1 A colo Naomi avea o rudă din partea soţului ei, un bărbat foarte renumit din clanul lui Elimelek, al cărui nume era Boaz.

And Naomi hath an acquaintance of her husband's, a man mighty in wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name Boaz.

2 Î ntr-o zi, moabita Rut i-a zis lui Naomi: – Dă-mi voie, te rog, să merg pe ogor ca să strâng spice de pe urma aceluia înaintea căruia voi găsi bunăvoinţă. – Du-te, copila mea, i-a răspuns ea.

And Ruth the Moabitess saith unto Naomi, `Let me go, I pray thee, into the field, and I gather among the ears of corn after him in whose eyes I find grace;' and she saith to her, `Go, my daughter.'

3 E a s-a dus şi, ajungând pe un ogor, a început să culeagă spicele rămase în urma secerătorilor. S-a nimerit ca ogorul acela să fie tocmai al lui Boaz, din clanul lui Elimelek.

And she goeth and cometh and gathereth in a field after the reapers, and her chance happeneth -- the portion of the field is Boaz's who of the family of Elimelech.

4 C hiar atunci Boaz a sosit din Betleem şi le-a zis secerătorilor: – Domnul să fie cu voi! – Domnul să te binecuvânteze, i-au răspuns ei.

And lo, Boaz hath come from Beth-Lehem, and saith to the reapers, `Jehovah with you;' and they say to him, `Jehovah doth bless thee.'

5 A poi l-a întrebat pe slujitorul care supraveghea secerătorii: – A cui este tânăra aceasta?

And Boaz saith to his young man who is set over the reapers, `Whose this young person?'

6 S lujitorul care supraveghea secerătorii i-a răspuns: – Aceasta este tânăra moabită care s-a întors cu Naomi din câmpiile Moabului.

And the young man who is set over the reapers answereth and saith, `A young woman -- Moabitess -- she, who came back with Naomi from the fields of Moab,

7 E a mi-a zis: „Te rog, dă-mi voie să culeg şi să strâng dintre snopi spicele rămase în urma secerătorilor!“ Şi de azi dimineaţă, de când a venit, a stat în picioare până acum şi nu s-a odihnit decât pentru puţin timp, în adăpost.

and she saith, Let me glean, I pray thee -- and I have gathered among the sheaves after the reapers; and she cometh and remaineth since the morning and till now; she sat in the house a little.

8 B oaz i-a zis lui Rut: – Ascultă-mă, fiică! Să nu mergi la cules pe un alt ogor şi să nu pleci de aici! Rămâi cu slujitoarele mele.

And Boaz saith unto Ruth, `Hast thou not heard, my daughter? go not to glean in another field, and also, pass not over from this, and thus thou dost cleave to my young women:

9 U ită-te unde vor secera pe ogor şi du-te după ele! Voi porunci slujitorilor să nu se atingă de tine. Iar când ţi-e sete, poţi să mergi la vase şi să bei din ceea ce au scos slujitorii.

thine eyes on the field which they reap, and thou hast gone after them; have not I charged the young men not to touch thee? when thou art athirst then thou hast gone unto the vessels, and hast drunk from that which the young men draw.'

10 A tunci ea s-a aruncat cu faţa la pământ şi i-a zis: – Cum de am găsit bunăvoinţă înaintea ta, ca să mă iei în seamă pe mine, o străină ?

And she falleth on her face, and boweth herself to the earth, and saith unto him, `Wherefore have I found grace in thine eyes, to discern me, and I a stranger?'

11 – Mi s-a spus despre tot ce ai făcut pentru soacra ta după moartea soţului tău, i-a răspuns Boaz, cum ai părăsit pe tatăl tău şi pe mama ta şi ţara în care te-ai născut, ca să vii la un popor pe care nu-l cunoşteai până mai ieri.

And Boaz answereth and saith to her, `It hath thoroughly been declared to me all that thou hast done with thy mother-in-law, after the death of thy husband, and thou dost leave thy father, and thy mother, and the land of thy birth, and dost come in unto a people which thou hast not known heretofore.

12 D omnul să-ţi răsplătească fapta şi răsplata să-ţi fie deplină din partea Domnului, Dumnezeul lui Israel, sub aripile Căruia ai venit să te adăposteşti!

Jehovah doth recompense thy work, and thy reward is complete from Jehovah, God of Israel, under whose wings thou hast come to take refuge.'

