1 M oise a chemat pe tot Israelul, şi i -a zis:,, Ascultă, Israele, legile şi poruncile pe cari vi le spun astăzi în auzul vostru. Învăţaţi-le, şi împliniţi-le cu scumpătate.

And Moses calleth unto all Israel, and saith unto them, `Hear, Israel, the statutes and the judgments which I am speaking in your ears to-day, and ye have learned them, and have observed to do them.

2 D omnul, Dumnezeul nostru, a încheiat cu noi un legămînt la Horeb.

Jehovah our God made with us a covenant in Horeb;

3 N ucu părinţii noştri a încheiat Domnul legămîntul acesta, ci cu noi, cari sîntem toţi vii astăzi aici.

not with our fathers hath Jehovah made this covenant, but with us; we -- these -- here to-day -- all of us alive.

4 D omnul v'a vorbit faţă în faţă pe munte, din mijlocul focului.

Face to face hath Jehovah spoken with you, in the mount, out of the midst of the fire;

5 E u am stat atunci între Domnul şi voi, ca să vă vestesc cuvîntul Domnului; căci vă era frică de foc, şi nu v'aţi suit pe munte. El a zis:

I am standing between Jehovah and you, at that time, to declare to you the word of Jehovah, for ye have been afraid from the presence of the fire, and ye have not gone up into the mount; saying:

6 E u sînt Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, care te-am scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa robiei.

`I Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out from the land of Egypt, from a house of servants.

7 S ă n'ai alţi dumnezei afară de Mine.

`Thou hast no other gods in My presence.

8 S ă nu-ţi faci chip cioplit, nici vreo înfăţişare a lucrurilor cari sînt sus în ceruri, sau jos pe pămînt, sau în ape supt pămînt.

`Thou dost not make to thee a graven image, any similitude which in the heavens above, and which in the earth beneath, and which in the waters under the earth;

9 S ă nu te închini înaintea lor, şi să nu le slujeşti; căci Eu, Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, sînt un Dumnezeu gelos, care pedepsesc fărădelegea părinţilor în copii pînă la al treilea şi la al patrulea neam al celor ce Mă urăsc;

thou dost not bow thyself to them nor serve them, for I Jehovah thy God a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on children, and on a third, and on a fourth, to those hating Me;

10 ş i Mă îndur pînă la al miilea neam de ceice Mă iubesc şi păzesc poruncile Mele.

and doing kindness to thousands, to those loving Me, and to those keeping My commands.

11 S ă nu iei în deşert Numele Domnului, Dumnezeului tău; căci Domnul nu va lăsa nepedepsit pe cel ce va lua în deşert Numele Lui.

`Thou dost not take up the Name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah doth not acquit him who taketh up His Name for a vain thing.

12 Ţ ine ziua de odihnă, ca s'o sfinţeşti, cum ţi -a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

`Observe the day of the sabbath -- to sanctify it, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee;

13 Ş ase zile să lucrezi, şi să-ţi faci toate treburile.

six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,

14 D ar ziua a şaptea este ziua de odihnă a Domnului, Dumnezeului tău: să nu faci nicio lucrare în ea, nici tu, nici fiul tău, nici fiica ta, nici robul tău, nici roaba ta, nici boul tău, nici măgarul tău, nici vreunul din dobitoacele tale, nici străinul care este în locurile tale, pentru ca şi robul şi roaba ta să se odihnească întocmai ca tine.

and the seventh day a sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thine ox, and thine ass, and all thy cattle, and thy sojourner who within thy gates; so that thy man-servant, and thy handmaid doth rest like thyself;

15 A du-ţi aminte că şi tu ai fost rob în ţara Egiptului, şi Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te -a scos din ea cu mînă tare şi cu braţ întins: de aceea ţi -a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, să ţii ziua de odihnă.

and thou hast remembered that a servant thou hast been in the land of Egypt, and Jehovah thy God is bringing thee out thence by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm; therefore hath Jehovah thy God commanded thee to keep the day of the sabbath.

16 C insteşte pe tatăl tău şi pe mama ta, cum ţi -a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ca să ai zile multe şi să fii fericit în ţara pe care ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

`Honour thy father and thy mother, as Jehovah thy God hath commanded thee, so that thy days are prolonged, and so that it is well with thee, on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.

17 S ă nu ucizi.

`Thou dost not murder.

18 S ă nu preacurveşti.

`Thou dost not commit adultery.

19 S ă nu furi.

`Thou dost not steal.

20 S ă nu mărturiseşti strîmb împotriva aproapelui tău.

`Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour -- a false testimony.

