1 N ell'anno trentaseiesimo del regno di Asa, Baasha, re d'Israele, salí contro Giuda e costruí Ramah, per impedire che alcuno uscisse o entrasse da Asa, re di Giuda.

In the thirty and sixth year of the reign of Asa, come up hath Baasha king of Israel, against Judah, and buildeth Ramah, so as not to permit any going out and coming in to Asa king of Judah.

2 A llora Asa tirò fuori dai tesori della casa dell'Eterno e del palazzo reale argento e oro e li mandò a Ben-Hadad re di Siria, che abitava a Damasco, dicendo:

And Asa bringeth out silver and gold from the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and of the house of the king, and sendeth unto Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who is dwelling in Damascus, saying,

3 « Vi sia alleanza fra me e te, come c 'era tra mio padre e tuo padre. Ecco, ti mando argento e oro; orsù, rompi la tua alleanza con Baasha, re d'Israele, affinché egli si ritiri da me».

`A covenant between me and thee, and between my father and thy father, lo, I have sent to thee silver and gold; go, break thy covenant with Baasha king of Israel, and he doth go up from off me.'

4 B en-Hadad diede ascolto al re Asa e mandò i capi del suo esercito contro le città d'Israele. Essi attaccarono Ijon, Dan, Abel-Maim e tutte le città-deposito di Neftali.

And Ben-Hadad hearkeneth unto king Asa, and sendeth the heads of the forces that he hath unto cities of Israel, and they smite Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-Maim, and all the stores, cities of Naphtali.

5 Q uando Baasha seppe questo, smise di costruire Ramah e sospese i suoi lavori.

And it cometh to pass, at Baasha's hearing, that he ceaseth from building Ramah, and letteth his work rest;

6 A llora il re Asa prese tutti quelli di Giuda, che portarono via le pietre e il legname che Baasha aveva usato per costruire Ramah e con essi egli costruí Gheba e Mitspah.

and Asa the king hath taken all Judah, and they bear away the stones of Ramah, and its wood, that Baasha hath built, and he buildeth with them Geba and Mizpah.

7 I n quel tempo il veggente Hanani si recò da Asa, re di Giuda, e gli disse: «Poiché ti sei appoggiato sul re di Siria e non ti sei appoggiato sull'Eterno, il tuo DIO, l'esercito del re di Siria ti è sfuggito dalle mani.

And at that time hath Hanani the seer come in unto Asa king of Judah, and saith unto him, `Because of thy leaning on the king of Aram, and thou hast not leaned on Jehovah thy God, therefore hath the force of the king of Aram escaped from thy hand.

8 N on erano forse gli Etiopi e i Libici un esercito smisurato con numerosissimi carri e cavalieri? Tuttavia poiché ti eri appoggiato sull'Eterno, egli li diede nelle tue mani.

Did not the Cushim and the Lubim become a very great force for multitude, for chariot, and for horsemen? and in thy leaning on Jehovah He gave them into thy hand,

9 L 'Eterno infatti con i suoi occhi scorre avanti e indietro per tutta la terra per mostrare la sua forza verso quelli che hanno il cuore integro verso di lui. In questo tu hai agito da stolto; perciò d'ora in avanti avrai delle guerre»,

for Jehovah -- His eyes go to and fro in all the earth, to show Himself strong a people whose heart perfect towards Him; thou hast been foolish concerning this, because -- henceforth there are with thee wars.'

10 A sa si indignò contro il veggente e lo fece gettare in carcere, perché si era adirato con lui per queste cose. In quel tempo Asa infierí anche contro alcuni del popolo.

And Asa is angry at the seer, and giveth him to the house of torture, for in a rage with him for this; and Asa oppresseth of the people at that time.

11 O r ecco, le gesta di Asa, dalle prime alle ultime, sono scritte nel libro dei re di Giuda e d'Israele.

And lo, the matters of Asa, the first and the last, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

12 N el trentanovesimo anno del suo regno Asa si ammalò ai piedi, e la sua malattia era molto grave: nella sua infermità però egli non cercò l'Eterno, ma ricorse ai medici.

And Asa is diseased -- in the thirty and ninth year of his reign -- in his feet, till his disease is excessive, and also in his disease he hath not sought Jehovah, but among physicians.

13 C osí Asa si addormentò con i suoi padri e morí il quarantunesimo anno del suo regno.

And Asa lieth with his fathers, and dieth in the forty and first year of his reign,

14 L o seppellirono nel sepolcro che egli si era fatto scavare nella città di Davide lo deposero sopra un letto pieno di aromi e di vari unguenti profumati, preparati secondo l'arte del profumiere, e ne bruciarono una grande quantità in suo onore.

and they bury him in his graves, that he had prepared for himself in the city of David, and they cause him to lie on a bed that hath filled spices, and divers kinds of mixtures, with perfumed work; and they burn for him a burning -- very great.
