1 T oţii copiii lui Israel au ieşit dela Dan pînă la Beer-Şeba şi ţara Galaadului, şi adunarea s'a strîns ca un singur om înaintea Domnului, la Miţpa.

And all the sons of Israel go out, and the company is assembled as one man, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba, and the land of Gilead, unto Jehovah, at Mizpeh.

2 C ăpeteniile întregului popor, toate seminţiile lui Israel, au venit în adunarea poporului lui Dumnezeu: erau patru sute de mii de oameni pedeştri, cari scoteau sabia.

And the chiefs of all the people, of all the tribes of Israel, station themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen drawing sword.

3 Ş i fiii lui Beniamin au auzit că se suiseră copiii lui Israel la Miţpa. Copiii lui Israel au zis:,, Spuneţi cum s'a întîmplat această nelegiuire?``

And the sons of Benjamin hear that the sons of Israel have gone up to Mizpeh. And the sons of Israel say, `Speak ye, how hath this evil been?'

4 A tunci Levitul, bărbatul femeii care fusese ucisă, a luat cuvîntul, şi a zis:,, Ajunsesem, împreună cu ţiitoarea mea, la Ghibea lui Beniamin, ca să rămînem peste noapte acolo.

And the man, the Levite, husband of the woman who hath been murdered, answereth and saith, `Into Gibeah (which to Benjamin) I have come, I and my concubine, to lodge;

5 L ocuitorii din Ghibea s'au sculat împotriva mea, şi au înconjurat noaptea casa în care eram. Aveau de gînd să mă omoare, au siluit pe ţiitoarea mea, pînă cînd a murit.

and rise against me do the masters of Gibeah -- and they go round the house against me by night -- me they thought to slay, and my concubine they have humbled, and she dieth;

6 M i-am luat ţiitoarea, şi am tăiat -o în bucăţi, pe cari le-am trimes în tot ţinutul moştenirii lui Israel; căci au săvîrşit o nelegiuire şi o mişelie în Israel.

and I lay hold on my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and send her into all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have done wickedness and folly in Israel;

7 I ată-vă pe toţi, copii ai lui Israel; sfătuiţi-vă, şi luaţi o hotărîre aici!``

lo, ye all sons of Israel; give for you a word and counsel here.'

8 T ot poporul s'a sculat ca un singur om, şi a zis:,, Niciunul din noi să nu se ducă în cortul lui, şi nimeni să nu se întoarcă acasă.

And all the people rise as one man, saying, `None of us doth go to his tent, and none of us doth turn aside to his house;

9 I ată acum ce vom face cetăţii Ghibea: să mergem împotriva ei după cum vom ieşi la sorţ.

and now, this the thing which we do to Gibeah -- against it by lot!

10 S ă luăm din toate seminţiile lui Israel zece oameni din o sută, o sută dintr'o mie, şi o mie din zece mii; ei să se ducă să caute merinde pentru popor, pentruca, la întoarcerea lor, să facem cetăţii Ghibea din Beniamin potrivit cu toată mişelia pe care a făcut -o ea în Israel.``

and we have taken ten men of a hundred, of all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand of a myriad, to receive provision for the people, to do, at their coming to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly which it hath done in Israel.'

11 A stfel toţi bărbaţii lui Israel s'au strîns împotriva cetăţii, uniţi ca un singur om.

And every man of Israel is gathered unto the city, as one man -- companions.

12 S eminţiile lui Israel au trimes nişte oameni în toate familiile lui Beniamin, ca să -i spună:,, Ce înseamnă nelegiuirea aceasta care s'a făcut între voi?

And the tribes of Israel send men among all the tribes of Benjamin, saying, `What this evil which hath been among you?

13 S coateţi afară acum pe oamenii aceia stricaţi din Ghibea, ca să -i omorîm şi să curăţim răul din mijlocul lui Israel.`` Dar Beniamiţii n'au vrut să asculte glasul fraţilor lor, copiii lui Israel.

