1 O sea, fiul lui Ela, a început să domnească peste Israel, la Samaria, în al doisprezecelea an al domniei lui Ahaz, regele lui Iuda, şi a domnit timp de nouă ani.

In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah reigned hath Hoshea son of Elah in Samaria, over Israel -- nine years,

2 E l a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, însă nu ca regii lui Israel de dinaintea lui.

and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, only, not as the kings of Israel who were before him;

3 S almanasar, împăratul Asiriei, s-a ridicat împotriva lui şi astfel Osea a devenit vasalul lui şi i-a plătit tribut.

against him came up Shalmaneser king of Asshur, and Hoshea is to him a servant, and doth render to him a present.

4 Î mpăratul Asiriei a descoperit însă o uneltire a lui Osea, care îi trimisese soli lui So, monarhul Egiptului, şi nu-i mai aducea tributul anual împăratului Asiriei. Prin urmare, împăratul Asiriei l-a prins şi l-a aruncat în temniţă.

And the king of Asshur findeth in Hoshea a conspiracy, in that he hath sent messengers unto So king of Egypt, and hath not caused a present to go up to the king of Asshur, as year by year, and the king of Asshur restraineth him, and bindeth him in a house of restraint.

5 Î mpăratul Asiriei a străbătut toată ţara şi a mărşăluit împotriva Samariei, pe care a asediat-o timp de trei ani.

And the king of Asshur goeth up into all the land, and he goeth up to Samaria, and layeth siege against it three years;

6 Î n al nouălea an al domniei lui Osea, împăratul Asiriei a cucerit Samaria şi i-a dus pe israeliţi în captivitate în Asiria. El i-a pus să locuiască în Halah şi în Gozan, pe râul Habor şi în cetăţile mezilor. Cauzele desfiinţării regatului lui Israel

in the ninth year of Hoshea hath the king of Asshur captured Samaria, and removeth Israel to Asshur, and causeth them to dwell in Halah, and in Habor, the river Gozan, and the cities of the Medes.

7 A cestea s-au întâmplat din cauză că poporul Israel a păcătuit împotriva Domnului, Dumnezeul lor, Care i-a scos din ţara Egiptului, de sub stăpânirea lui Faraon, monarhul Egiptului. Ei s-au închinat înaintea altor dumnezei

And it cometh to pass, because the sons of Israel have sinned against Jehovah their God -- who bringeth them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt -- and fear other gods,

8 ş i au urmat atât obiceiurile neamurilor pe care Domnul le-a izgonit dinaintea israeliţilor, cât şi obiceiurile rânduite de regii lui Israel.

and walk in the statutes of the nations that Jehovah dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel, and of the kings of Israel that they made;

9 I sraeliţii au făcut pe ascuns împotriva Domnului, Dumnezeul lor, fapte care nu erau drepte. Ei şi-au zidit înălţimi în toate cetăţile lor, de la turnurile străjerilor până la cetăţile fortificate.

and the sons of Israel do covertly things that not right against Jehovah their God, and build for them high places in all their cities, from a tower of the watchers unto the fenced city,

10 Ş i-au ridicat stâlpi sacri şi aşere pe orice deal înalt şi sub orice copac verde.

and set up for them standing-pillars and shrines on every high height, and under every green tree,

11 A u ars tămâie pe toate înălţimile, la fel ca neamurile pe care le-a izgonit Domnul dinaintea lor şi au făcut lucruri rele, mâniindu-L pe Domnul.

and make perfume there in all high places, like the nations that Jehovah removed from their presence, and do evil things to provoke Jehovah,

12 E i au slujit idolilor deşi, Domnul le spusese: „Să nu faceţi lucrul acesta!“

and serve the idols, of which Jehovah said to them, `Ye do not do this thing;'

13 D omnul a avertizat pe Israel şi pe Iuda prin toţi profeţii Săi şi prin toţi văzătorii, zicându-le: „Întoarceţi-vă de la căile voastre rele şi păziţi poruncile şi hotărârile Mele, potrivit cu toată Legea pe care am poruncit-o strămoşilor voştri şi pe care v-am trimis-o prin robii Mei, profeţii!“

And Jehovah testifieth against Israel, and against Judah, by the hand of every prophet, and every seer, saying, `Turn back from your evil ways, and keep My commands, My statutes, according to all the law that I commanded your fathers, and that I sent unto you by the hand of My servants the prophets;'

14 D ar ei nu L-au ascultat, ci au fost încăpăţânaţi asemenea strămoşilor lor care nu crezuseră în Domnul, Dumnezeul lor.

and they have not hearkened, and harden their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who did not remain stedfast in Jehovah their God,

