1 Q uando Jabim, rei de Hazor, ouviu isso, enviou mensageiros a Jobabe, rei de Madom, e ao rei de Sinrom, e ao rei de Acsafe,

And it cometh to pass when Jabin king of Hazor heareth, that he sendeth unto Jobab king of Madon, and unto the king of Shimron, and unto the king of Achshaph,

2 e aos reis que estavam ao norte, na região montanhosa, na Arabá ao sul de Quinerote, na baixada, e nos planaltos de Dor ao ocidente;

and unto the kings who on the north in the hill-country, and in the plain south of Chinneroth, and in the low country, and in the elevations of Dor, on the west,

3 a o cananeu do oriente e do ocidente, ao amorreu, ao heteu, ao perizeu, ao jebuseu na região montanhosa, e ao heveu ao pé de Hermom na terra de Mizpá.

the Canaanite on the east, and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon, in the land of Mizpeh --

4 S aíram pois eles, com todos os seus exércitos, muito povo, em multidão como a areia que está na praia do mar, e muitíssimos cavalos e carros.

and they go out, they and all their camps with them, a people numerous, as the sand which on the sea-shore for multitude, and horse and charioteer very many;

5 T odos esses reis, reunindo-se, vieram e juntos se acamparam

and all these kings are met together, and they come and encamp together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

6 D isse o Senhor a Josué: Não os temas, pois amanhã a esta hora eu os entregarei todos mortos diante de Israel. Os seus cavalos jarretarás, e os seus carros queimarás a fogo.

And Jehovah saith unto Joshua, `Be not afraid of their presence, for to-morrow about this time I am giving all of them wounded before Israel; their horses thou dost hough, and their chariots burn with fire.'

7 J osué, pois, com toda a gente de guerra, sobreveio-lhes de repente

And Joshua cometh, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and they fall on them;

8 E o Senhor os entregou na mão dos israelitas, que os feriram e os perseguiram até a grande Sidom, e até Misrefote-Maim, e até o vale de Mizpe ao oriente; e feriram-nos até não lhes deixar nem sequer um.

and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of Israel, and they smite them and pursue them unto the great Zidon, and unto Misrephoth-Maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward, and they smite them, till he hath not left to them a remnant;

9 F ez-lhes Josué como o Senhor lhe dissera: os seus cavalos jarretou, e os seus carros queimou a fogo.

and Joshua doth to them as Jehovah said to him; their horses he hath houghed, and their chariots burnt with fire.

10 N aquele tempo Josué voltou e tomou também a Hazor, e feriu ã espada ao seu rei, porquanto Hazor dantes era a cabeça de todos estes reinos.

And Joshua turneth back at that time, and captureth Hazor, and its king he hath smitten by the sword; for Hazor formerly head of all these kingdoms;

11 E passaram ao fio da espada a todos os que nela havia, destruindo-os totalmente; nada restou do que tinha fôlego; e a Hazor ele queimou a fogo.

and they smite every person who in it by the mouth of the sword; he hath devoted -- he hath not left any one breathing, and Hazor he hath burnt with fire;

12 J osué, pois, tomou todas as cidades desses reis, e a eles mesmos, e os passou ao fio da espada, destruindo-os totalmente, como ordenara Moisés, servo do Senhor.

and all the cities of these kings, and all their kings, hath Joshua captured, and he smiteth them by the mouth of the sword; he devoted them, as Moses, servant of Jehovah, commanded.

13 C ontudo, quanto

Only, all the cities which are standing by their hill, Israel hath not burned them, save Hazor only, hath Joshua burnt;

14 M as todos os despojos dessas cidades, e o gado, tomaram-nos os filhos de Israel como presa para si; porém feriram ao fio da espada todos os homens, até os destruírem; nada deixaram do que tinha fôlego de vida.

and all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, have the sons of Israel spoiled for themselves; only, every human being they have smitten by the mouth of the sword, till their destroying them; they have not left any one breathing.

15 C omo o Senhor ordenara a Moisés, seu servo, assim Moisés ordenou a Josué, e assim Josué o fez; não deixou de fazer coisa alguma de tudo o que o Senhor ordenara a Moisés.

As Jehovah commanded Moses His servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so hath Joshua done; he hath not turned aside a thing of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

16 A ssim Josué tomou toda aquela terra, a região montanhosa, todo o Negebe, e toda a terra de Gósem e a baixada, e a Arabá, e a região montanhosa de Israel com a sua baixada,

And Joshua taketh all this land: the hill-country, and all the south, and all the land of Goshen, and the low country, and the plain, even the hill-country of Israel and its low lands,

17 d esde o monte Halaque, que sobe a Seir, até Baal-Gade, no vale do Líbano, ao pé do monte Hermom; também tomou todos os seus reis, e os feriu e os matou.

from the mount of Halak, which is going up Seir, and unto Baal-Gad, in the valley of Lebanon, under mount Hermon; and all their kings he hath captured, and he smiteth them, and putteth them to death.

18 P or muito tempo Josué fez guerra contra todos esses reis.

Many days hath Joshua made with all these kings war;

19 N ão houve cidade que fizesse paz com os filhos de Israel, senão os heveus, moradores de Gibeão; a todas tomaram ã força de armas.

there hath not been a city which made peace with the sons of Israel save the Hivite, inhabitants of Gibeon; the whole they have taken in battle;

20 P orquanto do Senhor veio o endurecimento dos seus corações para saírem ã guerra contra Israel, a fim de que fossem destruídos totalmente, e não achassem piedade alguma, mas fossem exterminados, como o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés.

for from Jehovah it hath been to strengthen their heart, to meet in battle with Israel, in order to devote them, so that they have no grace, but in order to destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

21 N aquele tempo veio Josué, e exterminou os anaquins da região montanhosa de Hebrom, de Debir, de Anabe, de toda a região montanhosa de Judá, e de toda a região montanhosa de Israel; Josué os destruiu totalmente com as suas cidades.

And Joshua cometh at that time, and cutteth off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, even from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel; with their cities hath Joshua devoted them.

22 N ão foi deixado nem sequer um dos anaquins na terra dos filhos de Israel; somente ficaram alguns em Gaza, em Gate, e em Asdode.

There hath not been left Anakim in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, were they left.

23 A ssim Josué tomou toda esta terra conforme tudo o que o Senhor tinha dito a Moisés; e Josué a deu em herança a Israel, pelas suas divisões, segundo as suas tribos; e a terra repousou da guerra.

And Joshua taketh the whole of the land, according to all that Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses, and Joshua giveth it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions, by their tribes; and the land hath rest from war.
