1 M ai mult preţuieşte săracul, care umblă în neprihănirea lui, decît un bogat cu buze stricate şi nebun. -

Better the poor walking in his integrity, Than the perverse his lips, who a fool.

2 L ipsa de ştiinţă este o pagubă pentru cineva, şi cine aleargă neghiobeşte înainte, o nimereşte rău. -

Also, without knowledge the soul not good, And the hasty in feet is sinning.

3 N ebunia omului îi suceşte calea, şi apoi cîrteşte împotriva Domnului cu inima lui. -

The folly of man perverteth his way, And against Jehovah is his heart wroth.

4 B ogăţia aduce un mare număr de prieteni, dar săracul este părăsit de prietenul lui. -

Wealth addeth many friends, And the poor from his neighbour is separated.

5 M artorul mincinos nu rămîne nepedepsit, şi cel ce spune minciuni nu va scăpa. -

A false witness is not acquitted, Whoso breatheth out lies is not delivered.

6 O mul darnic are mulţi linguşitori, şi toţi sînt prieteni cu cel ce dă daruri. -

Many entreat the face of the noble, And all have made friendship to a man of gifts.

7 T oţi fraţii săracului îl urăsc; cu cît mai mult se depărtează prietenii lui de el! El se îndreaptă spre ei cu vorbe rugătoare, dar ei se fac nevăzuţi. -

All the brethren of the poor have hated him, Surely also his friends have been far from him, He is pursuing words -- they are not!

8 C ine capătă înţelepciune, îşi iubeşte sufletul; cine păstrează priceperea, găseşte fericirea. -

Whoso is getting heart is loving his soul, He is keeping understanding to find good.

9 M artorul mincinos nu rămîne nepedepsit, şi celce spune minciuni va pieri, -

A false witness is not acquitted, And whoso breatheth out lies perisheth.

10 U nui nebun nu -i şade bine să trăiască în desfătări, cu atît mai puţin unui rob să stăpînească peste voivozi. -

Luxury is not comely for a fool, Much less for a servant to rule among princes.

11 Î nţelepciunea face pe om răbdător, şi este o cinste pentru el să uite greşelile. -

The wisdom of a man hath deferred his anger, And his glory to pass over transgression.

12 M înia împăratului este ca răcnetul unui leu, şi bunăvoinţa lui este ca roua pe iarbă. -

The wrath of a king a growl as of a young lion, And as dew on the herb his good-will.

13 U n fiu nebun este o nenorocire pentru tatăl său, şi o nevastă gîlcevitoare este ca o straşină de pe care picură într'una. -

A calamity to his father a foolish son, And the contentions of a wife a continual dropping.

14 C asa şi averea le moştenim dela părinţi, dar o nevastă pricepută este un dar dela Domnul. -

House and wealth the inheritance of fathers, And from Jehovah an understanding wife.

15 L enea te cufundă într'un somn adînc, şi sufletul molatic sufere de foame. -

Sloth causeth deep sleep to fall, And an indolent soul doth hunger.

16 C ine păzeşte porunca, îşi păzeşte sufletul; cine nu veghează asupra căii sale, va muri. -

Whoso is keeping the command is keeping his soul, Whoso is despising His ways dieth.

17 C ine are milă de sărac, împrumută pe Domnul, şi El îi va răsplăti binefacerea. -

Whoso is lending Jehovah is favouring the poor, And his deed He repayeth to him.

18 P edepseşte-ţi fiul, căci tot mai este nădejde, dar nu dori să -l omori. -

Chastise thy son, for there is hope, And to put him to death lift not up thy soul.

19 C el pe care -l apucă mînia trebuie să-şi ia pedeapsa; căci dacă -l scoţi din ea, va trebui să mai faci odată lucrul acesta. -

A man of great wrath is bearing punishment, For, if thou dost deliver, yet again thou dost add.

20 A scultă sfaturile, şi primeşte învăţătura, ca să fii înţelept pe viitor! -

Hear counsel and receive instruction, So that thou art wise in thy latter end.

21 O mul face multe planuri în inima lui, dar hotărîrea Domnului, aceea se împlineşte. -

Many the purposes in a man's heart, And the counsel of Jehovah it standeth.

22 C eeace face farmecul unui om este bunătatea lui; şi mai mult preţuieşte un sărac decît nu mincinos. -

The desirableness of a man his kindness, And better the poor than a liar.

23 F rica de Domnul duce la viaţă, şi celce o are, petrece noaptea sătul, fără să fie cercetat de nenorocire. -

The fear of Jehovah to life, And satisfied he remaineth -- he is not charged with evil.

24 L eneşul îşi vîră mîna în strachină, şi n'o duce înapoi la gură. -

The slothful hath hidden his hand in a dish, Even unto his mouth he bringeth it not back.

25 L oveşte pe batjocoritor, şi prostul se va face înţelept; mustră... pe omul priceput, şi va înţelege ştiinţa. -

A scorner smite, and the simple acts prudently, And give reproof to the intelligent, He understandeth knowledge.

26 C ine jăfuieşte pe tatăl său şi izgoneşte pe mamă-sa, este un fiu care aduce ruşine şi ocară. -

Whoso is spoiling a father causeth a mother to flee, A son causing shame, and bringing confusion.

27 Î ncetează, fiule, să mai asculţi învăţătura, dacă ea te depărtează de învăţăturile înţelepte. -

Cease, my son, to hear instruction -- To err from sayings of knowledge.

28 U n martor stricat îşi bate joc de dreptate, şi gura celor răi înghite nelegiuirea. -

A worthless witness scorneth judgment, And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity.

29 P edepsele sînt pregătite pentru batjocoritori, şi loviturile pentru spinările nebunilor.

Judgments have been prepared for scorners, And stripes for the back of fools!
