and take up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as Jehovah hath spoken unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, and remove them over with them unto the lodging-place, and place them there,

9 G iosuè eresse pure dodici pietre in mezzo al Giordano, nel luogo dove si erano fermati i piedi dei sacerdoti che portavano l'arca del patto; e sono rimaste là fino al giorno d'oggi.

even the twelve stones hath Joshua raised up out of the midst of the Jordan, the place of the standing of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant, and they are there unto this day.

10 I sacerdoti che portavano l'arca rimasero fermi in mezzo al Giordano finché fu eseguito tutto ciò che l'Eterno aveva comandato a Giosuè di dire al popolo, in base a tutto ciò che Mosè aveva comandato a Giosuè. E il popolo si affrettò a passare.

And the priests bearing the ark are standing in the midst of the Jordan till the completion of the whole thing which Jehovah commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua, and the people haste and pass over.

11 Q uando tutto il popolo ebbe finito di passare, l'arca dell'Eterno e i sacerdoti passarono in presenza del popolo.

And it cometh to pass when all the people have completed to pass over, that the ark of Jehovah passeth over, and the priests, in the presence of the people;

12 I figli di Ruben, i figli di Gad e mezza tribú di Manasse passarono armati in testa ai figli d'Israele, come Mosè aveva loro detto.

and the sons of Reuben, and the sons of Gad, and the half of the tribe of Manasseh, pass over, by fifties, before the sons of Israel, as Moses had spoken unto them;

13 C irca quarantamila uomini in assetto di guerra passarono davanti all'Eterno nelle pianure di Gerico, pronti a combattere.

about forty thousand, armed ones of the host, passed over before Jehovah for battle, unto the plains of Jericho.

14 I n quel giorno, l'Eterno rese grande Giosué agli occhi di tutto Israele; ed essi lo temettero come avevano temuto Mosè tutti i giorni della sua vita.

On that day hath Jehovah made Joshua great in the eyes of all Israel, and they reverence him, as they reverenced Moses, all days of his life.

15 P oi l'Eterno parlò a Giosuè e gli disse:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

16 C omanda ai sacerdoti che portano l'arca della Testimonianza di uscire dal Giordano.

`Command the priests bearing the ark of the testimony, and they come up out of the Jordan.'

17 A llora Giosuè comandò ai sacerdoti dicendo: Uscite dal Giordano.

And Joshua commandeth the priests, saying, `Come ye up out of the Jordan.'

18 E avvenne che, come i sacerdoti che portavano l'arca del patto dell'Eterno furono usciti di mezzo al Giordano e le piante dei loro piedi si posarono sulla terra asciutta, le acque del Giordano tornarono al loro posto e fluirono come prima all'altezza delle sue sponde.

And it cometh to pass, in the coming up of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of Jehovah out of the midst of the Jordan -- the soles of the feet of the priests have been drawn up into the dry ground -- and the waters of the Jordan turn back to their place, and go as heretofore over all its banks.

19 I l popolo uscì dal Giordano il decimo giorno del primo mese e si accampó a Ghilgal, all'estremità orientale di Gerico.

And the people have come up out of the Jordan on the tenth of the first month, and encamp in Gilgal, in the extremity east of Jericho;

20 Q uelle dodici pietre che avevano prese dal Giordano, Giosuè le eresse in Ghilgal.

and these twelve stones, which they have taken out of the Jordan, hath Joshua raised up in Gilgal.

21 P oi parlò ai figli d'Israele e disse loro: «Quando in futuro i vostri figli domanderanno ai loro padri dicendo: "Che cosa sono queste pietre"

And he speaketh unto the sons of Israel, saying, `When your sons ask their fathers hereafter, saying, What these stones?

22 v oi farete sapere ai vostri figli, dicendo: "Israele ha attraversato questo Giordano all'asciutto,

then ye have caused your sons to know, saying, On dry land Israel passed over this Jordan;

23 p erché l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, prosciugò le acque del Giordano davanti a voi finché foste passati come l'Eterno, il vostro Dio, fece al Mar Rosso, che prosciugò davanti a noi finché fummo passati,

because Jehovah your God dried up the waters of the Jordan at your presence, till your passing over, as Jehovah your God did to the Red Sea which He dried up at our presence till our passing over;

24 p erché tutti i popoli della terra riconoscano che la mano dell'Eterno è potente, e voi temiate sempre l'Eterno il vostro DIO"».

so that all the people of the land do know the hand of Jehovah that it strong, so that ye have reverenced Jehovah your God all the days.'
