1 E lihu a luat din nou cuvîntul, şi a zis:

And Elihu answereth and saith:

2 A scultaţi, înţelepţilor, cuvintele mele! Luaţi aminte la mine, pricepuţilor!

Hear, O wise men, my words, And, O knowing ones, give ear to me.

3 C ăci urechea deosebeşte cuvintele, cum gustă cerul gurii bucatele.`

For the ear doth try words, And the palate tasteth to eat.

4 S ă alegem ce este drept, să vedem între noi ce este bun.

Judgment let us choose for ourselves, Let us know among ourselves what good.

5 I ov a zis:, Sînt nevinovat Şi Dumnezeu nu vrea să-mi dea dreptate;

For Job hath said, `I have been righteous, And God hath turned aside my right,

6 a m dreptate şi trec drept mincinos; rana mea este jalnică, şi sînt fără păcat.`

Against my right do I lie? Mortal mine arrow -- without transgression.'

7 E ste vreun om ca Iov, care să bea batjocura ca apa,

Who a man like Job? He drinketh scoffing like water,

8 c are să umble în tovărăşia celor ce fac rău, care să meargă mînă în mînă cu cei nelegiuiţi?

And he hath travelled for company With workers of iniquity, So as to go with men of wickedness.

9 C ăci el a zis:, Nu -i foloseşte nimic omului să-şi pună plăcerea în Dumnezeu.`

For he hath said, `It doth not profit a man, When he delighteth himself with God.'

10 A scultaţi-mă dar, oameni pricepuţi! Departe de Dumnezeu nedreptatea, departe de Cel Atotputernic fărădelegea!

Therefore, O men of heart, hearken to me; Far be it from God to do wickedness, And the Mighty to do perverseness:

11 E l dă omului după faptele lui, răsplăteşte fiecăruia după căile lui.

For the work of man he repayeth to him, And according to the path of each He doth cause him to find.

12 N u, negreşit, Dumnezeu nu săvîrşeşte fărădelegea; Cel Atotputernic nu calcă dreptatea.

Yea, truly, God doth not do wickedly, And the Mighty doth not pervert judgment.

13 C ine L -a însărcinat să cîrmuiască pămîntul? Cine I -a dat lumea în grija Lui?

Who hath inspected for Himself the earth? And who hath placed all the habitable world?

14 D acă nu s'ar gîndi decît la El, dacă Şi-ar lua înapoi duhul şi suflarea,

If He doth set on him His heart, His spirit and his breath unto Him He gathereth.

15 t ot ce este carne ar pieri deodată, şi omul s'ar întoarce în ţărînă.

Expire doth all flesh together, And man to dust returneth.

16 D acă ai pricepere, ascultă lucrul acesta, ia aminte la glasul cuvintelor mele!

And if understanding, hear this, Give ear to the voice of my words.

17 O are ar putea să domnească un vrăjmaş al dreptăţii? Şi vei osîndi tu pe Cel drept, pe Cel puternic,

Yea, doth one hating justice govern? Or the Most Just dost thou condemn?

18 c are strigă către împăraţi:, Netrebnicilor!` Şi către domnitori:, Nelegiuiţilor!`

Who hath said to a king -- `Worthless,' Unto princes -- `Wicked?'

19 C are nu caută la faţa celor mari, şi nu face deosebire între bogat şi sărac, pentrucă toţi sînt lucrarea mînilor Lui?

That hath not accepted the person of princes, Nor hath known the rich before the poor, For a work of His hands all of them.

20 Î ntr'o clipă, ei îşi pierd viaţa. La miezul nopţii, un popor se clatină şi piere. Cel puternic piere, fără amestecul mînii vreunui om.

a moment they die, and at midnight Shake do people, and they pass away, And they remove the mighty without hand.

21 C ăci Dumnezeu vede purtatea tuturor, priveşte paşii fiecăruia.

For His eyes on the ways of each, And all his steps He doth see.

22 N u este nici întunerec, nici umbră a morţii, unde să se poată ascunde cei ce fac fărădelegea.

There is no darkness nor death-shade, For workers of iniquity to be hidden there;

23 D umnezeu n'are nevoie să privească multă vreme, ca să tragă pe un om la judecată înaintea Lui.

For He doth not suffer man any more, To go unto God in judgment,

24 E l zdrobeşte pe cei mari fără cercetare, şi pune pe alţii în locul lor.

He breaketh the mighty -- no searching! And He appointeth others in their stead.

25 C ăci El cunoaşte faptele lor: noaptea îi răstoarnă, sînt zdrobiţi.

Therefore He knoweth their works, And He hath overturned by night, And they are bruised.

26 Î i loveşte ca pe nişte nelegiuiţi, în faţa tuturor.

As wicked He hath stricken them, In the place of beholders.

27 A bătîndu-se dela El, şi părăsindtoate căile Lui,

Because that against right They have turned aside from after Him, And none of His ways have considered wisely,

28 e i au făcut să se înalţe la Dumnezeu strigătul săracului. I-au îndreptat luarea aminte la strigătul celui nenorocit.

To cause to come in unto Him The cry of the poor, And the cry of the afflicted He heareth.

29 D acă dă El pace, cine poate s'o turbure? Dacă Îşi ascunde El Faţa, cine poate să -L vadă? La fel se poartă fie cu un popor, fie cu un om,

And He giveth rest, and who maketh wrong? And hideth the face, and who beholdeth it? And in reference to a nation and to a man, the same.

30 p entru ca nelegiuitul să nu mai stăpînească şi să nu mai fie o cursă pentru popor.

From the reigning of a profane man, From the snares of a people;

31 C ăci a zis el vreodată lui Dumnezeu:, Am fost pedepsit, nu voi mai păcătui;

For unto God hath any said: `I have taken away, I do not corruptly,

32 a rată-mi ce nu văd; dacă am făcut nedreptăţi, nu voi mai face?`

Besides I see, shew Thou me, If iniquity I have done -- I do not add?'

33 O are după părerea ta va face Dumnezeu dreptate? Tu lepezi, tu alegi, şi nu eu; Spune dar ce ştii!

By thee doth He recompense, That thou hast refused -- That thou dost choose, and not I? And what thou hast known, speak.

34 O amenii cu pricepere vor fi de părerea mea, înţeleptul care m'ascultă va gîndi ca mine:

Let men of heart say to me, And a wise man is hearkening to me.

35 I ov vorbeşte fără pricepere, şi cuvîntările lui sînt lipsite de judecată.

Job -- not with knowledge doth he speak, And his words not with wisdom.

36 S ă fie încercat dar mai departe, fiindcă răspunde ca cei răi!

My Father! let Job be tried -- unto victory, Because of answers for men of iniquity,

37 C ăci adaugă la greşelile lui păcate noi; bate din palme în mijlocul nostru, îşi înmulţeşte cuvintele împotriva lui Dumnezeu.``

For he doth add to his sin, Transgression among us he vomiteth, And multiplieth his sayings to God.
