1 Q uando Israel era menino, eu o amei, e do Egito chamei a meu filho.

Because Israel a youth, and I love him, Out of Egypt I have called for My Son.

2 Q uanto mais eu os chamava, tanto mais se afastavam de mim; sacrificavam aos baalins, e queimavam incenso

They have called to them rightly, They have gone from before them, To lords they do sacrifice, And to graven images they make perfume.

3 T odavia, eu ensinei aos de Efraim a andar; tomei-os nos meus braços; mas não entendiam que eu os curava.

And I have caused Ephraim to go on foot, Taking them by their arms, And they have not known that I strengthened them.

4 A traí-os com cordas humanas, com laços de amor; e fui para eles como os que tiram o jugo de sobre as suas queixadas, e me inclinei para lhes dar de comer.

With cords of man I do draw them, With thick cords of love, And I am to them as a raiser up of a yoke on their jaws, And I incline unto him -- I feed.

5 N ão voltarão para a terra do Egito; mas a Assíria será seu rei; porque recusam converter-se.

He turneth not back unto the land of Egypt, And Asshur -- he his king, For they have refused to return.

6 C airá a espada sobre as suas cidades, e consumirá os seus ferrolhos; e os devorará nas suas fortalezas.

Grievous hath been the sword in his cities, And it hath ended his bars, and consumed -- from their own counsels.

7 P orque o meu povo é inclinado a desviar-se de mim; ainda que clamem ao Altíssimo, nenhum deles o exalta.

And My people are hanging in suspense, about My returning, And unto the Most High they do call, Together they exalt not.

8 C omo te deixaria, ó Efraim? como te entregaria, ó Israel? como te faria como Admá? ou como Zeboim? Está comovido em mim o meu coração, as minhas compaixões ã uma se acendem.

How do I give thee up, O Ephraim? Do I deliver thee up, O Israel? How do I make thee as Admah? Do I set thee as Zeboim? Turned in Me is My heart, kindled together have been My repentings.

9 N ão executarei o furor da minha ira; não voltarei para destruir a Efraim, porque eu sou Deus e não homem, o Santo no meio de ti; eu não virei com ira.

I do not the fierceness of My anger, I turn not back to destroy Ephraim, For God I, and not a man. In thy midst the Holy One, and I enter not in enmity,

10 A ndarão após o Senhor; ele bramará como leão; e, bramando ele, os filhos, tremendo, virão do ocidente.

After Jehovah they go -- as a lion He roareth, When He doth roar, then tremble do the sons from the west.

11 T ambém, tremendo, virão como um passarinho os do Egito, e como uma pomba os da terra da Assíria; e os farei habitar em suas casas, diz o Senhor.

They tremble as a sparrow out of Egypt, And as a dove out of the land of Asshur, And I have caused them to dwell in their own houses, An affirmation of Jehovah.

12 E fraim me cercou com mentira, e a casa de Israel com engano; mas Judá ainda domina com Deus, e com o Santo está fiel.

Compassed Me with feigning hath Ephraim, And with deceit the house of Israel. And Judah again is ruling with God, And with the Holy Ones faithful!
