1 D omnul a vorbit lui Moise, în cîmpia Moabului, lîngă Iordan, în faţa Ierihonului. Şi a zis:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, Jericho, saying,

2 P orunceşte copiilor lui Israel, să dea Leviţilor, din moştenirea pe care o vor avea, nişte cetăţi în cari să poată locui. Să mai daţi Leviţilor şi un loc gol împrejurul acestor cetăţi.

`Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to inhabit; also a suburb for the cities round about them ye do give to the Levites.

3 C etăţile să fie ale lor, ca să locuiască în ele; iar locurile goale să fie pentru vitele lor, pentru averile lor şi pentru toate dobitoacele lor.

And the cities have been to them to inhabit, and their suburbs are for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

4 L ocurile goale din jurul cetăţilor pe cari le veţi da Leviţilor, să aibă, începînd dela zidul cetăţii în afară, o mie de coţi de jur împrejur.

`And the suburbs of the cities which ye give to the Levites, from the wall of the city and without, a thousand cubits round about.

5 S ă măsuraţi afară din cetate, două mii de coţi în partea de răsărit, două mii de coţi în partea de miazăzi, două mii de coţi în partea de apus, şi două mii de coţi în partea de miază noapte, aşa în cît cetatea să fie la mijloc. Acestea să fie locurile goale din jurul cetăţilor lor.

And ye have measured from the outside of the city, the east quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter, two thousand by the cubit; and the city in the midst; this is to them the suburbs of the cities.

6 D intre cetăţile pe cari le veţi da Leviţilor, şase să fie cetăţi de scăpare unde va putea să fugă ucigaşul, şi afară de acestea, să le mai daţi alte patruzeci şi două de cetăţi.

`And the cities which ye give to the Levites the six cities of refuge, which ye give for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, and besides them ye give forty and two cities;

7 T oate cetăţile pe cari le veţi da Leviţilor să fie patruzeci şi opt de cetăţi, împreună cu locurile lor goale.

all the cities which ye give to the Levites forty and eight cities, them and their suburbs.

8 C etăţile pe cari le veţi da din moşiile copiilor lui Israel să fie date mai multe de cei ce au mai multe, şi mai puţine de ceice au mai puţine; fiecare să dea Leviţilor din cetăţile lui după moştenirea pe care o va avea.``

And the cities which ye give of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.'

9 D omnul a vorbit lui Moise, şi a zis:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

10 V orbeşte copiilor lui Israel şi spune-le:, Cînd veţi trece Iordanul şi veţi intra în ţara Canaanului,

`Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When ye are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,

11 s ă vă alegeţi nişte cetăţi cari să vă fie cetăţi de scăpare, unde să poată scăpa ucigaşul care va omorî pe cineva fără voie.

and have prepared to yourselves cities -- cities of refuge they are to you -- then fled thither hath a man-slayer, smiting a person unawares,

12 A ceste cetăţi să vă slujească drept cetăţi de scăpare împotriva răzbunătorului sîngelui, pentruca ucigaşul să nu fie omorît înainte de a se înfăţişa în faţa adunării ca să fie judecat.

and the cities have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer, and the man-slayer doth not die till his standing before the company for judgment.

13 D in cetăţile pe cari le veţi da, şase să vă fie cetăţi de scăpare.

`As to the cities which ye give -- six cities of refuge to you;

14 S ă daţi trei cetăţi dincoace de Iordan, şi trei cetăţi în ţara Canaanului: acestea să vă fie cetaţi de scăpare.

the three of the cities ye give beyond the Jordan, and the three of the cities ye give in the land of Canaan; cities of refuge they are.

15 A ceste şase cetăţi să fie cetăţi de scăpare pentru copiii lui Israel, pentru străin şi pentru celce locuieşte în mijlocul vostru: acolo va putea să scape orice om care va ucide pe cineva fără voie.

To sons of Israel, and to a sojourner, and to a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting a person unawares.

16 D acă un om loveşte pe aproapele său cu o unealtă de fer, şi acesta moare, este un ucigaş: ucigaşul să fie pedepsit cu moartea.

`And if with an instrument of iron he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

17 D acă -l loveşte cu o piatră pe care o ţine în mînă, de care poate muri, şi moare, este un ucigaş: ucigaşul să fie pedepsit cu moartea.

`And if with a stone the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

18 D acă -l loveşte cu vreo unealtă de lemn pe care o ţine în mînă, de care poate muri, şi moare, este un ucigaş; ucigaşul să fie pedepsit cu moartea.

