1 C hiar dacă aş vorbi în limbi omeneşti şi îngereşti, şi n'aş avea dragoste, sînt o aramă sunătoare sau un chimval zîngănitor.

If with the tongues of men and of messengers I speak, and have not love, I have become brass sounding, or a cymbal tinkling;

2 Ş i chiar dacă aş avea darul proorociei, şi aş cunoaşte toate tainele şi toată ştiinţa; chiar dacă aş avea toată credinţa aşa încît să mut şi munţii, şi n'aş avea dragoste, nu sînt nimic.

and if I have prophecy, and know all the secrets, and all the knowledge, and if I have all the faith, so as to remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing;

3 Ş i chiar dacă mi-aş împărţi toată averea pentru hrana săracilor, chiar dacă mi-aş da trupul să fie ars, şi n'aş avea dragoste, nu-mi foloseşte la nimic.

and if I give away to feed others all my goods, and if I give up my body that I may be burned, and have not love, I am profited nothing.

4 D ragostea este îndelung răbdătoare, este plină de bunătate: dragostea nu pizmuieşte; dragostea nu se laudă, nu se umflă de mîndrie,

The love is long-suffering, it is kind, the love doth not envy, the love doth not vaunt itself, is not puffed up,

5 n u se poartă necuviincios, nu caută folosul său, nu se mînie, nu se gîndeşte la rău,

doth not act unseemly, doth not seek its own things, is not provoked, doth not impute evil,

6 n u se bucură de neleguire, ci se bucură de adevăr,

rejoiceth not over the unrighteousness, and rejoiceth with the truth;

7 a copere totul, crede totul, nădăjduieşte totul, sufere totul.

all things it beareth, all it believeth, all it hopeth, all it endureth.

8 D ragostea nu va pieri niciodată. Proorociile se vor sfîrşi; limbile vor înceta; cunoştinţa va avea sfîrşit.

The love doth never fail; and whether prophecies, they shall become useless; whether tongues, they shall cease; whether knowledge, it shall become useless;

9 C ăci cunoaştem în parte, şi proorocim în parte;

for in part we know, and in part we prophecy;

10 d ar cînd va veni ce este desăvîrşit, acest,,în parte`` se va sfîrşi.

and when that which is perfect may come, then that which in part shall become useless.

11 C înd eram copil, vorbeam ca un copil, simţeam ca un copil, gîndeam ca un copil; cînd m'am făcut om mare, am lepădat ce era copilăresc.

When I was a babe, as a babe I was speaking, as a babe I was thinking, as a babe I was reasoning, and when I have become a man, I have made useless the things of the babe;

12 A cum, vedem ca într'o oglindă, în chip întunecos; dar atunci, vom vedea faţă în faţă. Acum, cunosc în parte; dar atunci, voi cunoaşte deplin, aşa cum am fost şi eu cunoscut pe deplin.

for we see now through a mirror obscurely, and then face to face; now I know in part, and then I shall fully know, as also I was known;

13 A cum dar rămîn aceste trei: credinţa, nădejdea şi dragostea; dar cea mai mare dintre ele este dragostea.

and now there doth remain faith, hope, love -- these three; and the greatest of these love.