13 – Să găsesc bunăvoinţă la tine şi pe mai departe, stăpânul meu, i-a răspuns ea, pentru că vorbele tale m-au mângâiat şi au atins inima slujnicei tale, deşi eu nu sunt nici măcar ca una dintre slujitoarele tale.

And she saith, `Let me find grace in thine eyes, my lord, because thou hast comforted me, and because thou hast spoken unto the heart of thy maid-servant, and I -- I am not as one of thy maid-servants.'

14 L a ora mesei Boaz i-a zis lui Rut: – Apropie-te, mănâncă din pâine şi înmoaie-ţi bucata în zeama cu oţet. Ea s-a aşezat lângă secerători, iar el a servit-o cu boabe prăjite. Ea a mâncat, s-a săturat şi i-a mai şi rămas.

And Boaz saith to her, `At meal-time come nigh hither, and thou hast eaten of the bread, and dipped thy morsel in the vinegar.' And she sitteth at the side of the reapers, and he reacheth to her roasted corn, and she eateth, and is satisfied, and leaveth.

15 A poi, când ea s-a ridicat să mai culeagă, Boaz le-a poruncit slujitorilor săi astfel: – Lăsaţi-o să culeagă chiar şi dintre snopi, fără să o umiliţi!

And she riseth to glean, and Boaz chargeth his young men, saying, `Even between the sheaves she doth glean, and ye do not cause her to blush;

16 B a chiar scoateţi-i spice din snopi şi aruncaţi-i-le pe jos, ca să le poată culege şi nu o dojeniţi!

and also ye do surely cast to her of the handfuls -- and have left, and she hath gleaned, and ye do not push against her.'

17 R ut a cules spice de pe ogor până seara, a bătut ce a cules şi i s-a strâns aproape o efă de orz.

And she gleaneth in the field till the evening, and beateth out that which she hath gleaned, and it is about an ephah of barley;

18 A luat ceea ce strânsese şi s-a dus în cetate, iar soacra sa a văzut cât culesese. Ea i-a dat lui Naomi şi ceea ce-i rămăsese după ce se săturase la masă.

and she taketh up, and goeth into the city, and her mother-in-law seeth that which she hath gleaned, and she bringeth out and giveth to her that which she left from her satiety.

19 A tunci soacra ei a întrebat-o: – Unde ai cules astăzi şi unde ai lucrat? Binecuvântat să fie cel ce te-a luat în seamă! Rut a început să-i povestească soacrei sale la cine a lucrat şi i-a zis: – Numele bărbatului la care am lucrat astăzi este Boaz.

And her mother-in-law saith to her, `Where hast thou gleaned to-day? and where hast thou wrought? may he who is discerning thee be blessed.' And she declareth to her mother-in-law with whom she hath wrought, and saith, `The name of the man with whom I have wrought to-day Boaz.'

20 N aomi i-a zis nurorii sale: – Binecuvântat să fie el de Domnul, Cel Care nu Şi-a părăsit îndurarea faţă de noi, cei vii, şi faţă de cei ce au murit! Bărbatul acesta este ruda noastră, i-a mai zis Naomi, dintre cei cu drept de răscumpărare asupra noastră.

And Naomi saith to her daughter-in-law, `Blessed he of Jehovah who hath not forsaken His kindness with the living and with the dead;' and Naomi saith to her, `The man is a relation of ours; he of our redeemers.'

21 M oabita Rut i-a zis: – El mi-a spus: „Stai aproape de slujitorii mei până vor sfârşi tot ce au de secerat.“

And Ruth the Moabitess saith, `Also he surely said unto me, Near the young people whom I have thou dost cleave till they have completed the whole of the harvest which I have.'

22 N aomi i-a răspuns nurorii sale Rut: – Este bine, fiica mea, să lucrezi cu slujnicele lui şi să nu dea alţii peste tine pe un alt ogor.

And Naomi saith unto Ruth her daughter-in-law, `Good, my daughter, that thou goest out with his young women, and they come not against thee in another field.'

23 A stfel, Rut a stat aproape de slujnicele lui Boaz şi a cules până când s-a încheiat seceratul orzului şi al grâului. Ea locuia împreună cu soacra ei.

And she cleaveth to the young women of Boaz to glean, till the completion of the barley-harvest, and of the wheat-harvest, and she dwelleth with her mother-in-law.