15 E i I-au respins hotărârile, legământul încheiat cu strămoşii lor şi mărturiile pe care li le-a dat El, umblând după lucruri de nimic şi devenind ei înşişi de nimic. Ei s-au luat după neamurile care erau în jurul lor, cu toate că Domnul le-a poruncit să nu se asemene cu ele.

and reject His statutes and His covenant that He made with their fathers, and His testimonies that He testified against them, and go after the vain thing, and become vain, and after the nations that are round about them, of whom Jehovah commanded them not to do like them;

16 E i au renunţat la toate poruncile Domnului, Dumnezeul lor, şi şi-au turnat ca idoli doi viţei şi un stâlp al Aşerei. S-au închinat întregii oştiri a cerurilor şi i-au slujit lui Baal.

And they forsake all the commands of Jehovah their God, and make to them a molten image -- two calves, and make a shrine, and bow themselves to all the host of the heavens, and serve Baal,

17 A u trecut prin foc pe fiii şi pe fiicele lor, s-au îndeletnicit cu ghicirea şi cu vrăjitoria şi s-au vândut ca să facă ce este rău înaintea Domnului, mâniindu-L.

and cause their sons and their daughters to pass over through fire, and divine divinations, and use enchantments, and sell themselves to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him;

18 D e aceea Domnul s-a mâniat foarte tare pe Israel şi l-a îndepărtat din prezenţa Lui, astfel încât n-a mai rămas decât seminţia lui Iuda.

That Jehovah sheweth himself very angry against Israel, and turneth them aside from His presence; none hath been left, only the tribe of Judah by itself.

19 Î nsă nici Iuda nu a păzit legământul Domnului, Dumnezeul lui, ci s-a luat după obiceiurile rânduite de Israel.

Also Judah hath not kept the commands of Jehovah their God, and they walk in the statutes of Israel that they had made.

20 D omnul i-a lepădat atunci pe toţi urmaşii lui Israel, i-a smerit, i-a dat pe mâna jefuitorilor şi, în cele din urmă, i-a izgonit din prezenţa Lui.

And Jehovah kicketh against all the seed of Israel, and afflicteth them, and giveth them into the hand of spoilers, till that He hath cast them out of His presence,

21 C ăci atunci când El îl despărţise pe Israel de Casa lui David, ei îl puseseră rege pe Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, cel care l-a înstrăinat pe Israel de Domnul şi l-a făcut să săvârşească un mare păcat.

for He hath rent Israel from the house of David, and they make Jeroboam son of Nebat king, and Jeroboam driveth Israel from after Jehovah, and hath caused them to sin a great sin,

22 I sraeliţii au continuat să săvârşească toate păcatele pe care le-a făcut Ieroboam şi nu s-au depărtat de ele,

and the sons of Israel walk in all the sins of Jeroboam that he did, they have not turned aside therefrom,

23 p ână ce Domnul l-a îndepărtat pe Israel din prezenţa Sa, aşa cum vestise prin toţi robii Săi, profeţii. Şi astfel Israel a fost luat de pe teritoriul său şi dus în captivitate în Asiria, unde a rămas până în ziua de astăzi. Colonizarea Samariei

till that Jehovah hath turned Israel aside from His presence, as He spake by the hand of all His servants the prophets, and Israel is removed from off its land to Asshur, unto this day.

24 Î mpăratul Asiriei a adus oameni din Babilon, din Cuta, din Ava, din Hamat şi din Sefarvayim şi i-a aşezat în cetăţile Samariei, în locul israeliţilor. Ei au luat în stăpânire Samaria şi au locuit în cetăţile ei.

And the king of Asshur bringeth in from Babylon and from Cutha, and from Ava, and from Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and causeth to dwell in the cities of Samaria instead of the sons of Israel, and they possess Samaria, and dwell in its cities;

25 C ând au început ei să locuiască acolo, nu se temeau de Domnul şi, prin urmare, Domnul a trimis împotriva lor nişte lei care au ucis pe câţiva dintre ei.

and it cometh to pass, at the commencement of their dwelling there, they have not feared Jehovah, and Jehovah doth send among them the lions, and they are destroying among them.

26 A tunci i-au zis împăratului Asiriei: „Popoarele pe care le-ai adus pentru a locui în cetăţile Samariei, nu cunosc Legea Dumnezeului acestei ţări. El a trimis împotriva lor nişte lei şi au fost ucise de ei pentru că nu cunosc Legea Dumnezeului acestei ţări!“

And they speak to the king of Asshur, saying, `The nations that thou hast removed, and dost place in the cities of Samaria, have not known the custom of the God of the land, and He sendeth among them the lions, and lo, they are destroying them, as they do not know the custom of the God of the land.'

