1 C hiar în ceasul acela ucenicii au venit la Isus şi L-au întrebat: – Cine este cel mai mare în Împărăţia Cerurilor?

At that hour came the disciples near to Jesus, saying, `Who, now, is greater in the reign of the heavens?'

2 I sus a chemat un copilaş, l-a pus să stea în mijlocul lor

And Jesus having called near a child, did set him in the midst of them,

3 ş i le-a zis: – Adevărat vă spun că, dacă nu vă schimbaţi şi nu deveniţi ca şi copilaşii, nu veţi intra niciodată în Împărăţia Cerurilor!

and said, `Verily I say to you, if ye may not be turned and become as the children, ye may not enter into the reign of the heavens;

4 P rin urmare, oricine se smereşte ca acest copilaş este cel mai mare în Împărăţia Cerurilor.

whoever then may humble himself as this child, he is the greater in the reign of the heavens.

5 Ş i oricine primeşte un astfel de copilaş în Numele Meu, pe Mine Mă primeşte.

`And he who may receive one such child in my name, doth receive me,

6 D ar dacă cineva îl face să păcătuiască pe vreunul dintre aceşti micuţi care cred în Mine, ar fi mai de folos pentru el să i se atârne de gât o piatră mare de moară şi să fie înecat în adâncul mării.

and whoever may cause to stumble one of those little ones who are believing in me, it is better for him that a weighty millstone may be hanged upon his neck, and he may be sunk in the depth of the sea.

7 V ai de lumea aceasta, din cauza prilejurilor de păcătuire! Căci prilejurile de păcătuire vin în mod inevitabil, dar vai de omul acela prin care vine prilejul de păcătuire!

`Wo to the world from the stumbling-blocks! for there is a necessity for the stumbling-blocks to come, but wo to that man through whom the stumbling-block doth come!

8 D acă mâna sau piciorul tău te fac să păcătuieşti, taie-le şi aruncă-le! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viaţă ciung sau şchiop, decât să ai două mâini sau două picioare şi să fii aruncat în focul veşnic!

`And if thy hand or thy foot doth cause thee to stumble, cut them off and cast from thee; it is good for thee to enter into the life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast to the fire the age-during.

9 Ş i dacă ochiul tău te face să păcătuieşti, scoate-l şi aruncă-l! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viaţă cu un singur ochi, decât să ai amândoi ochii şi să fii aruncat în focul Gheenei! Pilda cu oaia rătăcită

`And if thine eye doth cause thee to stumble, pluck it out and cast from thee; it is good for thee one-eyed to enter into the life, rather than having two eyes to be cast to the gehenna of the fire.

10 V edeţi să nu cumva să-l dispreţuiţi pe vreunul dintre aceşti micuţi, căci vă spun că îngerii lor din ceruri văd întotdeauna faţa Tatălui Meu, Care este în ceruri!

`Beware! -- ye may not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you, that their messengers in the heavens do always behold the face of my Father who is in the heavens,

11 ( Fiindcă Fiul Omului a venit să mântuiască ce era pierdut.)

for the Son of Man did come to save the lost.

12 C e părere aveţi? Dacă unui om care are o sută de oi i se rătăceşte una dintre ele, nu le lasă el oare pe celelalte nouăzeci şi nouă pe munţi şi se duce s-o caute pe cea rătăcită?

`What think ye? if a man may have an hundred sheep, and there may go astray one of them, doth he not -- having left the ninety-nine, having gone on the mountains -- seek that which is gone astray?

13 Ş i dacă i se întâmplă să o găsească, adevărat vă spun că se bucură de ea mai mult decât de celelalte nouăzeci şi nouă, care nu s-au rătăcit!

and if it may come to pass that he doth find it, verily I say to you, that he doth rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that have not gone astray;

14 T ot astfel, nu este voia Tatălui vostru din ceruri să piară vreunul dintre aceşti micuţi. Dacă semenul tău păcătuieşte (împotriva ta)

so it is not will in presence of your Father who is in the heavens, that one of these little ones may perish.

15 D acă fratele tău păcătuieşte (împotriva ta), du-te şi mustră-l doar între tine şi el. Dacă te ascultă, l-ai câştigat pe fratele tău.

`And if thy brother may sin against thee, go and show him his fault between thee and him alone, if he may hear thee, thou didst gain thy brother;

16 D ar dacă nu te ascultă, mai ia cu tine una sau două persoane, pentru ca „orice vorbă să fie susţinută pe baza mărturiei a doi sau trei martori”.

and if he may not hear, take with thee yet one or two, that by the mouth of two witnesses or three every word may stand.

17 D acă nici de ei nu vrea să asculte, spune acest lucru bisericii. Dar dacă nici de biserică nu vrea să asculte, atunci să fie pentru tine ca unul dintre neamuri şi ca un colector de taxe.

