1 P orque eis que o Senhor Deus dos exércitos está tirando de Jerusalém e de Judá o bordão e o cajado, isto é, todo o recurso de pão, e todo o recurso de água;

For, lo, the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, Is turning aside from Jerusalem, And from Judah, stay and staff, Every stay of bread, and every stay of water.

2 o valente e o soldado, o juiz e o profeta, o adivinho e o ancião;

Hero and man of war, judge and prophet, And diviner and elder,

3 o capitão de cinqüenta e o respeitável, o conselheiro, o artífice hábil e o encantador perito;

Head of fifty, and accepted of faces, And counsellor, and the wise of artificers, And the intelligent of charmers.

4 e dar-lhes-ei meninos por príncipes, e crianças governarão sobre eles.

And I have made youths their heads, And sucklings rule over them.

5 O povo será oprimido; um será contra o outro, e cada um contra o seu próximo; o menino se atreverá contra o ancião, e o vil contra o nobre.

And the people hath exacted -- man upon man, Even a man on his neighbour, Enlarge themselves do the youths against the aged, And the lightly esteemed against the honoured.

6 Q uando alguém pegar de seu irmão na casa de seu pai, dizendo: Tu tens roupa, tu serás o nosso príncipe, e tomarás sob a tua mão esta ruína.

When one layeth hold on his brother, the house of his father, the garment, `Come, a ruler thou art to us, And this ruin under thy hand.'

7 N aquele dia levantará este a sua voz, dizendo: Não quero ser médico; pois em minha casa não há pão nem roupa; não me haveis de constituir governador sobre o povo.

He lifteth up, in that day, saying: `I am not a binder up, And in my house is neither bread nor garment, Ye do not make me a ruler of the people.'

8 P ois Jerusalém tropeçou, e Judá caiu; porque a sua língua e as suas obras são contra o Senhor, para afrontarem a sua gloriosa presença.

For stumbled hath Jerusalem, and Judah hath fallen, For their tongue and their doings against Jehovah, To provoke the eyes of His glory.

9 O aspecto do semblante dá testemunho contra eles; e, como Sodoma, publicam os seus pecados sem os disfarçar. Ai da sua alma! porque eles fazem mal a si mesmos.

The appearance of their faces witnessed against them, And their sin, as Sodom, they declared, They have not hidden! Wo to their soul, For they have done to themselves evil.

10 D izei aos justos que bem lhes irá; porque comerão do fruto das suas obras.

Say ye to the righteous, that good, Because the fruit of their doings they eat.

11 A i do ímpio! mal lhe irá; pois se lhe fará o que as suas mãos fizeram.

Wo to the wicked -- evil, Because the deed of his hand is done to him.

12 Q uanto ao meu povo, crianças são os seus opressores, e mulheres dominam sobre eles. Ah, povo meu! os que te guiam te enganam, e destroem o caminho das tuas veredas.

My people -- its exactors sucklings, And women have ruled over it. My people -- thy eulogists are causing to err, And the way of thy paths swallowed up.

13 O Senhor levanta-se para pleitear, e põe-se de pé para julgar os povos.

Jehovah hath stood up to plead, And He is standing to judge the peoples.

14 O Senhor entra em juízo contra os anciãos do seu povo, e contra os seus príncipes; sois vós que consumistes a vinha; o espólio do pobre está em vossas casas.

Jehovah into judgment doth enter With elders of His people, and its heads: `And ye, ye have consumed the vineyard, Plunder of the poor in your houses.

15 Q ue quereis vós, que esmagais o meu povo e moeis o rosto do pobre? diz o Senhor Deus dos exércitos.

What -- to you? ye bruise My people, And the faces of the poor ye grind.' An affirmation of the Lord, Jehovah of Hosts, And Jehovah saith:

16 D iz ainda mais o Senhor: Porquanto as filhas de Sião são altivas, e andam de pescoço emproado, lançando olhares impudentes; e, ao andarem, vão de passos curtos, fazendo tinir os ornamentos dos seus pés;

`Because that daughters of Zion have been haughty, And they walk stretching out the neck, And deceiving the eyes, Walking and mincing they go, And with their feet they make a tinkling,

17 o Senhor fará tinhosa a cabeça das filhas de Sião, e o Senhor porá a descoberto a sua nudez.

The Lord also hath scabbed The crown of the head of daughters of Zion, And Jehovah their simplicity exposeth.

18 N aquele dia lhes trará o Senhor o ornamento dos pés, e as coifas, e as luetas;

In that day doth the Lord turn aside The beauty of the tinkling ornaments, And of the embroidered works, And of the round tires like moons,

19 o s pendentes, e os braceletes, e os véus;

Of the drops, and the bracelets, and the mufflers,

20 o s diademas, as cadeias dos artelhos, os cintos, as caixinhas de perfumes e os amuletos;

Of the bonnets, and the ornaments of the legs, And of the bands, And of the perfume boxes, and the amulets,

21 o s anéis, e as jóias pendentes do nariz;

Of the seals, and of the nose-rings,

22 o s vestidos de festa, e os mantos, e os xales, e os bolsos;

Of the costly apparel, and of the mantles, And of the coverings, and of the purses,

23 o s vestidos diáfanos, e as capinhas de linho, e os turbantes, e os véus.

Of the mirrors, and of the linen garments, And of the hoods, and of the vails,

24 E será que em lugar de perfume haverá mau cheiro, e por cinto, uma corda; em lugar de encrespadura de cabelos, calvície; e em lugar de veste luxuosa, cinto de cilício; e queimadura em lugar de formosura.

And it hath been, instead of spice is muck, And instead of a girdle, a rope, And instead of curled work, baldness, And instead of a stomacher a girdle of sackcloth.

25 T eus varões cairão ã espada, e teus valentes na guerra.

For instead of glory, thy men by sword do fall, And thy might in battle.

26 E as portas da cidade gemerão e se carpirão e, desolada, ela se sentará no pó.

And lamented and mourned have her openings, Yea, she hath been emptied, on the earth she sitteth!