And now, give up the men -- sons of worthlessness -- which in Gibeah, and we put them to death, and we put away evil from Israel.' And Benjamin have not been willing to hearken to the voice of their brethren, the sons of Israel;

14 B eniamiţii au ieşit din cetăţile lor, şi s'au strîns la Ghibea, ca să lupte împotriva copiilor lui Israel.

and the sons of Benjamin are gathered out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle with the sons of Israel.

15 N umărul Beniamiţilor ieşiţi în ziua aceea din cetăţi fost de douăzeci şi şase de mii de oameni, cari scoteau sabia, fără să se mai socotească şi locuitorii din Ghibea, cari alcătuiau şapte sute de oameni aleşi.

And the sons of Benjamin number themselves on that day; out of the cities twenty and six thousand men drawing sword, apart from the inhabitants of Gibeah, numbered themselves, seven hundred chosen men;

16 Î n tot poporul acesta, erau şapte sute de oameni aleşi cari nu se slujeau de mîna dreaptă; toţi aceştia, aruncînd o piatră cu praştia, puteau să ochească un fir de păr, şi nu dădeau greş.

among all this people seven hundred chosen men, bound of their right hand, each of these slinging with a stone at the hair, and he doth not err.

17 S 'a făcut şi numărătoarea bărbaţilor lui Israel, afară de ai lui Beniamin, şi s'a găsit patru sute de mii cari scoteau sabia, toţi bărbaţii de război.

And the men of Israel numbered themselves, apart from Benjamin, four hundred thousand men, drawing sword, each of these a man of war.

18 Ş i copiii lui Israel s'au sculat, s'au suit la Betel, şi au întrebat pe Dumnezeu, zicînd:,, Cine din noi să se suie întîi ca să lupte împotriva fiilor lui Beniamin?`` Domnul a răspuns:,, Iuda să se suie întîi.``

And they rise and go up to Beth-El, and ask of God, and the sons of Israel say, `Who doth go up for us at the commencement to battle with the sons of Benjamin?' and Jehovah saith, `Judah -- at the commencement.'

19 C opiii lui Israel au pornit disdedimineaţă, şi au tăbărît la Ghibea.

And the sons of Israel rise in the morning, and encamp against Gibeah,

20 Ş i bărbaţii lui Israel au înaintat ca să înceapă lupta împotriva bărbaţilor lui Beniamin, şi s'au aşezat în linie de bătae împotriva lor înaintea cetăţii Ghibea.

and the men of Israel go out to battle with Benjamin, and the men of Israel set themselves in array with them, battle against Gibeah,

21 F iii lui Beniamin au ieşit din Ghibea, şi în ziua aceea au culcat la pămînt douăzeci şi două de mii de oameni din Israel.

and the sons of Benjamin come out from Gibeah, and destroy in Israel on that day two and twenty thousand men -- to the earth.

22 P oporul, bărbaţii lui Israel, s'au îmbărbătat, şi s'au aşezat din nou în linie de bătaie în locul unde se aşezaseră în ziua întîi.

And the people, the men of Israel, strengthen themselves, and add to set the battle in array in the place where they arranged themselves on the first day.

23 Ş i copiii lui Israel s'au suit, şi au plîns înaintea Domnului pînă seara; au întrebat pe Domnul, şi au zis:,, Să mă mai sui la luptă împotriva fiilor fratelui meu Beniamin?`` Domnul a răspuns:,, Suiţi-vă împotriva lui.``

And the sons of Israel go up and weep before Jehovah till the evening, and ask of Jehovah, saying, `Do I add to draw nigh to battle with the sons of Benjamin, my brother?' And Jehovah saith, `Go up against him.'

24 C opiii lui Israel au înaintat împotriva fiilor lui Beniamin, în ziua a doua.

And the sons of Israel draw near unto the sons of Benjamin on the second day,

25 Ş i în aceeaş zi, Beniamiţii le-au ieşit înainte din Ghibea, şi iarăş au culcat la pămînt optsprezece mii de oameni din copiii lui Israel, toţi în stare să poarte armele.

and Benjamin cometh out to meet them from Gibeah on the second day, and destroy among the sons of Israel again eighteen thousand men -- to the earth; all these are drawing sword.