`And if he may not hear them, say to the assembly, and if also the assembly he may not hear, let him be to thee as the heathen man and the tax-gatherer.

18 A devărat vă spun că orice veţi lega pe pământ va fi legat în cer şi orice veţi dezlega pe pământ va fi dezlegat în cer.

`Verily I say to you, Whatever things ye may bind upon the earth shall be having been bound in the heavens, and whatever things ye may loose on the earth shall be having been loosed in the heavens.

19 D in nou, (adevărat) vă spun că, dacă doi dintre voi se înţeleg pe pământ să ceară un lucru oarecare, le va fi dat de Tatăl Meu, Care este în ceruri.

`Again, I say to you, that, if two of you may agree on the earth concerning anything, whatever they may ask -- it shall be done to them from my Father who is in the heavens,

20 C ăci unde sunt adunaţi doi sau trei în Numele Meu, acolo, în mijlocul lor, sunt şi Eu! Pilda cu sclavul nemilostiv

for where there are two or three gathered together -- to my name, there am I in the midst of them.'

21 A tunci Petru a venit la El şi L-a întrebat: – Doamne, de câte ori să-l iert pe fratele meu când va păcătui faţă de mine? Până la şapte ori?

Then Peter having come near to him, said, `Sir, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him -- till seven times?'

22 I sus i-a răspuns: – Eu nu-ţi zic să-l ierţi până la şapte ori, ci până la şaptezeci de ori câte şapte.

Jesus saith to him, `I do not say to thee till seven times, but till seventy times seven.

23 D e aceea, Împărăţia Cerurilor poate fi asemănată cu un împărat care a vrut să-şi pună în ordine socotelile cu sclavii săi.

`Because of this was the reign of the heavens likened to a man, a king, who did will to take reckoning with his servants,

24 C ând a început să facă socotelile, a fost adus la el unul care-i datora zece mii de talanţi.

and he having begun to take account, there was brought near to him one debtor of a myriad of talents,

25 D ar fiindcă nu avea cu ce să plătească, stăpânul a poruncit să fie vândut el, soţia lui, copiii lui şi tot ce avea, pentru a fi plătită datoria.

and he having nothing to pay, his lord did command him to be sold, and his wife, and the children, and all, whatever he had, and payment to be made.

26 S clavul a căzut la pământ, i s-a închinat şi i-a zis: – Mai ai răbdare cu mine şi-ţi voi plăti tot!

The servant then, having fallen down, was bowing to him, saying, Sir, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all;

27 S tăpânului acelui sclav i s-a făcut milă de el, aşa că l-a lăsat şi i-a iertat datoria.

and the lord of that servant having been moved with compassion did release him, and the debt he forgave him.

28 D upă ce a ieşit afară, sclavul acela s-a întâlnit cu un confrate de-al său, care-i datora o sută de denari. El l-a înşfăcat şi, în timp ce-l strângea de gât, i-a zis: – Plăteşte ce-mi datorezi!

`And, that servant having come forth, found one of his fellow-servants who was owing him an hundred denaries, and having laid hold, he took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that which thou owest.

29 A tunci confratele său a căzut la pământ şi i-a zis: – Mai ai răbdare cu mine şi-ţi voi plăti!

His fellow-servant then, having fallen down at his feet, was calling on him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all;

30 D ar el n-a vrut, ci s-a dus şi l-a aruncat în închisoare până va plăti ce este dator.

and he would not, but having gone away, he cast him into prison, till he might pay that which was owing.

31 C ând confraţii acestuia au văzut cele întâmplate, s-au întristat foarte tare. Ei s-au dus şi i-au povestit stăpânului lor tot ce se întâmplase.

`And his fellow-servants having seen the things that were done, were grieved exceedingly, and having come, shewed fully to their lord all the things that were done;

32 A tunci stăpânul lui l-a chemat la el şi i-a zis: – Sclav rău, eu ţi-am iertat ţie toată datoria aceea, pentru că m-ai rugat!

then having called him, his lord saith to him, Evil servant! all that debt I did forgive thee, seeing thou didst call upon me,

33 N u trebuia oare să ai milă de confratele tău, aşa cum am avut milă şi eu de tine?

did it not behove also thee to have dealt kindly with thy fellow-servant, as I also dealt kindly with thee?

34 S tăpânul s-a mâniat şi l-a dat pe mâna celor care torturau, până va plăti tot ce este dator.

`And having been wroth, his lord delivered him to the inquisitors, till he might pay all that was owing to him;

35 T ot aşa vă va face şi Tatăl Meu ceresc dacă nu-l iertaţi fiecare, din inimă, pe fratele vostru.

so also my heavenly Father will do to you, if ye may not forgive each one his brother from your hearts their trespasses.'
