1 D isse mais o Senhor a Moisés nas planícies de Moabe, junto ao Jordão, na altura de Jericó:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in the plains of Moab, by Jordan, Jericho, saying,

2 D á ordem aos filhos de Israel que da herança da sua possessão dêem aos levitas cidades em que habitem; também dareis aos levitas arrabaldes ao redor delas.

`Command the sons of Israel, and they have given to the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to inhabit; also a suburb for the cities round about them ye do give to the Levites.

3 T erão eles estas cidades para habitarem; e os arrabaldes delas serão para os seus gados, e para a sua fazenda, e para todos os seus animais.

And the cities have been to them to inhabit, and their suburbs are for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts.

4 O s arrabaldes que dareis aos levitas se estenderão, do muro da cidade para fora, mil côvados em redor.

`And the suburbs of the cities which ye give to the Levites, from the wall of the city and without, a thousand cubits round about.

5 E fora da cidade medireis para o lado oriental dois mil côvados, para o lado meridional dois mil côvados, para o lado ocidental dois mil côvados, e para o lado setentrional dois mil côvados; e a cidade estará no meio. Isso terão por arrabaldes das cidades.

And ye have measured from the outside of the city, the east quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the south quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the west quarter, two thousand by the cubit, and the north quarter, two thousand by the cubit; and the city in the midst; this is to them the suburbs of the cities.

6 E ntre as cidades que dareis aos levitas haverá seis cidades de refúgio, as quais dareis para que nelas se acolha o homicida; e além destas lhes dareis quarenta e duas cidades.

`And the cities which ye give to the Levites the six cities of refuge, which ye give for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, and besides them ye give forty and two cities;

7 T odas as cidades que dareis aos levitas serão quarenta e oito, juntamente com os seus arrabaldes.

all the cities which ye give to the Levites forty and eight cities, them and their suburbs.

8 O ra, no tocante

And the cities which ye give of the possession of the sons of Israel, from the many ye multiply, and from the few ye diminish; each, according to his inheritance which they inherit, doth give of his cities to the Levites.'

9 D isse mais o Senhor a Moisés:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,

10 F ala aos filhos de Israel, e dize-lhes: Quando passardes o Jordão para a terra de Canaã,

`Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, When ye are passing over the Jordan to the land of Canaan,

11 e scolhereis para vós cidades que vos sirvam de cidades de refúgio, para que se refugie ali o homicida que tiver matado alguém involuntariamente.

and have prepared to yourselves cities -- cities of refuge they are to you -- then fled thither hath a man-slayer, smiting a person unawares,

12 E estas cidades vos serão por refúgio do vingador, para que não morra o homicida antes de ser apresentado perante a congregação para julgamento.

and the cities have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer, and the man-slayer doth not die till his standing before the company for judgment.

13 S erão seis as cidades que haveis de dar por cidades de refúgio para vós.

`As to the cities which ye give -- six cities of refuge to you;

14 D areis três cidades aquém do Jordão, e três na terra de Canaã; cidades de refúgio serão.

the three of the cities ye give beyond the Jordan, and the three of the cities ye give in the land of Canaan; cities of refuge they are.

15 E stas seis cidades serão por refúgio aos filhos de Israel, ao estrangeiro, e ao peregrino no meio deles, para que se refugie ali todo aquele que tiver matado alguém involuntariamente.

To sons of Israel, and to a sojourner, and to a settler in their midst, are these six cities for a refuge, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting a person unawares.

16 M as se alguém ferir a outrem com instrumento de ferro de modo que venha a morrer, homicida é; e o homicida será morto.

`And if with an instrument of iron he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

17 O u se o ferir com uma pedra na mão, que possa causar a morte, e ele morrer, homicida é; e o homicida será morto.

`And if with a stone the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

18 O u se o ferir com instrumento de pau na mão, que possa causar a morte, e ele morrer, homicida é; será morto o homicida.

`Or with a wooden instrument the hand, wherewith he dieth, he hath smitten him, and he dieth, he a murderer: the murderer is certainly put to death.

19 O vingador do sangue matará ao homicida; ao encontrá-lo, o matará.

`The redeemer of blood himself doth put the murderer to death; in his coming against him he doth put him to death.

