1 A l suo posto regnò suo figlio Giosafat, che si fortificò contro Israele.

And Jehoshaphat his son reigneth in his stead, and he strengtheneth himself against Israel,

2 E gli collocò truppe in tutte le città fortificate di Giuda e pose guarnigioni nel paese di Giuda e nelle città di Efraim, che suo padre Asa aveva conquistato.

and putteth a force in all the fenced cities of Judah, and putteth garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.

3 L 'Eterno fu con Giosafat, perché egli camminò nelle primiere vie di Davide, suo padre. Egli non cercò i Baal,

And Jehovah is with Jehoshaphat, for he hath walked in the first ways of David his father, and hath not sought to Baalim,

4 m a cercò il DIO di suo padre e camminò nei suoi comandamenti e non secondo il modo di agire d'Israele.

for to the God of his father he hath sought, and in His commands he hath walked, and not according to the work of Israel.

5 P erciò l'Eterno consolidò il regno nelle sue mani. Tutto Giuda recava a Giosafat doni, ed egli ebbe ricchezza e gloria in abbondanza.

And Jehovah doth establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah give a present to Jehoshaphat, and he hath riches and honour in abundance,

6 I l suo cuore si rafforzò nelle vie dell'Eterno e rimosse nuovamente gli alti luoghi e gli Ascerim da Giuda.

and his heart is high in the ways of Jehovah, and again he hath turned aside the high places and the shrines out of Judah.

7 I l terzo anno del suo regno mandò i suoi capi Ben-Hail Obadiah, Zaccaria, Nethaneel e Mikaiah a insegnare nelle città di Giuda;

And in the third year of his reign he hath sent for his heads, for Ben-Hail, and for Obadiah, and for Zechariah, and for Nethaneel, and for Michaiah, to teach in cities of Judah,

8 e con essi mandò i Leviti, Scemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel Scemiramoth, Gionathan, Adonijah, Tobijah e Tobadonijah, e con essi anche i sacerdoti Elishama e Jehoram.

and with them the Levites, Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijath, and Tob-Adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.

9 C osí essi insegnarono in Giuda, avendo con sé il libro della legge dell'Eterno; essi percorsero tutte le città di Giuda, istruendo il popolo.

And they teach in Judah, and with them the Book of the Law of Jehovah, and they go round about into all cities of Judah, and teach among the people.

10 I l terrore a dell'Eterno cadde su tutti i regni dei paesi che erano intorno a Giuda, e cosí essi non mossero guerra a Giosafat.

And here is a fear of Jehovah on all kingdoms of the lands that round about Judah, and they have not fought with Jehoshaphat;

11 A lcuni dei Filistei recarono a Giosafat doni e un tributo in argento; anche gli Arabi gli portarono bestiame minuto: settemilasettecento montoni e settemilasettecento capri.

and of the Philistines they are bringing in to Jehoshaphat a present, and tribute silver; also, the Arabians are bringing to him a flock, rams seven thousand an seven hundred, and he-goats seven thousand and seven hundred.

12 C osí Giosafat divenne sempre piú grande e costruí in Giuda fortezze e città deposito.

And Jehoshaphat is going on and becoming very great, and he buildeth in Judah palaces and cities of store,

13 E seguì molti lavori nelle città di Giuda, e in Gerusalemme teneva guerrieri, uomini forti e valorosi.

and he hath much work in cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty of valour, in Jerusalem.

14 Q uesto è il loro censimento, secondo le loro case paterne. Di Giuda, i capi di migliaia erano Adnah, il capo, e con lui trecentomila uomini forti e valorosi;

And these their numbers, for the house of their fathers: Of Judah, heads of thousands, Adnah the head, and with him mighty ones of valour, three hundred chiefs.

15 d opo di lui, c'era Jehohanan, il capo, e con lui duecentottantamila uomini;

And at his hand Jehohanan the head, and with him two hundred and eighty chiefs.

16 d opo di lui c'era Amasiah, figlio di Zikri, che si era spontaneamente consacrato all'Eterno, e con lui duecentomila uomini forti e valorosi.

And at his hand Amasiah son of Zichri, who is willingly offering himself to Jehovah, and with him two hundred chiefs, mighty of valour.

17 D i Beniamino c'era Eliada, uomo forte e valoroso, e con lui duecentomila uomini armati di arco e di scudo;

And of Benjamin: mighty of valour, Eliada, and with him, armed with bow and shield, two hundred chiefs.

18 d opo di lui c'era Jehozabad, e con lui centottantamila uomini pronti per la guerra.

And at his hand Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty chiefs, armed ones of the host.

19 T utti questi erano al servizio del re, oltre a quelli che il re aveva collocato nelle città fortificate in tutto Giuda.

These those serving the king, apart from those whom the king put in the cities of fortress, in all Judah.
