1 I acov, rob al lui Dumnezeu şi al Domnului Isus Hristos, către cele douăsprezece seminţii cari sînt împrăştiate: sănătate!

James, of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ a servant, to the Twelve Tribes who are in the dispersion: Hail!

2 F raţii mei, să priviţi ca o mare bucurie cînd treceţi prin felurite încercări,

All joy count, my brethren, when ye may fall into temptations manifold;

3 c a unii cari ştiţi că încercarea credinţei voastre lucrează răbdare.

knowing that the proof of your faith doth work endurance,

4 D ar răbdarea trebuie să-şi facă desăvîrşit lucrarea, pentruca să fiţi desăvîrşiţi, întregi, şi să nu duceţi lipsă de nimic.

and let the endurance have a perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire -- in nothing lacking;

5 D acă vreunuia dintre voi îi lipseşte înţelepciunea, s'o ceară dela Dumnezeu, care dă tuturor cu mînă largă şi fără mustrare, şi ea îi va fi dată.

and if any of you do lack wisdom, let him ask from God, who is giving to all liberally, and not reproaching, and it shall be given to him;

6 D ar s'o ceară cu credinţă, fără să se îndoiască deloc: pentrucă cine se îndoieşte, seamănă cu valul mării, turburat şi împins de vînt încoace şi încolo.

and let him ask in faith, nothing doubting, for he who is doubting hath been like a wave of the sea, driven by wind and tossed,

7 U n astfel de om să nu se aştepte să primească ceva dela Domnul,

for let not that man suppose that he shall receive anything from the Lord --

8 c ăci este un om nehotărît şi nestatornic în toate căile sale.

a two-souled man unstable in all his ways.

9 F ratele dintr'o stare de jos să se laude cu înălţarea lui.

And let the brother who is low rejoice in his exaltation,

10 B ogatul, dimpotrivă, să se laude cu smerirea lui: căci va trece ca floarea ierbii.

and the rich in his becoming low, because as a flower of grass he shall pass away;

11 R ăsare soarele cu căldura lui arzătoare, şi usucă iarba: floarea ei cade jos, şi frumuseţea înfăţişării ei piere: aşa se va vesteji bogatul în umbletele lui.

for the sun did rise with the burning heat, and did wither the grass, and the flower of it fell, and the grace of its appearance did perish, so also the rich in his way shall fade away!

12 F erice de cel ce rabdă ispita. Căci dupăce a fost găsit bun, va primi cununa vieţii, pe care a făgăduit -o Dumnezeu celor ce -L iubesc.

Happy the man who doth endure temptation, because, becoming approved, he shall receive the crown of the life, which the Lord did promise to those loving Him.

13 N imeni, cînd este ispitit, să nu zică:,, Sînt ispitit de Dumnezeu``. Căci Dumnezeu nu poate fi ispitit ca să facă rău, şi El însuş nu ispiteşte pe nimeni.

Let no one say, being tempted -- `From God I am tempted,' for God is not tempted of evil, and Himself doth tempt no one,

14 C i fiecare este ispitit, cînd este atras de pofta lui însuş şi momit.

and each one is tempted, by his own desires being led away and enticed,

15 A poi pofta, cînd a zămislit, dă naştere păcatului; şi păcatul odată făptuit, aduce moartea.

afterward the desire having conceived, doth give birth to sin, and the sin having been perfected, doth bring forth death.

16 N u vă înşelaţi prea iubiţii mei fraţi:

Be not led astray, my brethren beloved;

17 o rice ni se dă bun şi orice dar desăvîrşit este de sus, pogorîndu-se dela Tatăl luminilor, în care nu este nici schimbare, nici umbră de mutare.

every good giving, and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the lights, with whom is no variation, or shadow of turning;

18 E l, de bună voia Lui, ne -a născut prin Cuvîntul adevărului, ca să fim un fel de pîrgă a făpturilor Lui.

having counselled, He did beget us with a word of truth, for our being a certain first-fruit of His creatures.

19 Ş tiţi bine lucrul acesta, prea iubiţii mei fraţi! Orice om să fie grabnic la ascultare, încet la vorbire, zăbavnic la mînie;

So then, my brethren beloved, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,

20 c ăci mînia omului nu lucrează neprihănirea lui Dumnezeu.

for the wrath of a man the righteousness of God doth not work;

21 D e aceea lepădaţi orice necurăţie şi orice revărsare de răutate şi primiţi cu blîndeţă Cuvîntul sădit în voi, care vă poate mîntui sufletele.

wherefore having put aside all filthiness and superabundance of evil, in meekness be receiving the engrafted word, that is able to save your souls;

22 F iţi împlinitori ai Cuvîntului, nu numai ascultători, înşelîndu-vă singuri.

and become ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves,

23 C ăci dacă ascultă cineva Cuvîntul, şi nu -l împlineşte cu fapta, seamănă cu un om, care îşi priveşte faţa firească într'o oglindă;

because, if any one is a hearer of the word and not a doer, this one hath been like to a man viewing his natural face in a mirror,

24 ş i, dupăce s'a privit, pleacă şi uită îndată cum era.

for he did view himself, and hath gone away, and immediately he did forget of what kind he was;

25 D ar cine îşi va adînci privirile în legea desăvîrşită, care este legea slobozeniei, şi va stărui în ea, nu ca un ascultător uituc, ci ca un împlinitor cu fapta, va fi fericit în lucrarea lui.

and he who did look into the perfect law -- that of liberty, and did continue there, this one -- not a forgetful hearer becoming, but a doer of work -- this one shall be happy in his doing.

26 D acă crede cineva că este religios, şi nu-şi înfrînează limba, ci îşi înşeală inima, religiunea unui astfel de om este zădarnică.

If any one doth think to be religious among you, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, of this one vain the religion;

27 R eligiunea curată şi neîntinată, înaintea lui Dumnezeu, Tatăl nostru, este să cercetăm pe orfani şi pe văduve în necazurile lor, şi să ne păzim neîntinaţi de lume.

religion pure and undefiled with the God and Father is this, to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation -- unspotted to keep himself from the world.
