1 C opiii lui Israel au făcut iarăş ce nu plăcea Domnului; şi Domnul i -a dat în mînile Filistenilor, timp de patruzeci de ani.

And the sons of Israel add to do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.

2 E ra un om în Ţorea, din familia Daniţilor, care se chema Manoah. Nevastă-sa era stearpă, şi nu năştea.

And there is a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danite, and his name Manoah, his wife barren, and hath not borne;

3 Î ngerul Domnului S'a arătat femeii, şi i -a zis:,, Iată că tu eşti stearpă, şi n'ai copii; dar vei rămînea însărcinată, şi vei naşte un fiu.

and a messenger of Jehovah appeareth unto the woman, and saith unto her, `Lo, I pray thee, thou barren, and hast not borne; when thou hast conceived, then thou hast borne a son.

4 A cum ia bine seama, să nu bei nici vin, nici băutură tare, şi să nu mănînci nimic necurat.

And, now, take heed, I pray thee, and do not drink wine, and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing,

5 C ăci vei rămînea însărcinată, şi vei naşte un fiu. Briciul nu va trece peste capul lui, pentrucă acest copil va fi închinat lui Dumnezeu din pîntecele mamei lui; şi el va începe să izbăvească pe Israel din mîna Filistenilor.``

for, lo, thou art conceiving and bearing a son, and a razor doth not go up on his head, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb, and he doth begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.'

6 F emeia s'a dus şi a spus bărbatului ei:,, Un om al lui Dumnezeu a venit la mine, şi avea înfăţişarea unui înger al lui Dumnezeu, o înfăţişare înfricoşată. Nu l-am întrebat de unde este, şi nici nu mi -a spus care -i este numele.

And the woman cometh and speaketh to her husband, saying, `A man of God hath come unto me, and his appearance as the appearance of a messenger of God, very fearful, and I have not asked him whence he, and his name he hath not declared to me;

7 D ar mi -a zis:,, Tu vei rămînea însărcinată, şi vei naşte un fiu; şi acum să nu bei nici vin nici băutură tare, şi să nu mănînci nimic necurat, pentrucă acest copil va fi închinat lui Dumnezeu din pîntecele maicii lui, pînă în ziua morţii lui``.

and he saith to me, Lo, thou art pregnant, and bearing a son, and now do not drink wine and strong drink, and do not eat any unclean thing, for a Nazarite to God is the youth from the womb till the day of his death.'

8 M anoah a făcut Domnului următoarea rugăciune:,, Doamne, Te rog, să mai vină odată la noi omul lui Dumnezeu pe care l-ai trimes, şi să ne înveţe ce să facem pentru copilul care se va naşte!``

And Manoah maketh entreaty unto Jehovah, and saith, `O, my Lord, the man of God whom Thou didst send, let him come in, I pray thee, again unto us, and direct us what we do to the youth who is born.'

9 D umnezeu a ascultat rugăciunea lui Manoah, şi Îngerul lui Dumnezeu a venit iarăş la femeie. Ea şedea într'un ogor, şi Manoah, bărbatul ei, nu era cu ea.

And God hearkeneth to the voice of Manoah, and the messenger of God cometh again unto the woman, and she sitting in a field, and Manoah her husband is not with her,

10 E a a alergat repede să dea de veste bărbatului ei, şi i -a zis:,, Iată că omul care venise în cealaltă zi la mine, mi s'a arătat iarăş``.

and the woman hasteth, and runneth, and declareth to her husband, and saith unto him, `Lo, he hath appeared unto me -- the man who came on day unto me.'

11 M anoah s'a sculat, a mers după nevastă-sa, s'a dus la omul acela, şi i -a zis:,, Tu ai vorbit femeii acesteia?`` El a răspuns:,, Eu``.

And Manoah riseth, and goeth after his wife, and cometh unto the man, and saith to him, `Art thou the man who spake unto the woman?' and he saith, `I.'

