1 P aolo, apostolo di Gesú Cristo per volontà di Dio, e il fratello Timoteo, alla chiesa di Dio che è in Corinto, insieme a tutti i santi che sono in tutta l'Acaia:

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, through the will of God, and Timotheus the brother, to the assembly of God that is in Corinth, with all the saints who are in all Achaia:

2 g razia e pace a voi da Dio nostro Padre e dal Signore Gesú Cristo.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ!

3 B enedetto sia Dio e Padre del nostro Signore Gesú Cristo, il Padre delle misericordie e il Dio di ogni consolazione,

Blessed God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of the mercies, and God of all comfort,

4 i l quale ci consola in ogni nostra afflizione affinché, per mezzo della consolazione con cui noi stessi siamo da Dio consolati, possiamo consolare coloro che si trovano in qualsiasi afflizione.

who is comforting us in all our tribulation, for our being able to comfort those in any tribulation through the comfort with which we are comforted ourselves by God;

5 P oiché, come abbondano in noi le sofferenze di Cristo, cosí per mezzo di Cristo abbonda pure la nostra consolazione.

because, as the sufferings of the Christ do abound to us, so through the Christ doth abound also our comfort;

6 O ra se siamo afflitti, ciò è per la vostra consolazione e salvezza, se siamo consolati, ciò è per la vostra consolazione e salvezza, che operano efficacemente nel sostenere le medesime sofferenze che patiamo anche noi.

and whether we be in tribulation, for your comfort and salvation, that is wrought in the enduring of the same sufferings that we also suffer; whether we are comforted, for your comfort and salvation;

7 L a nostra speranza a vostro riguardo è salda, sapendo che, come siete partecipi delle sofferenze, cosí sarete anche partecipi della consolazione.

and our hope stedfast for you, knowing that even as ye are partakers of the sufferings -- so also of the comfort.

8 P erché non vogliamo, fratelli, che ignoriate la nostra afflizione che ci capitò in Asia, come siamo stati eccessivamente gravati al di là delle nostre forze, tanto da giungere a disperare della vita stessa.

For we do not wish you to be ignorant, brethren, of our tribulation that happened to us in Asia, that we were exceedingly burdened above power, so that we despaired even of life;

9 A nzi avevamo già in noi stessi la sentenza di morte, affinché non ci confidassimo in noi stessi, ma in Dio che risuscita i morti,

but we ourselves in ourselves the sentence of the death have had, that we may not be trusting on ourselves, but on God, who is raising the dead,

10 i l quale ci ha liberati e ci libera da un sí grande pericolo di morte, e nel quale speriamo che ci libererà ancora nell'avvenire,

who out of so great a death did deliver us, and doth deliver, in whom we have hoped that even yet He will deliver;

11 m entre voi stessi vi unite a noi per aiutarci in preghiera, affinché siano rese grazie per noi da parte di molti, per il beneficio che ci sarà accordato tramite la preghiera di molte persone.

ye working together also for us by your supplication, that the gift through many persons to us, through many may be thankfully acknowledged for us.

12 I l nostro vanto infatti è questo: la testimonianza della nostra coscienza, che nel mondo e specialmente davanti a voi, ci siamo comportati con la semplicità e sincerità di Dio, non con sapienza carnale, ma con la grazia di Dio.

For our glorying is this: the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom, but in the grace of God, we did conduct ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you;

13 P erché non vi scriviamo altre cose se non quelle che potete leggere o comprendere; e io spero che le comprenderete fino in fondo;

for no other things do we write to you, but what ye either do read or also acknowledge, and I hope that also unto the end ye shall acknowledge,

14 c ome in parte ci avete già compreso, che noi siamo il vostro vanto, cosí anche voi sarete il nostro nel giorno del Signore nostro Gesú Cristo,

according as also ye did acknowledge us in part, that your glory we are, even as also ye ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus;

15 E con questa fiducia io volevo venire prima da voi affinché poteste avere un secondo beneficio,

and in this confidence I was purposing to come unto you before, that a second favour ye might have,

16 e , passando da voi, andare in Macedonia, e poi di nuovo dalla Macedonia venire da voi e da voi essere accompagnato in Giudea.

and through you to pass to Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and by you to be sent forward to Judea.

17 F acendo dunque questa decisione, ho io agito con leggerezza? O le cose che io decido, le decido io secondo la carne, di modo che vi sia in me allo stesso tempo il sí, sí, e il no, no?

This, therefore, counselling, did I then use the lightness; or the things that I counsel, according to the flesh do I counsel, that it may be with me Yes, yes, and No, no?

18 O ra, come è vero che Dio è fedele, la nostra parola verso di voi non è stata sí e no.

and God faithful, that our word unto you became not Yes and No,

19 P erché il Figlio di Dio, Gesú Cristo, che è stato fra voi predicato da noi cioè da me, da Silvano e da Timoteo non è stato «sí» e «no», ma è stato «sí» in lui.

for the Son of God, Jesus Christ, among you through us having been preached -- through me and Silvanus and Timotheus -- did not become Yes and No, but in him it hath become Yes;

20 P oiché tutte le promesse di Dio hanno in lui il «sí» e «l'amen», alla gloria di Dio per mezzo di noi.

for as many as promises of God, in him the Yes, and in him the Amen, for glory to God through us;

21 O r colui che ci conferma assieme a voi in Cristo e ci ha unti è Dio,

and He who is confirming you with us into Christ, and did anoint us, God,

22 i l quale ci ha anche sigillati e ci ha dato la caparra dello Spirito nei nostri cuori.

who also sealed us, and gave the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

23 O r io chiamo Dio come testimone sulla mia stessa vita che, per risparmiarvi, non sono ancora venuto a Corinto.

And I for a witness on God do call upon my soul, that sparing you, I came not yet to Corinth;

24 N on già che dominiamo sulla vostra fede, ma siamo collaboratori della vostra gioia, perché voi state saldi per fede.

not that we are lords over your faith, but we are workers together with your joy, for by the faith ye stand.