26 T oţii copiii lui Israel şi tot poporul s'au suit şi au venit la Betel; au plîns şi au rămas acolo înaintea Domnului, au postit în ziua aceea pînă seara, şi au adus arderi de tot şi jertfe de mulţămire înaintea Domnului.

And all the sons of Israel go up, even all the people, and come in to Beth-El, and weep, and sit there before Jehovah, and fast on that day till the evening, and cause to ascend burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before Jehovah.

27 Ş i copiii lui Israel au întrebat pe Domnul-acolo se găsea atunci chivotul legămîntului lui Dumnezeu,

And the sons of Israel ask of Jehovah, -- and there the ark of the covenant of God in those days,

28 ş i Fineas, fiul lui Eleazar, fiul lui Aaron, stătea pe vremea aceea înaintea lui Dumnezeu, -şi au zis:,, Să mai pornesc la luptă împotriva fiilor fratelui meu Beniamin, sau să mă las?`` Domnul a răspuns:,, Suiţi-vă, căci mîne îi voi da în mînile voastre.``

and Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron, is standing before it in those days -- saying, `Do I add again to go out to battle with the sons of Benjamin, my brother, or do I cease?' And Jehovah saith, `Go up, for to-morrow I give him into thy hand.'

29 A tunci Israel a pus nişte oameni la pîndă în jurul cetăţii Ghibea.

And Israel setteth liers in wait against Gibeah, round about,

30 C opiii lui Israel s'au suit împotriva fiilor lui Beniamin, a treia zi, şi s'au aşezat în linie de bătaie înaintea cetăţii Ghibea, ca şi în celelalte dăţi.

and the sons of Israel go up against the sons of Benjamin, on the third day, and arrange themselves against Gibeah, as time by time.

31 Ş i fiii lui Beniamin au ieşit înaintea poporului, şi au fost traşi departe de cetate. Au început să lovească de moarte în popor, ca şi în celelalte dăţi, pe drumurile cele mari, cari suie: unul la Betel şi altul la Ghibea prin cîmpie, şi au ucis aproape treizeci de bărbaţi din Israel.

And the sons of Benjamin come out to meet the people; they have been drawn away out of the city, and begin to smite of the people -- wounded as time by time, in the highways (of which one is going up to Beth-El, and the other to Gibeah in the field), about thirty men of Israel.

32 F iii lui Beniamin ziceau:,, Iată -i bătuţi înaintea noastră ca şi mai înainte!`` Dar copiii lui Israel ziceau:,, Să fugim, şi să -i tragem departe de cetate la drumul mare.``

And the sons of Benjamin say, `They are smitten before us as at the beginning;' but the sons of Israel said, `Let us flee, and draw them away out of the city, unto the highways.'

33 T oţi bărbaţii lui Israel şi-au părăsit locurile, şi s'au înşiruit de bătaie la Baal-Tamar; şi oamenii lui Israel, cari stăteau la pîndă, s'au aruncat din locul în care erau, din Maare-Ghibea.

And all the men of Israel have risen from their place, and arrange themselves at Baal-Tamar, and the ambush of Israel is coming forth out of its place, out of the meadow of Gibeah.

34 Z ece mii de oameni aleşi din tot Israelul au ajuns înaintea cetăţii Ghibea. Lupta a fost aprigă, şi Beniamiţii nu-şi închipuiau prăpădul prin care aveau să treacă.

And they come in over against Gibeah -- ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel -- and the battle grievous, and they have not known that the evil is striking against them.

35 D omnul a bătut pe Beniamin înaintea lui Israel, şi copiii lui Israel au ucis în ziua aceea douăzeci şi cinci de mii o sută de oameni din Beniamin, toţi în stare să poarte armele.

And Jehovah smiteth Benjamin before Israel, and the sons of Israel destroy in Benjamin, on that day, twenty and five thousand, and a hundred men; all these drawing sword.

36 F iii lui Beniamin credeau că bărbaţii lui Israel sînt bătuţi, căci aceştia făceau loc Beniamiţilor şi se bizuiau pe oamenii pe cari -i puseseră la pîndă împotriva cetăţii Ghibea.

