Whoso is mocking at the poor Hath reproached his Maker, Whoso is rejoicing at calamity is not acquitted.

6 C opiii copiilor sînt cununa bătrînilor, şi părinţii sînt slava copiilor lor. -

7 C uvintele alese nu se potrivesc în gura unui nebun; cu cît mai puţin cuvintele mincinoase în gura unui om de viţă aleasă! -

Not comely for a fool is a lip of excellency, Much less for a noble a lip of falsehood.

8 D arurile par o piatră scumpă în ochii celor ce le primesc: ori încotro se întorc, izbîndesc. -

A stone of grace the bribe in the eyes of its possessors, Whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

9 C ine acopere o greşală, caută dragostea, dar cine o pomeneşte mereu în vorbirile lui, desbină pe prieteni. -

Whoso is covering transgression is seeking love, And whoso is repeating a matter Is separating a familiar friend.

10 O mustrare pătrunde mai mult pe omul priceput, decît o sută de lovituri pe cel nebun. -

An evil man seeketh only rebellion, And a fierce messenger is sent against him.

12 M ai bine să întîlneşti o ursoaică jefuită de puii ei, decît un nebun în timpul nebuniei lui. -

The meeting of a bereaved bear by a man, And -- not a fool in his folly.

13 C elui ce întoarce rău pentru bine, nu -i va părăsi răul casa. -

Whoso is returning evil for good, Evil moveth not from his house.

14 Î nceputul unei certe este ca slobozirea unor ape; deaceea, curmă cearta înainte de a se înteţi. -

15 C el ce iartă pe vinovat şi osîndeşte pe cel nevinovat, sînt amîndoi o scîrbă înaintea Domnului. -

Whoso is justifying the wicked, And condemning the righteous, Even both of these an abomination to Jehovah.

16 L a ce slujeşte argintul în mîna nebunului? Să cumpere înţelepciunea?... Dar n'are minte. -

Why this -- a price in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, And a heart there is none?

17 P rietenul adevărat iubeşte oricînd, şi în nenorocire ajunge ca un frate. -

At all times is the friend loving, And a brother for adversity is born.

18 O mul fără minte dă chezăşie, se pune chezaş pentru aproapele său. -

A man lacking heart is striking hands, A surety he becometh before his friend.

19 C ine iubeşte certurile iubeşte păcatul, şi cine-şi zideşte poarta prea înaltă, îşi caută pieirea. -

Whoso is loving transgression is loving debate, Whoso is making high his entrance is seeking destruction.

20 C el cu inimă prefăcută nu găseşte fericirea, şi cel cu limba stricată cade în nenorocire. -

The perverse of heart findeth not good, And the turned in his tongue falleth into evil.

21 C ine dă naştere unui nebun va avea întristare, şi tatăl unui nebun nu poate să se bucure. -

Whoso is begetting a fool hath affliction for it, Yea, the father of a fool rejoiceth not.

22 O inimă veselă este un bun leac, dar un duh mîhnit usucă oasele. -

A rejoicing heart doth good to the body, And a smitten spirit drieth the bone.

23 C el rău primeşte daruri pe ascuns, ca să sucească şi căile dreptăţii. -

A bribe from the bosom the wicked taketh, To turn aside the paths of judgment.

24 Î nţelepciunea este în faţa omului priceput, dar ochii nebunului o caută la capătul pămîntului. -

The face of the intelligent to wisdom, And the eyes of a fool -- at the end of the earth.

25 U n fiu nebun aduce necaz tatălui său, şi amărăciune celei ce l -a născut. -

A provocation to his father a foolish son, And bitterness to her that bare him.

26 N u este bine să osîndeşti pe cel neprihănit la o gloabă, nici să loveşti pe cei de neam ales din pricina neprihănirii lor. -

Also, to fine the righteous is not good, To smite nobles for uprightness.

27 C ine îşi înfrînează vorbele, cunoaşte ştiinţa, şi cine are duhul potolit este un om priceput. -

One acquainted with knowledge is sparing his words, And the cool of temper a man of understanding.

28 C hiar şi un prost ar trece de înţelept dacă ar tăcea, şi de priceput dacă şi-ar ţinea gura.

Even a fool keeping silence is reckoned wise, He who is shutting his lips intelligent!
