1 A ll'inizio del regno di Jehoiakim, figlio di Giosia, re di Giuda, questa parola fu rivolta dall'Eterno a Geremia, dicendo:

In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, hath this word been unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

2 « Cosí mi ha detto l'Eterno: Fatti dei legami e dei gioghi e mettili sul tuo collo;

`Thus said Jehovah unto me, Make to thee bands and yokes,

3 p oi mandali al re di Edom, al re di Moab, al re dei figli di Ammon, al re di Tiro e al re di Sidone, per mezzo degli ambasciatori che sono venuti a Gerusalemme da Sedekia, re di Giuda;

And thou hast put them on thy neck, and hast sent them unto the king of Edom, and unto the king of Moab, and unto the king of the sons of Ammon, and unto the king of Tyre, and unto the king of Zidon, by the hand of messengers who are coming in to Jerusalem, unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

4 e comanda loro che dicano ai loro signori: "Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: Cosí direte ai vostri signori:

And thou hast commanded them for their lords, saying, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel,

5 I o ho fatto la terra, gli uomini e gli animali che sono sulla faccia della terra, con la mia grande potenza e col mio braccio steso, e la do a chi sembra bene ai miei occhi.

Thus do ye say unto your lords, I -- I have made the earth with man, and the cattle that on the face of the earth, by My great power, and by My stretched-out arm, and I have given it to whom it hath been right in Mine eyes.

6 E ora ho dato tutti questi paesi in mano di Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia, mio servo; a lui ho pure dato le bestie della campagna perché lo servano.

`And now, I -- I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and also the beast of the field I have given to him to serve him;

7 C osí tutte le nazioni serviranno a lui, a suo figlio e al figlio di suo figlio, finché verrà il tempo anche per il suo paese; allora molte nazioni e re potenti lo ridurranno in servitú

And served him have all the nations, and his son, and his son's son, till the coming in of the time of his land, also it; and done service for him have many nations and great kings.

8 E avverrà che la nazione o il regno che non vorrà servire a lui, a Nebukadnetsar re di Babilonia, e non vorrà porre il suo collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, quella nazione io la punirò, dice l'Eterno, «con la spada, con la fame e con la peste, finché non li abbia sterminati per mano sua.

And it hath come to pass, the nation and the kingdom that do not serve him -- Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon -- and that which putteth not its neck into the yoke of the king of Babylon, with sword, and with famine, and with pestilence, I lay a charge on that nation -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- till I consume them by his hand.

9 P erciò non ascoltate i vostri profeti né i vostri indovini né i vostri sognatori né i vostri maghi né i vostri stregoni che vi dicono: "Non sarete asserviti al re di Babilonia!".

`And ye, ye do not hearken unto your prophets, and unto your diviners, and unto your dreamers, and unto your observers of clouds, and unto your sorcerers who are speaking unto you, saying, Ye do not serve the king of Babylon, --

10 S í, essi vi profetizzano menzogna, per allontanarvi dal vostro paese, perché io vi disperda e voi periate.

For falsehood they are prophesying to you, so as to remove you far from off your ground, and I have driven you out, and ye have perished.

11 M a la nazione che porrà il suo collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia e lo servirà, io la lascerò stare nel suo paese», dice l'Eterno, «ed essa lo coltiverà e vi dimorerà».

And the nation that causeth its neck to enter into the yoke of the king of Babylon, and hath served him -- I have left it on its ground -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and it hath tilled it, and dwelt in it.'

12 I o parlai dunque a Sedekia, re di Giuda, in conformità a tutte queste parole e dissi: «Piegate il vostro collo sotto il giogo del re di Babilonia, servite lui e il suo popolo e vivrete.

And unto Zedekiah king of Judah I have spoken according to all these words, saying, `Cause your necks to enter into the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.

13 P erché tu e il tuo popolo vorreste morire di spada, di fame e di peste, come l'Eterno ha parlato contro la nazione che non vuole servire il re di Babilonia?

Why do ye die, thou and thy people, by sword, by famine, and by pestilence, as Jehovah hath spoken concerning the nation that doth not serve the king of Babylon?

14 P erciò non date ascolto alle parole dei profeti che vi dicono: "Non servirete il re di Babilonia" perché vi profetizzano menzogna».

`And ye do not hearken unto the words of the prophets who are speaking unto you, saying, Ye do not serve the king of Babylon, -- for falsehood they are prophesying to you.

15 « Poiché io non li ho mandati», dice l'Eterno, «ma profetizzano menzogna nel mio nome, perché io vi disperda e voi periate, voi e i profeti che vi profetizzano».

For I have not sent them -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and they are prophesying in My name falsely, so as to drive you out, and ye have perished, ye, and the prophets who are prophesying to you.'

16 P arlai pure ai sacerdoti e a tutto questo popolo, dicendo: «Cosí dice l'Eterno: Non date ascolto alle parole dei vostri profeti che vi profetizzano dicendo: "Ecco, ora gli arredi della casa dell'Eterno saranno presto riportati da Babilonia" perché vi profetizzano menzogna.

And unto the priests, and unto all this people, I have spoken, saying, `Thus said Jehovah, Ye do not hearken unto the words of your prophets, who are prophesying to you, saying, Lo, the vessels of the house of Jehovah are brought back from Babylon now in haste, for falsehood they are prophesying to you.

17 N on date loro ascolto! Servite il re di Babilonia e vivrete. Perché questa città dovrebbe essere ridotta a una desolazione?

Ye do not hearken unto them, serve the king of Babylon, and live. Why is this city a waste?

18 S e sono profeti e se la parola dell'Eterno è con loro, intercedano ora presso l'Eterno degli eserciti, perché gli arredi che sono rimasti nella casa dell'Eterno, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme, non vadano a Babilonia».

`And, if they be prophets, and if a word of Jehovah be with them, let them intercede, I pray you, with Jehovah of Hosts, so that the vessels that are left in the house of Jehovah, and the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, have not gone into Babylon.

19 C osí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti riguardo alle colonne, al mare, ai carrelli e al resto degli arredi rimasti in questa città.

For thus said Jehovah of Hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the rest of the vessels that are left in this city,

20 c he Nebukadnetsar, re di Babilonia, non prese, quando deportò Jekoniah figlio di Jehoiakim, re di Giuda, da Gerusalemme a Babilonia assieme a tutti i nobili di Giuda e di Gerusalemme;

That Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon hath not taken, in his removing Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon with all the freemen of Judah and Jerusalem,

21 s í, cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele, riguardo agli arredi che rimangono nella casa dell'Eterno, nella casa del re di Giuda e in Gerusalemme:

Surely thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left of the house of Jehovah, and of the house of the king of Judah, and Jerusalem:

22 « Saranno portati a Babilonia e la resteranno, finché io li cercherò», dice l'Eterno, «e li farò risalire e li riporterò in questo luogo».

To Babylon they are brought, and there they are till the day of My inspecting them -- an affirmation of Jehovah; then I have brought them up, and have brought them back unto this place.'