And the sons of Benjamin see that they have been smitten -- and the men of Israel give place to Benjamin, for they have trusted unto the ambush which they had set against Gibeah,

37 O amenii dela pîndă s'au aruncat repede asupra cetăţii Ghibea, au pornit înainte şi au trecut toată cetatea prin ascuţişul săbiei.

and the ambush have hasted, and push against Gibeah, and the ambush draweth itself out, and smiteth the whole of the city by the mouth of the sword.

38 D upă un semn asupra căruia se învoiseră cu bărbaţii lui Israel, cei dela pîndă aveau să facă să se înalţe din cetate un fum gros.

And there was the appointed sign to the men of Israel with the ambush -- their causing to go up a great volume of smoke from the city.

39 A tunci bărbaţii lui Israel s'au întors în luptă. Beniaminţii le omorîseră aproape treizeci de oameni, şi ziceau:,, Negreşit, iată -i bătuţi înaintea noastră ca în cea dintîi luptă!``

And the men of Israel turn in battle, and Benjamin hath begun to smite the wounded among the men of Israel, about thirty men, for they said, `Surely they are utterly smitten before us, as the first battle;

40 D ar un fum gros începea să se înalţe atunci din cetate. Beniamiţii s'au uitat înapoi; şi iată că flăcările se ridicau din cetatea întreagă spre cer.

and the volume hath begun to go up from the city -- a pillar of smoke -- and Benjamin turneth behind, and lo, gone up hath the perfection of the city toward the heavens.

41 B ărbaţii lui Israel se întorseseră; şi bărbaţii lui Beniamin s'au înspăimîntat, văzînd prăpădul care avea să -i ajungă.

And the men of Israel have turned, and the men of Benjamin are troubled, for they have seen that the evil hath stricken against them --

42 A u dat dosul înaintea bărbaţilor lui Israel, şi au fugit pe calea care duce în pustie., Dar năvălitorii s'au luat după ei, iar pe cei ce ieşiseră din cetate i-au culcat la pămînt, căci îi prinseseră la mijloc.

and they turn before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness, and the battle hath followed them; and those who from the city are destroying them in their midst;

43 A u înconjurat pe Beniamin, l-au gonit şi l-au zdrobit de îndată ce voia să se odihnească, pînă în faţa cetăţii Ghibea înspre soare răsare.

they have compassed the Benjamites -- they have pursued them -- with ease they have trodden them down till over-against Gibeah, at the sun-rising.

44 O ptsprezece mii de bărbaţi au căzut din Beniamin, toţi voinici.

And there fall of Benjamin eighteen thousand men -- the whole of these men of valour;

45 D in ceice au dat dosul ca să fugă spre pustie la stînca Rimon, bărbaţii lui Israel au nimicit cinci mii pe drumuri; i-au urmărit pînă la Ghideom, şi au ucis din ei două mii.

and they turn and flee toward the wilderness, unto the rock of Rimmon; and they glean of them in the highways five thousand men, and follow after them unto Gidom, and smite of them two thousand men.

46 Î ntreg numărul Beniamiţilor cari au perit în ziua aceea a fost de douăzeci şi cincii de mii de oameni în stare să poarte armele, toţi voinici.

And all those falling of Benjamin are twenty and five thousand men drawing sword, on that day -- the whole of these men of valour;

47 Ş ase sute de oameni erau ceice dăduseră dosul şi fugiseră spre pustie la stînca Rimon; acolo au rămas patru luni.

and there turn and flee into the wilderness, unto the rock of Rimmon six hundred men, and they dwell in the rock Rimmon four months.

48 B ărbaţii lui Israel s'au întors la fiii lui Beniamin, şi i-au trecut prin ascuţişul săbiei, dela oamenii din cetăţi pînă la dobitoace, şi tot ce au găsit. Au pus de asemenea foc tuturor cetăţilor pe cari le-au găsit în cale.

And the men of Israel have turned back unto the sons of Benjamin, and smite them by the mouth of the sword out of the city, -- men unto cattle, unto all that is found; also all the cities which are found they have sent into fire.
