1 Î n al treizeci şi şaselea an al domniei lui Asa, Başa, regele lui Israel, a înaintat împotriva lui Iuda. El a început să fortifice Rama, ca să nu dea voie nimănui să iasă sau să intre în teritoriul lui Asa, regele lui Iuda.

In the thirty and sixth year of the reign of Asa, come up hath Baasha king of Israel, against Judah, and buildeth Ramah, so as not to permit any going out and coming in to Asa king of Judah.

2 A sa a luat argintul şi aurul din vistieriile Casei Domnului şi din vistieriile palatului regelui şi le-a trimis lui Ben-Hadad, regele Aramului, care locuia în Damasc, zicându-i astfel:

And Asa bringeth out silver and gold from the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and of the house of the king, and sendeth unto Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who is dwelling in Damascus, saying,

3 „ Să fie un legământ între mine şi tine, aşa cum a fost între tatăl meu şi tatăl tău. Iată, îţi trimit argint şi aur! Du-te deci şi rupe legământul tău cu Başa, regele lui Israel, ca el să se retragă dinaintea mea.“

`A covenant between me and thee, and between my father and thy father, lo, I have sent to thee silver and gold; go, break thy covenant with Baasha king of Israel, and he doth go up from off me.'

4 B en-Hadad a ascultat de regele Asa şi i-a trimis pe conducătorii oştirilor sale împotriva cetăţilor lui Israel. Ei au cucerit cetăţile Iyon, Dan, Abel-Maim, precum şi toate cetăţile cu provizii din Neftali.

And Ben-Hadad hearkeneth unto king Asa, and sendeth the heads of the forces that he hath unto cities of Israel, and they smite Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-Maim, and all the stores, cities of Naphtali.

5 C ând Başa a auzit acest lucru, a încetat să mai fortifice Rama şi a oprit lucrarea.

And it cometh to pass, at Baasha's hearing, that he ceaseth from building Ramah, and letteth his work rest;

6 A tunci regele Asa i-a pus pe toţi cei din Iuda să ia pietrele şi lemnele folosite de Başa la fortificarea Ramei. El le-a folosit la fortificarea Ghevei şi a Miţpei.

and Asa the king hath taken all Judah, and they bear away the stones of Ramah, and its wood, that Baasha hath built, and he buildeth with them Geba and Mizpah.

7 Î n vremea aceea, văzătorul Hanani a venit la Asa, regele lui Iuda, şi i-a zis: „Pentru că te-ai sprijinit pe regele Aramului şi nu te-ai sprijinit pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, de aceea a scăpat oastea regelui Aramului din mâna ta!

And at that time hath Hanani the seer come in unto Asa king of Judah, and saith unto him, `Because of thy leaning on the king of Aram, and thou hast not leaned on Jehovah thy God, therefore hath the force of the king of Aram escaped from thy hand.

8 N u aveau cuşiţii şi libienii o oştire numeroasă, cu care şi cu foarte mulţi călăreţi? Şi totuşi, pentru că te-ai încrezut în Domnul, El i-a dat în mâna ta.

Did not the Cushim and the Lubim become a very great force for multitude, for chariot, and for horsemen? and in thy leaning on Jehovah He gave them into thy hand,

9 C ăci ochii Domnului străbat întreg pământul ca să-i întărească pe cei a căror inimă este devotată Lui. Ai lucrat ca un nebun în această privinţă şi de aceea, de acum încolo, vei avea parte de războaie!“

for Jehovah -- His eyes go to and fro in all the earth, to show Himself strong a people whose heart perfect towards Him; thou hast been foolish concerning this, because -- henceforth there are with thee wars.'

10 A sa s-a mâniat pe văzător şi l-a aruncat în temniţă, căci era foarte furios pe acesta. În acelaşi timp, Asa îi chinuia şi pe unii din popor.

And Asa is angry at the seer, and giveth him to the house of torture, for in a rage with him for this; and Asa oppresseth of the people at that time.

11 F aptele lui Asa, de la început până la sfârşit, sunt scrise în „Cartea regilor lui Iuda şi ai lui Israel“.

And lo, the matters of Asa, the first and the last, lo, they are written on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

12 Î n al treizeci şi nouălea an al domniei sale, regele Asa a avut o boală de picioare, iar suferinţa i-a fost foarte mare. Dar chiar şi în boala sa, el nu L-a întrebat pe Domnul, ci pe doctori.

And Asa is diseased -- in the thirty and ninth year of his reign -- in his feet, till his disease is excessive, and also in his disease he hath not sought Jehovah, but among physicians.

13 A sa s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi, murind în al patruzeci şi unulea an al domniei sale.

And Asa lieth with his fathers, and dieth in the forty and first year of his reign,

14 L -au înmormântat în mormântul pe care şi l-a săpat în Cetatea lui David. L-au aşezat pe un pat umplut cu mirodenii şi cu felurite miresme preparate din uleiuri şi au făcut, în cinstea lui, un foc foarte mare.

and they bury him in his graves, that he had prepared for himself in the city of David, and they cause him to lie on a bed that hath filled spices, and divers kinds of mixtures, with perfumed work; and they burn for him a burning -- very great.
