1 O ra l'Eterno disse ad Abramo: «Vattene dal tuo paese, dal tuo parentado e dalla casa di tuo padre, nel paese che io ti mostrerò.

And Jehovah saith unto Abram, `Go for thyself, from thy land, and from thy kindred, and from the house of thy father, unto the land which I shew thee.

2 I o farò di te una grande nazione e ti benedirò e renderò grande il tuo nome e tu sarai una benedizione.

And I make thee become a great nation, and bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing.

3 E benedirò quelli che ti benediranno e maledirò chi ti maledirà; e in te saranno benedette tutte le famiglie della terra.

And I bless those blessing thee, and him who is disesteeming thee I curse, and blessed in thee have been all families of the ground.'

4 A llora Abramo partì come l'Eterno gli aveva detto, e Lot andò con lui. Abramo aveva settantacinque anni quando partì da Haran.

And Abram goeth on, as Jehovah hath spoken unto him, and Lot goeth with him, and Abram a son of five and seventy years in his going out from Charan.

5 E Abramo prese Sarai sua moglie e Lot, figlio di suo fratello, e tutti i beni che avevano accumulato e le persone che avevano acquistate in Haran, e partirono per andarsene nel paese di Canaan. Così essi giunsero nel paese di Canaan.

And Abram taketh Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they have gained, and the persons that they have obtained in Charan; and they go out to go towards the land of Canaan; and they come in to the land of Canaan.

6 A bramo attraversò il paese fino alla località di Sichem, fino alla quercia di Moreh. A quel tempo si trovavano nel paese i Cananei.

And Abram passeth over into the land, unto the place Shechem, unto the oak of Moreh; and the Canaanite then in the land.

7 A llora l'Eterno apparve ad Abramo e disse: «Io darò questo paese alla tua discendenza». Allora Abramo vi costruì un altare all'Eterno che gli era apparso.

And Jehovah appeareth unto Abram, and saith, `To thy seed I give this land;' and he buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, who hath appeared unto him.

8 D i là si spostò verso la montagna a est di Bethel, e piantò le sue tende, avendo Bethel a ovest e Ai a est; e là costruì un altare all'Eterno e invocò il nome dell'Eterno.

And he removeth from thence towards a mountain at the east of Beth-El, and stretcheth out the tent (Beth-El at the west, and Hai at the east), and he buildeth there an altar to Jehovah, and preacheth in the name of Jehovah.

9 P oi Abramo si mise in viaggio, continuando a spostarsi verso Neghev. Abramo in Egitto

And Abram journeyeth, going on and journeying towards the south.

10 O ra venne nel paese una carestia e Abramo scese in Egitto per dimorarvi, perché nel paese vi era una grande carestia.

And there is a famine in the land, and Abram goeth down towards Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine grievous in the land;

11 O ra avvenne che, come stava per entrare in Egitto, disse a Sarai sua moglie: «Ecco, io so che tu sei una donna di bell'aspetto;

and it cometh to pass as he hath drawn near to enter Egypt, that he saith unto Sarai his wife, `Lo, I pray thee, I have known that thou a woman of beautiful appearance;

12 c osì avverrà che, quando gli Egiziani ti vedranno, diranno: "Costei è sua moglie"; e uccideranno me, ma lasceranno te in vita.

and it hath come to pass that the Egyptians see thee, and they have said, `This his wife,' and they have slain me, and thee they keep alive:

13 T i prego, dì che sei mia sorella, perché io sia trattato bene a motivo di te, e la mia vita sia salva per amor tuo».

say, I pray thee, thou my sister, so that it is well with me because of thee, and my soul hath lived for thy sake.'

14 Q uando infatti Abramo giunse in Egitto, gli Egiziani videro che la donna era molto bella.

And it cometh to pass, at the entering of Abram into Egypt, that the Egyptians see the woman that she exceeding fair;

15 L a videro anche gli ufficiali del Faraone e la lodarono davanti al Faraone e la donna fu portata in casa del Faraone.

and princes of Pharaoh see her, and praise her unto Pharaoh, and the woman is taken Pharaoh's house;

16 E d egli trattò bene Abramo a motivo di lei. Così Abramo ebbe pecore, buoi, asini, servi, serve, asine e cammelli.

and to Abram he hath done good because of her, and he hath sheep and oxen, and he-asses, and men-servants, and handmaids, and she-asses, and camels.

17 M a l'Eterno colpì Faraone e la sua casa con grandi calamità, a motivo di Sarai, moglie di Abramo.

And Jehovah plagueth Pharaoh and his house -- great plagues -- for the matter of Sarai, Abram's wife.

18 A llora il Faraone chiamò Abramo e disse: «Che cosa mi hai fatto? Perché non mi hai detto che era tua moglie? Perché hai detto:

And Pharaoh calleth for Abram, and saith, `What this thou hast done to me? why hast thou not declared to me that she thy wife?

19 " E' mia sorella"? Così io la presi per essere mia moglie. Ora dunque eccoti tua moglie; prendila e vattene!».

Why hast thou said, She my sister, and I take her to myself for a wife? and now, lo, thy wife, take and go.'

20 P oi il Faraone diede alla sua gente ordini riguardo ad Abramo, ed essi fecero partire lui, sua moglie e tutto quello che aveva.

And Pharaoh chargeth men concerning him, and they send him away, and his wife, an all that he hath.
