1 S aul parlò a suo figlio Gionathan e a tutti i suoi servi di fare morire Davide. Ma Gionathan, figlio di Saul, nutriva un grande affetto per Davide.

And Saul speaketh unto Jonathan his son, and unto all his servants, to put David to death,

2 C osì Gionathan informò Davide, dicendo: «Saul mio padre, cerca di farti morire; perciò domani mattina fa' attenzione, rimani in un luogo segreto e nasconditi.

and Jonathan son of Saul delighted exceedingly in David, and Jonathan declareth to David, saying, `Saul my father is seeking to put thee to death, and, now, take heed, I pray thee, in the morning, and thou hast abode in a secret place, and been hidden,

3 I o uscirò e starò accanto a mio padre nel campo dove ti trovi tu, e parlerò di te a mio padre. Vedrò che cosa succede e te lo farò sapere».

and I -- I go out, and have stood by the side of my father in the field where thou, and I speak of thee unto my father, and have seen what, and have declared to thee.'

4 G ionathan dunque parlò a Saul suo padre in favore di Davide e gli disse: «Non pecchi il re contro il suo servo contro Davide, perché egli non ha peccato contro di te, e perché le sue imprese ti sono state di grande utilità.

And Jonathan speaketh good of David unto Saul his father, and saith unto him, `Let not the king sin against his servant, against David, because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works for thee very good;

5 E gli ha esposto la propria vita al pericolo, quando ha ucciso il Filisteo, e l'Eterno ha operato una grande liberazione per tutto Israele. Tu hai visto e ti sei rallegrato; perché dunque peccheresti contro il sangue innocente, facendo morire Davide senza motivo?».

yea, he putteth his life in his hand, and smiteth the Philistine, and Jehovah worketh a great salvation for all Israel; thou hast seen, and dost rejoice, and why dost thou sin against innocent blood, to put David to death for nought?'

6 S aul diede ascolto alla voce di Gionathan e giurò: «Com'è vero che l'Eterno vive, egli non morirà!».

And Saul hearkeneth to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul sweareth, `Jehovah liveth -- he doth not die.'

7 A llora Gionathan chiamò Davide e gli riferì tutte queste cose. Poi Gionathan ricondusse Davide da Saul, ed egli rimase al suo servizio come prima.

And Jonathan calleth for David, and Jonathan declareth to him all these words, and Jonathan bringeth in David unto Saul, and he is before him as heretofore.

8 C ominciò di nuovo la guerra; così Davide uscì a combattere contro i Filistei e inflisse loro una grave sconfitta, ed essi si diedero alla fuga davanti a lui.

And there addeth to be war, and David goeth out and fighteth against the Philistines, and smiteth among them -- a great smiting, and they flee from his face.

9 M a un cattivo spirito da parte dell'Eterno, s'impossessò di Saul mentre stava in casa sua con la sua lancia in mano, e Davide stava suonando l'arpa con la mano.

And a spirit of sadness Jehovah is unto Saul, and he is sitting in his house, and his javelin in his hand, and David is playing with the hand,

10 S aul cercò d'inchiodare Davide al muro con la lancia, ma Davide fuggì davanti a Saul, ed egli conficcò la lancia nel muro. Davide fuggì e si mise in salvo quella stessa notte.

and Saul seeketh to smite with the javelin through David, and through the wall, and he freeth himself from the presence of Saul, and he smiteth the javelin through the wall; and David hath fled and escapeth during that night.

11 S aul allora inviò messaggeri a casa di Davide per sorvegliarlo e ucciderlo il mattino dopo; ma Mikal, moglie di Davide, lo avvertì della cosa, dicendo: «Se non ti metti in salvo questa notte, domani sarai morto».

And Saul sendeth messengers unto the house of David to watch him, and to put him to death in the morning; and Michal his wife declareth to David, saying, `If thou art not delivering thy life to-night -- tomorrow thou art put to death.'

