1 M oise a convocat tot Israelul şi i-a zis: „Ascultă, Israele, poruncile şi legile pe care vi le spun astăzi, în auzul vostru. Învăţaţi-le şi împliniţi-le!

And Moses calleth unto all Israel, and saith unto them, `Hear, Israel, the statutes and the judgments which I am speaking in your ears to-day, and ye have learned them, and have observed to do them.

2 D omnul, Dumnezeul nostru, a încheiat cu noi un legământ la Horeb.

Jehovah our God made with us a covenant in Horeb;

3 N u cu strămoşii noştri a încheiat El legământul acesta, ci cu noi, cei ce suntem în viaţă astăzi.

not with our fathers hath Jehovah made this covenant, but with us; we -- these -- here to-day -- all of us alive.

4 D omnul v-a vorbit faţă în faţă pe munte, din mijlocul focului.

Face to face hath Jehovah spoken with you, in the mount, out of the midst of the fire;

5 A tunci eu am stat între El şi voi, ca să vă fac cunoscut Cuvântul Domnului, deoarece v-a fost teamă de foc şi nu v-aţi urcat pe munte. Şi El a zis astfel:

I am standing between Jehovah and you, at that time, to declare to you the word of Jehovah, for ye have been afraid from the presence of the fire, and ye have not gone up into the mount; saying:

6 « Eu sunt Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, Care te-a scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa sclaviei.

`I Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out from the land of Egypt, from a house of servants.

7 S ă nu ai alţi dumnezei în afară de Mine.

`Thou hast no other gods in My presence.

8 S ă nu-ţi faci vreun idol reprezentând vreun lucru de sus din cer, de jos de pe pământ sau din apele de sub pământ.

`Thou dost not make to thee a graven image, any similitude which in the heavens above, and which in the earth beneath, and which in the waters under the earth;

9 S ă nu te închini înaintea lor şi să nu le slujeşti, fiindcă Eu, Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, sunt un Dumnezeu gelos, Care pedepsesc copiii pentru nelegiuirea părinţilor lor, până la a treia sau a patra generaţie a celor ce Mă urăsc

thou dost not bow thyself to them nor serve them, for I Jehovah thy God a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on children, and on a third, and on a fourth, to those hating Me;

10 ş i Îmi arăt îndurarea până la a mia generaţie a celor ce Mă iubesc şi împlinesc poruncile Mele.

and doing kindness to thousands, to those loving Me, and to those keeping My commands.

11 S ă nu foloseşti nesăbuit Numele Domnului, Dumnezeul tău, căci Domnul nu va lăsa nepedepsit pe cel care va folosi nesăbuit Numele Lui.

`Thou dost not take up the Name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah doth not acquit him who taketh up His Name for a vain thing.

12 P ăzeşte ziua de Sabat, ca s-o sfinţeşti, după cum ţi-a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

`Observe the day of the sabbath -- to sanctify it, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee;

13 S ă lucrezi şase zile şi să-ţi faci toată lucrarea ta,

six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,

14 d ar ziua a şaptea este Sabatul Domnului, Dumnezeul tău; să nu faci nici o lucrare, nici tu, nici fiul tău, nici fiica ta, nici sclavul sau sclava ta, nici boul, nici asinul şi nici un alt animal de-al tău, nici străinul care locuieşte în cetatea ta, pentru ca sclavul şi sclava ta să se odihnească la fel ca tine.

and the seventh day a sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thine ox, and thine ass, and all thy cattle, and thy sojourner who within thy gates; so that thy man-servant, and thy handmaid doth rest like thyself;

15 A du-ţi aminte că şi tu ai fost sclav în ţara Egiptului şi Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te-a scos de acolo cu mână puternică şi cu braţ întins. De aceea ţi-a poruncit El să păzeşti ziua de Sabat.

and thou hast remembered that a servant thou hast been in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah thy God is bringing thee out thence by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm; therefore hath Jehovah thy God commanded thee to keep the day of the sabbath.

16 C insteşte-l pe tatăl tău şi pe mama ta, aşa cum ţi-a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, pentru ca să trăieşti mult timp şi să-ţi meargă bine în ţara pe care ţi-o va da Domnul, Dumnezeul tău!

`Honour thy father and thy mother, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee, so that thy days are prolonged, and so that it is well with thee, on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.

17 S ă nu ucizi!

`Thou dost not murder.

18 S ă nu comiţi adulter!

`Thou dost not commit adultery.