27 A tunci împăratul Asiriei a poruncit zicând: „Trimiteţi pe unul din preoţii care au fost luaţi captivi din Samaria să meargă şi să locuiască acolo, ca să-i înveţe Legea Dumnezeului acelei ţări.“

And the king of Asshur commandeth, saying, `Cause to go thither one of the priests whom ye removed thence, and they go and dwell there, and he doth teach them the custom of the God of the land.'

28 U nul din preoţii care fusese luat captiv din Samaria s-a întors, a locuit la Betel şi i-a învăţat cum să se teamă de Domnul.

And one of the priests whom they removed from Samaria cometh in, and dwelleth in Beth-El, and he is teaching them how they do fear Jehovah,

29 D ar fiecare popor şi-a făcut proprii lui zei în cetăţile în care locuiau şi i-au pus în temple, pe înălţimile zidite de samariteni.

and they are making each nation its gods, and place in the houses of the high places that the Samaritans have made, each nation in their cities where they are dwelling.

30 O amenii din Babilon l-au făcut pe Sucot-Benot, oamenii din Cuta l-au făcut pe Nergal, oamenii din Hamat l-au făcut pe Aşima,

And the men of Babylon have made Succoth-Benoth, and the men of Cuth have made Nergal, and the men of Hamath have made Ashima,

31 i ar cei din Ava i-au făcut pe Nibhaz şi Tartak. Cei din Sefarvayim îşi ardeau fiii în foc, ca jertfă pentru Adra-Melek şi Ana-Melek, zeii din Sefarvayim.

and the Avites have made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites are burning their sons with fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, gods of Sepharvim.

32 E i se închinau Domnului, dar totodată şi-au numit pentru ei înşişi tot felul de preoţi ai înălţimilor, care aduceau pentru ei jertfe în templele de pe înălţimi.

And they are fearing Jehovah, and make to themselves from their extremities priests of high places, and they are acting for them in the house of the high places.

33 A stfel ei se închinau Domnului, dar slujeau şi zeilor lor după obiceiul popoarelor din care au fost aduşi.

Jehovah they are fearing, and their gods they are serving, according to the custom of the nations whence they removed them.

34 P ână în ziua de astăzi ei au aceleaşi obiceiuri vechi. Ei nu se închină Domnului; nu păzesc nici hotărârile şi rânduielile lor şi nici legile şi poruncile pe care le-a dat Domnul urmaşilor lui Iacov, căruia i-a pus numele Israel.

Unto this day they are doing according to the former customs -- they are not fearing Jehovah, and are not doing according to their statutes, and according to their ordinances, and according to the law, and according to the command, that Jehovah commanded the sons of Jacob whose name He made Israel,

35 D omnul încheiase cu ei un legământ şi le poruncise astfel: „Să nu vă temeţi de alţi dumnezei, să nu vă închinaţi lor, să nu le slujiţi şi să nu le aduceţi jertfe,

and Jehovah maketh with them a covenant, and chargeth them, saying, `Ye do not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them,

36 c i să vă temeţi de Domnul, Care v-a scos din ţara Egiptului cu mare putere şi cu braţ întins! Lui să vă închinaţi şi Lui să-I aduceţi jertfe!

but Jehovah who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a stretched-out arm, Him ye do fear, and to Him ye bow yourselves, and to Him ye do sacrifice;

37 V egheaţi întotdeauna să păziţi învăţăturile, rânduielile, legile şi poruncile pe care le-a scris pentru voi şi să nu vă temeţi de alţi dumnezei.

and the statutes, and the judgments, and the law, and the command, that He wrote for you, ye observe to do all the days, and ye do not fear other gods;

38 S ă nu uitaţi legământul pe care Eu l-am încheiat cu voi şi să nu vă temeţi de alţi dumnezei,

and the covenant that I have made with you ye do not forget, and ye do not fear other gods;

39 c i să vă temeţi de Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, şi El vă va izbăvi din mâna tuturor duşmanilor voştri.“

but Jehovah your God ye do fear, and He doth deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies;'

40 E i însă n-au ascultat, ci au urmat vechile lor obiceiuri.

and they have not hearkened, but according to their former custom they are doing,

41 A şadar, aceste popoare se temeau de Domnul, dar slujeau şi idolilor lor. Până în ziua de azi copiii lor şi copiii copiilor lor fac ceea ce au făcut şi părinţii lor.

and these nations are fearing Jehovah, and their graven images they have served, both their sons and their sons' sons; as their fathers did, they are doing unto this day.