20 O u se alguém empurrar a outrem por ódio ou de emboscada lançar contra ele alguma coisa de modo que venha a morrer,

`And if in hatred he thrust him through, or hath cast at him by lying in wait, and he dieth;

21 o u por inimizade o ferir com a mão de modo que venha a morrer, será morto aquele que o feriu; homicida é. O vingador do sangue, ao encontrá-lo, o matará.

or in enmity he hath smitten him with his hand, and he dieth; the smiter is certainly put to death; he a murderer; the redeemer of blood doth put the murderer to death in his coming against him.

22 M as se o empurrar acidentalmente, sem inimizade, ou contra ele lançar algum instrumento, sem ser de emboscada,

`And if, in an instant, without enmity, he hath thrust him through, or hath cast at him any instrument, without lying in wait;

23 o u sobre ele atirar alguma pedra, não o vendo, e o ferir de modo que venha a morrer, sem que fosse seu inimigo nem procurasse o seu mal,

or with any stone wherewith he dieth, without seeing, and causeth to fall upon him, and he dieth, and he not his enemy, nor seeking his evil;

24 e ntão a congregação julgará entre aquele que feriu e o vingador do sangue, segundo estas leis,

then have the company judged between the smiter and the redeemer of blood, by these judgments.

25 e a congregação livrará o homicida da mão do vingador do sangue, fazendo-o voltar ã sua cidade de refúgio a que se acolhera; ali ficará ele morando até a morte do sumo sacerdote, que foi ungido com o óleo sagrado.

`And the company have delivered the man-slayer out of the hand of the redeemer of blood, and the company have caused him to turn back unto the city of his refuge, whither he hath fled, and he hath dwelt in it till the death of the chief priest, who hath been anointed with the holy oil.

26 M as, se de algum modo o homicida sair dos limites da sua cidade de refúgio, onde se acolhera,

`And if the man-slayer at all go out the border of the city of his refuge whither he fleeth,

27 e o vingador do sangue o achar fora dos limites da sua cidade de refúgio, e o matar, não será culpado de sangue;

and the redeemer of blood hath found him at the outside of the border of the city of his refuge, and the redeemer of blood hath slain the man-slayer, blood is not for him;

28 p ois o homicida deverá ficar na sua cidade de refúgio até a morte do sumo sacerdote; mas depois da morte do sumo sacerdote o homicida voltará para a terra da sua possessão.

for in the city of his refuge he doth dwell till the death of the chief priest; and after the death of the chief priest doth the man-slayer turn back unto the city of his possession.

29 E stas coisas vos serão por estatuto de direito pelas vossas gerações, em todos os lugares da vossa habitação.

`And these things have been to you for a statute of judgment to your generations, in all your dwellings:

30 T odo aquele que matar alguém, será morto conforme o depoimento de testemunhas; mas uma só testemunha não deporá contra alguém, para condená-lo ã morte.

whoso smiteth a person, by the mouth of witnesses doth slay the murderer; and one witness doth not testify against a person -- to die.

31 N ão aceitareis resgate pela vida de um homicida que é réu de morte; porém ele certamente será morto.

`And ye take no atonement for the life of a murderer who condemned -- to die, for he is certainly put to death;

32 T ambém não aceitareis resgate por aquele que se tiver acolhido ã sua cidade de refúgio, a fim de que ele possa tornar a habitar na terra antes da morte do sumo sacerdote.

and ye take no atonement for him to flee unto the city of his refuge, to turn back to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.

33 A ssim não profanareis a terra da vossa habitação, porque o sangue profana a terra; e nenhuma expiação se poderá fazer pela terra por causa do sangue que nela for derramado, senão com o sangue daquele que o derramou.

`And ye profane not the land which ye in, for blood profaneth the land; as to the land, it is not pardoned for blood which is shed in it except by the blood of him who sheddeth it;

34 N ão contaminareis, pois, a terra em que haveis de habitar, no meio da qual eu também habitarei; pois eu, o Senhor, habito no meio dos filhos de Israel.

and ye defile not the land in which ye are dwelling, in the midst of which I do tabernacle, for I Jehovah do tabernacle in the midst of the sons of Israel.'
