1 „ Efraim se hrăneşte cu vânt; toată ziua aleargă după vântul de răsărit şi înmulţeşte minciuna şi violenţa. El a încheiat legământ cu Asiria şi a dus uleiul de măsline în Egipt.

Ephraim is enjoying wind, And is pursuing an east wind, All the day lying and spoiling he multiplieth, And a covenant with Asshur they make, And oil to Egypt is carried.

2 D omnul are o acuză de adus lui Iuda; El îl va pedepsi pe Iacov după umbletele lui şi îi va răsplăti după faptele lui.

And a controversy hath Jehovah with Judah, To lay a charge on Jacob according to his ways, According to his doings He returneth to him.

3 Î ncă din pântece el l-a apucat pe fratele său de călcâi, iar când a fost în putere s-a luptat cu Dumnezeu.

In the womb he took his brother by the heel, And by his strength he was a prince with God,

4 S -a luptat cu Îngerul şi a biruit; a plâns şi s-a rugat de El. El l-a găsit la Betel şi acolo a vorbit cu noi

Yea, he is a prince unto the Messenger, And he overcometh weeping, And he maketh supplication to Him, At Bethel He doth find him, And there He doth speak with us,

5 D omnul, Dumnezeul Oştirilor, Care este cunoscut ca Domnul.

Even Jehovah, God of the Hosts, Jehovah His memorial.

6 C ât despre tine, întoarce-te la Dumnezeul tău, păstrează dragostea şi dreptatea şi nădăjduieşte neîncetat în Dumnezeul tău.

And thou, through thy God, dost turn, Kindness and judgment keep thou, And wait on thy God continually.

7 E fraim este un negustor care are în mână o cumpănă înşelătoare; îi place să jecmănească.

Canaan! in his hand balances of deceit! To oppress he hath loved.

8 E fraim zice: «M-am îmbogăţit! Am făcut avere! În tot ce am obţinut, nimeni nu mi-ar putea găsi vreo vină care să-mi fie considerată păcat! »

And Ephraim saith: `Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself, All my labours -- they find not against me iniquity that sin.'

9 E u sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, din ţara Egiptului. Te voi face să locuieşti iarăşi în corturi, ca în zilele de sărbătoare!

And I -- Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt, Again do I turn thee back into tents, As in the days of the appointed time.

10 E u le-am vorbit profeţilor; Eu am înmulţit viziunile şi am vorbit în pilde prin profeţi.

And I have spoken unto the prophets, And I have multiplied vision, And by the hand of the prophets I use similes.

11 E ste Ghiladul nelegiuit? Cu siguranţă va ajunge un nimic! Ei jertfesc boi la Ghilgal, de aceea altarele lor vor ajunge mormane de pietre pe brazdele câmpului.

Surely Gilead iniquity, Only, vanity they have been, In Gilead bullocks they have sacrificed, Also their altars as heaps, on the furrows of a field.

12 I acov a fugit în ţara Aramului. Israel a muncit pentru o soţie; pentru o nevastă a păzit el oile.

And Jacob doth flee to the country of Aram, And Israel doth serve for a wife, Yea, for a wife he hath kept watch.

13 D omnul l-a scos pe Israel din Egipt printr-un profet; printr-un proroc a fost el păzit.

And by a prophet hath Jehovah brought up Israel out of Egypt, And by a prophet it hath been watched.

14 A marnic L-a mai mâniat Efraim pe Dumnezeu! Dar Stăpânul său va lăsa asupra lui vina sângelui vărsat şi-i va răsplăti pentru batjocura adusă.“

Ephraim hath provoked most bitterly, And his blood on himself he leaveth, And his reproach turn back to him doth his Lord!