12 M anoah a zis:,, Acum, dacă se va împlini cuvîntul Tău, ce va trebui să păzim cu privire la copil, şi ce va fi de făcut?``

And Manoah saith, `Now let thy words come to pass; what is the custom of the youth -- and his work?'

13 Î ngerul Domnului a răspuns lui Manoah:,, Femeia să se ferească de tot ce i-am spus.

And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `Of all that I said unto the woman let her take heed;

14 S ă nu guste niciun rod din viţă, să nu bea nici vin, nici băutură tare, şi să nu mănînce nimic necurat; să păzească tot ce i-am poruncit.``

of anything which cometh out from the wine-vine she doth not eat, and wine and strong drink she doth not drink, and any unclean thing she doth not eat; all that I have commanded her she doth observe.'

15 M anoah a zis Îngerului Domnului:,,Îngăduieşte-mi să Te opresc, şi să-Ţi pregătesc un ied``.

And Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `Let us detain thee, we pray thee, and prepare before thee a kid of the goats.'

16 Î ngerul Domnului a răspuns lui Manoah:,, Chiar dacă M'ai opri, n'aş mînca din bucatele tale; dar dacă vrei să aduci o ardere de tot, s'o aduci Domnului``. Manoah nu ştia că este Îngerul Domnului.

And the messenger of Jehovah saith unto Manoah, `If thou detain me -- I do not eat of thy bread; and if thou prepare a burnt-offering -- to Jehovah thou dost offer it;' for Manoah hath not known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

17 Ş i Manoah a zis Îngerului Domnului:,, Care-Ţi este numele, ca să-Ţi aducem slavă, cînd se va împlini cuvîntul Tău?``

And Manoah saith unto the messenger of Jehovah, `What thy name? when thy words come to pass, then we have honoured thee.'

18 Î ngerul Domnului i -a răspuns:,, Pentruce Îmi ceri Numele? El este minunat.``

And the messenger of Jehovah saith to him, `Why this -- thou dost ask for My name? -- and it Wonderful.'

19 M anoah a luat iedul şi darul de mîncare, şi a adus jertfă Domnului pe stîncă. S'a făcut o minune, în timp ce Manoah şi nevastă-sa priveau.

And Manoah taketh the kid of the goats, and the present, and offereth on the rock to Jehovah, and He is doing wonderfully, and Manoah and his wife are looking on,

20 P e cînd flacăra se suia de pe altar spre cer, Îngerul Domnului S'a suit în flacăra altarului. Văzînd lucrul acesta, Manoah şi nevastă-sa au căzut cu faţa la pămînt.

and it cometh to pass, in the going up of the flame from off the altar toward the heavens, that the messenger of Jehovah goeth up in the flame of the altar, and Manoah and his wife are looking on, and they fall on their faces to the earth,

21 Î ngerul Domnului nu S'a mai arătat lui Manoah şi nevestei lui. Atunci Manoah a înţeles că este Îngerul Domnului,

and the messenger of Jehovah hath not added again to appear unto Manoah, and unto his wife, then hath Manoah known that He a messenger of Jehovah.

22 ş i a zis nevestei sale:,, Vom muri, căci am văzut pe Dumnezeu.``

And Manoah saith unto his wife, `We certainly die, for we have seen God.'

23 N evastă-sa i -a răspuns:,, Dacă ar fi vrut Domnul să ne omoare, n'ar fi primit din mînile noastre arderea de tot şi darul de mîncare, nu ne-ar fi arătat toate acestea, şi nu ne-ar fi făcut să auzim acum asemenea lucruri``.

And his wife saith to him, `If Jehovah were desirous to put us to death, He had not received from our hands burnt-offering and present, nor shewed us all these things, nor as time caused us to hear like this.'

24 F emeia a născut un fiu, şi i -a pus numele Samson. Copilul a crescut, şi Domnul l -a binecuvîntat.

And the woman beareth a son, and calleth his name Samson, and the youth groweth, and Jehovah doth bless him,

25 Ş i Duhul Domnului a început să -l mişte la Mahane-Dan, între Ţorea şi Eştaol.

and the Spirit of Jehovah beginneth to move him in the camp of Dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