21 S ă nu pofteşti nevasta aproapelui tău; să nu pofteşti casa aproapelui tău, nici ogorul lui, nici robul lui, nici roaba lui, nici boul lui, nici măgarul lui, nici un alt lucru care este al aproapelui tău.``

`Thou dost not desire thy neighbour's wife; nor dost thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field, and his man-servant, and his handmaid, his ox, and his ass, and anything which thy neighbour's.

22 A cestea sînt cuvintele pe cari le -a rostit Domnul cu glas tare pe munte, din mijlocul focului din nori şi din negură deasă, şi le -a spus la toată adunarea voastră, fără să adauge ceva. Le -a scris pe două table de piatră, şi mi le -a dat.

`These words hath Jehovah spoken unto all your assembly, in the mount out of the midst of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness -- a great voice; and He hath not added, and He writeth them on two tables of stone, and giveth them unto me.

23 C înd aţi auzit glasul acela din mijlocul întunerecului, şi pe cînd tot muntele era aprins, căpeteniile seminţiilor voastre şi bătrînii voştri s'au apropiat toţi de mine,

`And it cometh to pass as ye hear the voice out of the midst of the darkness, and of the mountain burning with fire, that ye come near unto me, all the heads of your tribes, and your elders,

24 ş i aţi zis:,, Iată că Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ne -a arătat slava şi mărimea Lui şi noi I-am auzit glasul din mijlocul focului; astăzi, am văzut că Dumnezeu a vorbit unor oameni, şi totuş au rămas vii.

and say, Lo, Jehovah our God hath shewed us His honour, and His greatness; and His voice we have heard out of the midst of the fire; this day we have seen that God doth speak with man -- and he hath lived.

25 Ş i acum pentruce să murim? Căci acest foc mare ne va mistui; dacă vom auzi şi mai departe glasul Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, vom muri.

`And, now, why do we die? for consume us doth this great fire -- if we add to hear the voice of Jehovah our God any more -- then we have died.

26 C ine este, în adevăr, omul acela, care să fi auzit vreodată, ca noi, glasul Dumnezeului celui viu vorbind din mijlocul focului, şi totuş să fi rămas viu?

For who of all flesh he who hath heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire like us -- and doth live?

27 A propie-te mai bine, tu, şi ascultă tot ce-ţi va spune Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru; apoi să ne spui tu însuţi tot ce-ţi va spune Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, şi noi vom asculta, şi vom face.``

Draw near thou, and hear all that which Jehovah our God saith, and thou, thou dost speak unto us all that which Jehovah our God speaketh unto thee, and we have hearkened, and done it.

28 D omnul a auzit cuvintele pe cari mi le-aţi spus. Şi Domnul mi -a zis:,, Am auzit cuvintele pe cari ţi le -a spus poporul acesta: tot ce au zis este bine.

`And Jehovah heareth the voice of your words, in your speaking unto me, and Jehovah saith unto me, I have heard the voice of the words of this people which they have spoken unto thee; they have done well all that they have spoken.

29 O ! de ar rămînea ei cu aceeaş inimă ca să se teamă de Mine şi să păzească toate poruncile Mele, ca să fie fericiţi pe vecie, ei şi copiii lor!

O that their heart had been thus to them, to fear Me, and to keep My commands all the days, that it may be well with them, and with their sons -- to the age!

30 D u-te de spune-le:,,Întoarceţi-vă în corturile voastre.``

`Go, say to them, Turn back for yourselves, to your tents;

31 D ar tu, rămîi aici cu Mine, şi-ţi voi spune toate poruncile, legile şi rînduielile, pe cari să -i înveţi să le împlinească în ţara pe care le -o dau în stăpînire.``

and thou here stand thou with Me, and let Me speak unto thee all the command, and the statutes, and the judgments which thou dost teach them, and they have done in the land which I am giving to them to possess it.

32 L uaţi seama dar, să faceţi aşa cum v'a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru; să nu vă abateţi de la cele ce a poruncit El nici la dreapta, nici la stînga.

`And ye have observed to do as Jehovah your God hath commanded you, ye turn not aside -- right or left;

33 S ă urmaţi în totul calea pe care v'a poruncit Domnul Dumnezeul vostru, să umblaţi, ca să trăiţi şi să fiţi fericiţi, şi să aveţi zile multe în ţara pe care o veţi lua în stăpînire.

in all the way which Jehovah your God hath commanded you ye walk, so that ye live, and well with you, and ye have prolonged days in the land which ye possess.