19 S ă nu furi!

`Thou dost not steal.

20 S ă nu depui mărturie falsă împotriva semenului tău!

`Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour -- a false testimony.

21 S ă nu o pofteşti pe soţia semenului tău; să nu pofteşti casa semenului tău, pământul lui, sclavul sau sclava lui, boul sau asinul lui şi nici vreun alt lucru care este al semenului tău.»

`Thou dost not desire thy neighbour's wife; nor dost thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, and his man-servant, and his handmaid, his ox, and his ass, and anything which thy neighbour's.

22 A cestea sunt poruncile pe care Domnul le-a rostit cu glas tare înaintea întregii adunări, pe munte, din mijlocul focului, dintre nori şi negură deasă şi nu a mai adăugat nimic. Le-a scris pe două table de piatră şi mi le-a dat mie.

`These words hath Jehovah spoken unto all your assembly, in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness -- a great voice; and He hath not added, and He writeth them on two tables of stone, and giveth them unto me.

23 C ând aţi auzit glasul din mijlocul întunericului, în timp ce muntele ardea, căpeteniile seminţiilor voastre şi cei din sfatul bătrânilor s-au apropiat de mine

`And it cometh to pass as ye hear the voice out of the midst of the darkness, and of the mountain burning with fire, that ye come near unto me, all the heads of your tribes, and your elders,

24 ş i mi-au zis: «Iată că Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ne-a arătat slava şi măreţia Sa şi noi am auzit glasul Lui din mijlocul focului. În ziua aceasta am văzut că Dumnezeu a vorbit omului şi el a rămas în viaţă.

and say, Lo, Jehovah our God hath shewed us His honour, and His greatness; and His voice we have heard out of the midst of the fire; this day we have seen that God doth speak with man -- and he hath lived.

25 D ar acum, de ce trebuie să murim? Căci focul Lui cel mare ne va mistui şi ne va omorî dacă vom continua să ascultăm glasul Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru.

`And, now, why do we die? for consume us doth this great fire -- if we add to hear the voice of Jehovah our God any more -- then we have died.

26 C ine este omul care să fi auzit, ca şi noi, glasul Dumnezeului celui Viu, vorbind din mijlocul focului şi să trăiască?

For who of all flesh he who hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire like us -- and doth live?

27 A propie-te tu şi ascultă tot ceea ce Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, va vorbi. Apoi să ne spui şi nouă tot ceea ce El îţi va zice, iar noi vom asculta şi vom împlini.»

Draw near thou, and hear all that which Jehovah our God saith, and thou, thou dost speak unto us all that which Jehovah our God speaketh unto thee, and we have hearkened, and done it.

28 D omnul a auzit cuvintele pe care mi le-aţi spus şi mi-a vorbit: «Am auzit cuvintele pe care ţi le-a spus poporul acesta. Tot ceea ce au vorbit este bine.

`And Jehovah heareth the voice of your words, in your speaking unto me, and Jehovah saith unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken unto thee; they have done well all that they have spoken.

29 O , dacă ar rămâne ei cu aceeaşi inimă, să se teamă de Mine şi să păzească toate poruncile Mele în toate zilele vieţii lor, ca să fie fericiţi pentru totdeauna ei împreună cu fiii lor.

O that their heart had been thus to them, to fear Me, and to keep My commands all the days, that it may be well with them, and with their sons -- to the age!

30 D u-te şi spune-le să se întoarcă fiecare la cortul lui.

`Go, say to them, Turn back for yourselves, to your tents;

31 T u însă rămâi aici cu Mine ca să-ţi dau toate legile, poruncile şi hotărârile pe care trebuie să-i înveţi să le împlinească în ţara pe care le-o dau în stăpânire.»

and thou here stand thou with Me, and let Me speak unto thee all the command, and the statutes, and the judgments which thou dost teach them, and they have done in the land which I am giving to them to possess it.

32 D eci vegheaţi ca să faceţi aşa cum v-a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru. Să nu vă abateţi nici la dreapta, nici la stânga.

`And ye have observed to do as Jehovah your God hath commanded you, ye turn not aside -- right or left;

33 S ă umblaţi în toate căile pe care vi le-a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, ca să trăiţi, să fiţi fericiţi şi să aveţi multe zile în ţara pe care o veţi stăpâni.

in all the way which Jehovah your God hath commanded you ye walk, so that ye live, and well with you, and ye have prolonged days in the land which ye possess.
