1 F alou mais o Senhor a Josué:

And Jehovah speaketh unto Joshua, saying,

2 D ize aos filhos de Israel: Designai para vós as cidades de refúgio, de que vos falei por intermédio de Moisés,

`Speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, Give for you cities of refuge, as I have spoken unto you by the hand of Moses,

3 a fim de que fuja para ali o homicida, que tiver matado alguma pessoa involuntariamente, e não com intento; e elas vos servirão de refúgio contra o vingador do sangue.

for the fleeing thither of a man-slayer smiting life inadvertently, without knowledge; and they have been to you for a refuge from the redeemer of blood.

4 F ugindo ele para uma dessas cidades, apresentar-se-á ã porta da mesma, e exporá a sua causa aos anciãos da tal cidade; então eles o acolherão ali e lhe darão lugar, para que habite com eles.

`When hath fled unto one of these cities, and hath stood the opening of the gate of the city, and hath spoken in the ears of the elders of that city his matter, then they have gathered him into the city unto them, and have given to him a place, and he hath dwelt with them.

5 S e, pois, o vingador do sangue o perseguir, não lhe entregarão o homicida, porquanto feriu a seu próximo sem intenção e sem odiá-lo dantes.

`And when the redeemer of blood doth pursue after him, then they do not shut up the man-slayer into his hand, for without knowledge he hath smitten his neighbour, and is not hating him hitherto;

6 E habitará nessa cidade até que compareça em juizo perante a congregação, até que morra o sumo sacerdote que houver naqueles dias; então o homicida voltará, e virá ã sua cidade e ã sua casa, ã cidade donde tiver fugido.

and he hath dwelt in that city till his standing before the company for judgment, till the death of the chief priest who is in those days -- then doth the man-slayer turn back and hath come unto his city, and unto his house, unto the city whence he fled.'

7 E ntão designaram a Quedes na Galiléia, na região montanhosa de Naftali, a Siquém na região montanhosa de Efraim, e a Quiriate-Arba (esta é Hebrom) na região montanhosa de Judá.

And they sanctify Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba (it Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah;

8 E , além do Jordão na altura de Jericó para o oriente, designaram a Bezer, no deserto, no planalto da tribo de Rúben a Ramote, em Gileade, da tribo de Gade, e a Golã, em Basã, da tribo de Manassés.

and beyond the Jordan, Jericho eastward, they have given Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

9 F oram estas as cidades designadas para todos os filhos de Israel, e para o estrangeiro que peregrinasse entre eles, para que se acolhesse a elas todo aquele que matasse alguma pessoa involuntariamente, para que não morresse

These have been cities of meeting for all the sons of Israel, and for a sojourner who is sojourning in their midst, for the fleeing thither of any one smiting life inadvertently, and he doth not die by the hand of the redeemer of blood till his standing before the company.