12 C osì Mikal calò Davide dalla finestra; ed egli se ne andò, fuggì e si mise in salvo.

And Michal causeth David to go down through the window, and he goeth on, and fleeth, and escapeth;

13 P oi Mikal prese l'idolo di casa e lo pose nel letto; al posto del capo mise una coltre di pelo di capra e la coperse con un panno.

and Michal taketh the teraphim, and layeth on the bed, and the mattress of goats' she hath put his pillows, and covereth with a garment.

14 Q uando Saul inviò i messaggeri a prendere Davide, ella disse: «E' malato».

And Saul sendeth messengers to take David, and she saith, `He sick.'

15 A llora Saul inviò di nuovo i messaggeri a vedere Davide e disse loro: «Portatemelo nel letto, perché io lo faccia morire».

And Saul sendeth the messengers to see David, saying, `Bring him up in the bed unto me,' -- to put him to death.

16 Q uando i messaggeri arrivarono, ecco che nel letto c'era l'idolo di casa con una coltre di pelo di capra al posto del capo.

And the messengers come in, and lo, the teraphim on the bed, and the mattress of goats', his pillows.

17 A llora Saul disse a Mikal: «Perché mi hai ingannato in questo modo e hai fatto fuggire il mio nemico, permettendogli di mettersi in salvo?». Mikal rispose a Saul: «Egli mi ha detto: "Lasciami andare, altrimenti ti uccido"».

And Saul saith unto Michal, `Why thus hast thou deceived me -- that thou dost send away mine enemy, and he is escaped?' and Michal saith unto Saul, `He said unto me, Send me away: why do I put thee to death?'

18 D avide dunque fuggì e si mise in salvo; andò da Samuele a Ramah e gli raccontò tutto ciò che Saul gli aveva fatto. Poi lui e Samuele andarono a stare a Naioth.

And David hath fled, and is escaped, and cometh in unto Samuel to Ramath, and declareth to him all that Saul hath done to him, and he goeth, he and Samuel, and they dwell in Naioth.

19 L a cosa fu riferita a Saul: «Ecco, Davide è a Naioth di Ramah».

And it is declared to Saul, saying, `Lo, David in Naioth in Ramah.'

20 A llora Saul inviò messaggeri per prendere Davide; ma quando essi videro l'assemblea dei profeti che profetizzavano, con Samuele che teneva la presidenza, lo Spirito di DIO investì i messaggeri di Saul che si misero anch'essi a profetizzare.

And Saul sendeth messengers to take David, and they see the assembly of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing, set over them, and the Spirit of God is on Saul's messengers, and they prophesy -- they also.

21 R iferirono la cosa a Saul, che inviò altri messaggeri, i quali pure si misero a profetizzare. Saul mandò di nuovo messaggeri per la terza volta, e anche questi si misero a profetizzare.

And they declare to Saul, and he sendeth other messengers, and they prophesy -- they also; and Saul addeth and sendeth messengers a third time, and they prophesy -- they also.

22 A llora si recò egli stesso a Ramah e giunto alla grande cisterna che è a Seku, chiese: «Dove sono Samuele e Davide?». Qualcuno gli rispose: «Ecco, sono a Naioth di Ramah».

And he goeth -- he also -- to Ramath, and cometh in unto the great well which in Sechu, and asketh, and saith, `Where Samuel and David?' and saith, `Lo, in Naioth in Ramah.'

23 C osì egli andò là a Naioth di Ramah ma lo Spirito di DIO investì anche lui ed egli continuò il suo viaggio profetizzando, finché giunse a Naioth di Ramah.

And he goeth thither -- unto Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God is upon him -- him also; and he goeth, going on, and he prophesyeth till his coming in to Naioth in Ramah,

24 A nch'egli si spogliò delle sue vesti, e anch'egli profetizzò davanti a Samuele e rimase sdraiato nudo per terra tutto quel giorno e tutta quella notte. Per questo si dice: «E' anche Saul tra i profeti?».

and he strippeth off -- he also -- his garments, and prophesieth -- he also -- before Samuel, and falleth down naked all that day and all the night; therefore they say, `Is Saul also among the prophets?'
