1 P oi uno dei sette angeli che avevano le sette coppe venne e mi disse: «Vieni, io ti mostrerò il giudizio della grande meretrice, che siede sopra molte acque,

And there came one of the seven messengers, who were having the seven vials, and he spake with me, saying to me, `Come, I will shew to thee the judgment of the great whore, who is sitting upon the many waters,

2 c on la quale hanno fornicato i re della terra, e gli abitanti della terra sono stati inebriati col vino della sua fornicazione».

with whom the kings of the earth did commit whoredom; and made drunk from the wine of her whoredom were those inhabiting the earth;'

3 Q uindi egli mi trasportò in spirito in un deserto, e vidi una donna che sedeva sopra una bestia di colore scarlatto, piena di nomi di bestemmia e che aveva sette teste e dieci corna.

and he carried me away to a wilderness in the Spirit, and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-coloured beast, full of names of evil-speaking, having seven heads and ten horns,

4 L a donna era vestita di porpora e di scarlatto, era tutta adorna d'oro, di pietre preziose e di perle, e aveva in mano una coppa d'oro piena di abominazioni e delle immondezze della sua fornicazione.

and the woman was arrayed with purple and scarlet-colour, and gilded with gold, and precious stone, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and uncleanness of her whoredom,

5 S ulla sua fronte era scritto un nome: «Mistero, Babilonia la grande, la madre delle meretrici e delle abominazioni della terra».

and upon her forehead was a name written: `Secret, Babylon the Great, the Mother of the Whores, and the Abominations of the earth.'

6 E vidi la donna ebbra del sangue dei santi e del sangue dei martiri di Gesú. E, quando la vidi, mi meravigliai di grande meraviglia.

And I saw the woman drunken from the blood of the saints, and from the blood of the witnesses of Jesus, and I did wonder -- having seen her -- with great wonder;

7 M a l'angelo mi disse: «Perché ti meravigli? Io ti dirò il mistero della donna e della bestia che la porta, che ha sette teste e dieci corna.

and the messenger said to me, `Wherefore didst thou wonder? I -- I will tell thee the secret of the woman and of the beast that carrying her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns.

8 L a bestia che tu hai visto era e non è piú e salirà dall'abisso e andrà in perdizione; e gli abitanti della terra, i cui nomi non sono scritti nel libro della vita fin dalla fondazione del mondo, si meraviglieranno vedendo la bestia che era, e non è, quantunque essa sia.

`The beast that thou didst see: it was, and it is not; and it is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go away to destruction, and wonder shall those dwelling upon the earth, whose names have not been written upon the scroll of the life from the foundation of the world, beholding the beast that was, and is not, although it is.

9 Q ui sta la mente che ha sapienza: le sette teste sono sette monti, sui quali la donna siede,

`Here the mind that is having wisdom; the seven heads are seven mountains, upon which the woman doth sit,

10 e sono anche sette re; cinque sono caduti, uno è, l'altro non è ancora venuto; e, quando verrà, dovrà durare poco.

and there are seven kings, the five did fall, and the one is, the other did not yet come, and when he may come, it behoveth him to remain a little time;

11 E la bestia che era e non è piú, è anch'essa un ottavo re, viene dai sette e se ne va in perdizione.

and the beast that was, and is not, he also is eighth, and out of the seven he is, and to destruction he doth go away.

12 L e dieci corna, che hai visto, sono dieci re i quali non hanno ancora ricevuto il regno, ma riceveranno potestà come re, per un'ora, insieme alla bestia.

`And the ten horns that thou sawest, are ten kings, who a kingdom did not yet receive, but authority as kings the same hour do receive with the beast,

13 E ssi hanno un unico scopo e daranno la loro potenza ed autorità alla bestia.

these have one mind, and their own power and authority to the beast they shall give over;

14 E ssi combatteranno contro l'Agnello e l'Agnello li vincerà, perché egli è il Signore dei signori e il Re dei re; e coloro che sono con lui sono chiamati, eletti e fedeli».

these with the Lamb shall make war, and the Lamb shall overcome them, because Lord of lords he is, and King of kings, and those with him are called, and choice, and stedfast.'

15 P oi mi disse: «Le acque che hai visto, dove siede la meretrice, sono popoli, moltitudini, nazioni e lingue.

And he saith to me, `The waters that thou didst see, where the whore doth sit, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues;'

16 E le dieci corna che hai visto sulla bestia odieranno la meretrice, la renderanno desolata e la lasceranno nuda, mangeranno le sue carni e la bruceranno col fuoco.

and the ten horns that thou didst see upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her in fire,

17 D io infatti ha messo nei loro cuori di eseguire il suo disegno, di avere un unico pensiero e di dare il loro regno alla bestia finché siano adempiute le parole di Dio.

for God did give into their hearts to do its mind, and to make one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast till the sayings of God may be complete,

18 E la donna che hai visto è la grande città che regna sui re della terra».

and the woman that thou didst see is the great city that is having reign over the kings of the land.'