`Or with a wooden instrument the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

19 R ăzbunătorul sîngelui să omoare pe ucigaş; cînd îl va întîlni, să -l omoare.

`The redeemer of blood himself doth put the murderer to death; in his coming against him he doth put him to death.

20 D acă un om împinge pe aproapele său din ură, sau dacă -l pîndeşte şi arungă ceva asupra lui şi moare,

`And if in hatred he thrust him through, or hath cast at him by lying in wait, and he dieth;

21 s au dacă -l loveşte cu mîna din vrăjmăşie, şi moare, cel ce l -a lovit să fie pedepsit cu moartea; este un ucigaş: răzbunătorul sîngelui să omoare pe ucigaş, cînd îl va întîlni.

or in enmity he hath smitten him with his hand, and he dieth; the smiter is certainly put to death; he a murderer; the redeemer of blood doth put the murderer to death in his coming against him.

22 D ar dacă un om împinge pe aproapele lui fără veste şi nu din vrăjmăşie, sau dacă aruncă ceva asupra lui fără să -l fi pîndit,

`And if, in an instant, without enmity, he hath thrust him through, or hath cast at him any instrument, without lying in wait;

23 s au dacă aruncă asupra lui din nebăgare de seamă o piatră care -i poate pricinui moartea, şi moare, fără să -l urască şi fără să caute să -i facă rău:

or with any stone wherewith he dieth, without seeing, and causeth to fall upon him, and he dieth, and he not his enemy, nor seeking his evil;

24 I ată legile după cari va judeca adunarea între cel ce l -a lovit şi răzbunătorul sîngelui.

then have the company judged between the smiter and the redeemer of blood, by these judgments.

25 A dunarea va izbăvi pe ucigaş din mîna răzbunătorului sîngelui, şi -l va face să se întoarcă în cetatea de scăpare unde fugise. Să locuiască acolo pînă la moartea marelui preot care este uns cu untdelemn sfînt.

`And the company have delivered the man-slayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the company have caused him to turn back unto the city of his refuge, whither he hath fled, and he hath dwelt in it till the death of the chief priest, who hath been anointed with the holy oil.

26 D acă ucigaşul iese din hotarul cetăţii de scăpare unde fugise,

`And if the man-slayer at all go out the border of the city of his refuge whither he fleeth,

27 ş i dacă răzbunătorul sîngelui îl întîlneşte afară din hotarul cetăţii de scăpare şi ucide pe ucigaş, nu va fi vinovat de omor.

and the redeemer of blood hath found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood hath slain the man-slayer, blood is not for him;

28 C ăci ucigaşul trebuia să locuiască în cetatea lui de scăpare pînă la moartea marelui preot; şi după moartea marelui preot, putea să se întoarcă la moşia lui.

for in the city of his refuge he doth dwell till the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest doth the man-slayer turn back unto the city of his possession.

29 I ată poruncile de drept pentru voi şi pentru urmaşii voştri, în toate locurile în cari veţi locui.

`And these things have been to you for a statute of judgment to your generations, in all your dwellings:

30 D acă un om omoară pe cineva, ucigaşul să fie omorît, pe mărturia martorilor. Un singur martur nu va fi deajuns ca să fie osîndit cineva la moarte.

whoso smiteth a person, by the mouth of witnesses doth slay the murderer; and one witness doth not testify against a person -- to die.

31 S ă nu primiţi răscumpărare pentru viaţa unui ucigaş vinovat de moarte, ci să fie pedepsit cu moartea.

`And ye take no atonement for the life of a murderer who condemned -- to die, for he is certainly put to death;

32 S ă nu primiţi răscumpărare pentru cel ce trebue să fugă în cetatea lui de scăpare, ca să se întoarcă să locuiască în ţară pînă la moartea preotului.

and ye take no atonement for him to flee unto the city of his refuge, to turn back to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33 S ă nu pîngăriţi ţara unde veţi fi, căci sîngele celui nevinovat pîngăreşte ţara; şi ispăşirea sîngelui vărsat în ţară nu se va putea face decît prin sîngele celui ce -l va vărsa.

`And ye profane not the land which ye in, for blood profaneth the land; as to the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheddeth it;

34 S ă nu pîngăriţi deci ţara în care veţi merge să locuiţi, şi în mijlocul căreia voi locui şi Eu, căci Eu sînt Domnul, care locuieşte în mijlocul copiilor lui Israel.``

and ye defile not the land in which ye are dwelling, in the midst of which I do tabernacle, for I Jehovah do tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel.'
