1 N aquele mesmo dia deu o rei Assuero ã rainha Ester a casa de Hamã, o inimigo dos judeus. E Mardoqueu apresentou-se perante o rei, pois Ester tinha declarado o que ele era.

On that day hath the king Ahasuerus given to Esther the queen the house of Haman, adversary of the Jews, and Mordecai hath come in before the king, for Esther hath declared what he to her,

2 O rei tirou o seu anel que ele havia tomado a Hamã, e o deu a Mardoqueu. E Ester encarregou Mardoqueu da casa de Hamã.

and the king turneth aside his signet, that he hath caused to pass away from Haman, and giveth it to Mordecai, and Esther setteth Mordecai over the house of Haman.

3 T ornou Ester a falar perante o rei e, lançando-se-lhe aos pés, com lágrimas suplicou que revogasse a maldade de Hamã, o agagita, e o intento que este projetara contra os judeus.

And Esther addeth, and speaketh before the king, and falleth before his feet, and weepeth, and maketh supplication to him, to cause the evil of Haman the Agagite to pass away, and his device that he had devised against the Jews;

4 E ntão o rei estendeu para Ester o cetro de ouro. Ester, pois, levantou-se e, pondo-se em pé diante do rei,

and the king holdeth out to Esther the golden sceptre, and Esther riseth, and standeth before the king,

5 d isse: Se parecer bem ao rei, e se eu tenho alcançado o seu favor, e se este negócio é reto diante do rei, e se eu lhe agrado, escreva-se que se revoguem as cartas concebidas por Hamã, filho de Hamedata, o agagita, as quais ele escreveu para destruir os judeus que há em todas as províncias do rei.

and saith, `If to the king good, and if I have found grace before him, and the thing hath been right before the king, and I good in his eyes, let it be written to bring back the letters -- a device of Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite -- that he wrote to destroy the Jews who in all provinces of the king,

6 P ois como poderei ver a calamidade que sobrevirá ao meu povo? ou como poderei ver a destruição da minha parentela?

for how do I endure when I have looked on the evil that doth find my people? and how do I endure when I have looked on the destruction of my kindred?'

7 E ntão disse o rei Assuero ã rainha Ester e ao judeu Mardoqueu: Eis que dei a Ester a casa de Hamã, e a ele enforcaram, porquanto estenderá as mãos contra os judeus.

And the king Ahasuerus saith to Esther the queen, and to Mordecai the Jew, `Lo, the house of Haman I have given to Esther, and him they have hanged on the tree, because that he put forth his hand on the Jews,

8 E screvei vós também a respeito dos judeus, em nome do rei, como vos parecer bem, e selai-o com o anel do rei; pois um documento escrito em nome do rei e selado com o anel do rei não se pode revogar.

and ye, write ye for the Jews, as good in your eyes, in the name of the king, and seal with the signet of the king -- for the writing that is written in the name of the king, and sealed with the signet of the king, there is none to turn back.'

9 E ntão foram chamados os secretários do rei naquele mesmo tempo, no terceiro mês, que é o mês de sivã, no vigésimo terceiro dia; e se escreveu conforme tudo quanto Mardoqueu ordenou a respeito dos judeus, aos sátrapas, aos governadores e aos príncipes das províncias, que se estendem da Índia até a Etiópia, cento e vinte e sete províncias, a cada província segundo o seu modo de escrever, e a cada povo conforme a sua língua; como também aos judeus segundo o seu modo de escrever e conforme a tua língua.

And the scribes of the king are called, at that time, in the third month -- it the month of Sivan -- in the three and twentieth of it, and it is written, according to all that Mordecai hath commanded, unto the Jews, and unto the lieutenants, and the governors, and the heads of the provinces, that from Hodu even unto Cush, seven and twenty and a hundred provinces -- province and province according to its writing, and people and people according to its tongue, and unto the Jews according to their writing, and according to their tongue.

10 M ardoqueu escreveu as cartas em nome do rei Assuero e, selando-as com anel do rei, enviou-as pela mão dos correios montados, que cavalgavam sobre ginetes que se usavam no serviço real e que eram da coudelaria do rei.

And he writeth in the name of the king Ahasuerus, and sealeth with the signet of the king, and sendeth letters by the hand of the runners with horses, riders of the dromedary, the mules, the young mares,

11 N estas cartas o rei concedia aos judeus que havia em cada cidade que se reunissem e se dispusessem para defenderem as suas vidas, e para destruírem, matarem e esterminarem todas as forças do povo e da província que os quisessem assaltar, juntamente com os seus pequeninos e as suas mulheres, e que saqueassem os seus bens,

that the king hath given to the Jews who in every city and city, to be assembled, and to stand for their life, to cut off, to slay, and to destroy the whole force of the people and province who are distressing them, infants and women, and their spoil to seize.

12 n um mesmo dia, em todas as províncias do rei Assuero, do dia treze do duodécimo mês, que é o mês de adar.

In one day, in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, on the thirteenth of the twelfth month -- it the month of Adar --

13 E uma cópia da carta, que seria divulgada como decreto em todas as províncias, foi publicada entre todos os povos, para que os judeus estivessem preparados para aquele dia, a fim de se vingarem de seus inimigos.

a copy of the writing to be made law in every province and province is revealed to all the peoples, and for the Jews being ready at this day to be avenged of their enemies.

14 P artiram, pois, os correios montados em ginetes que se usavam no serviço real, apressados e impelidos pela ordem do rei; e foi proclamado o decreto em Susã, a capital.

The runners, riding on the dromedary, the mules, have gone out, hastened and pressed by the word of the king, and the law hath been given in Shushan the palace.

15 E ntão Mardoqueu saiu da presença do rei, vestido de um traje real azul celeste e branco, trazendo uma grande coroa de ouro, e um manto de linho fino e de púrpura, e a cidade de Susã exultou e se alegrou.

And Mordecai went out from before the king, in royal clothing of blue and white, and a great crown of gold, and a garment of fine linen and purple, and the city of Shushan hath rejoiced and been glad;

16 E para os judeus houve luz e alegria, gozo e honra.

to the Jews hath been light, and gladness, and joy, and honour,

17 T ambém em toda a província, e em toda cidade, aonde chegava a ordem do rei ao seu decreto, havia entre os judeus alegria e gozo, banquetes e festas; e muitos, dentre os povos da terra, se fizeram judeus, pois o medo dos judeus tinha caído sobre eles.

and in every province and province, and in every city and city, the place where the word of the king, even his law, is coming, gladness and joy to the Jews, a banquet, and a good day; and many of the peoples of the land are becoming Jews, for a fear of the Jews hath fallen upon them.
