1 S ă păziţi şi să împliniţi toate poruncile pe cari vi le dau astăzi, ca să trăiţi, să vă înmulţiţi, şi să intraţi în stăpînirea ţării pe care a jurat Domnul că o va da părinţilor voştri.

`All the command which I am commanding thee to-day ye observe to do, so that ye live, and have multiplied, and gone in, and possessed the land which Jehovah hath sworn to your fathers;

2 A du-ţi aminte de tot drumul pe care te -a călăuzit Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, în timpul acestor patruzeci de ani în pustie, ca să te smerească şi să te încerce, ca să-ţi cunoască pornirile inimii şi să vadă dacă ai să păzeşti sau nu poruncile Lui.

and thou hast remembered all the way which Jehovah thy God hath caused thee to go these forty years in the wilderness, in order to humble thee to try thee, to know that which in thy heart, whether thou dost keep His commands or not.

3 A stfel, te -a smerit, te -a lăsat să suferi de foame, şi te -a hrănit cu mană, pe care nici tu n'o cunoşteai şi nici părinţii tăi n'o cunoscuseră, ca să te înveţe că omul nu trăieşte numai cu pîne, ci cu orice lucru care iese din gura Domnului trăieşte omul.

`And He doth humble thee, and cause thee to hunger and doth cause thee to eat the manna (which thou hast not known, even thy fathers have not known), in order to cause thee to know that not by bread alone doth man live, but by every produce of the mouth of Jehovah man doth live.

4 H aina nu ţi s'a învechit pe tine, şi nici nu ţi s'au umflat picioarele, în timpul acestor patruzeci de ani.

`Thy raiment hath not worn out from off thee, and thy foot hath not swelled these forty years,

5 R ecunoaşte dar în inima ta că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te mustră cum mustră un om pe copilul lui.

and thou hast known, with thy heart, that as a man chastiseth his son Jehovah thy God is chastising thee,

6 S ă păzeşti poruncile Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, ca să umbli în căile Lui, şi să te temi de El.

and thou hast kept the commands of Jehovah thy God, to walk in His ways, and to fear Him.

7 C ăci Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, are să te ducă într'o ţară bună, ţară cu pîraie de apă, cu izvoare şi cu lacuri, cari ţîsnesc din văi şi munţi;

`For Jehovah thy God is bringing thee in unto a good land, a land of brooks of waters, of fountains, and of depths coming out in valley and in mountain:

8 ţ ară cu grîu, cu orz, cu vii, cu smochini şi cu rodii; ţară cu măslini şi cu miere;

a land of wheat, and barley, and vine, and fig, and pomegranate; a land of oil olive and honey;

9 ţ ară unde vei mînca pîne din belşug, unde nu vei duce lipsă de nimic; ţară, ale cărei petre sînt de fer, şi din ai cărei munţi vei scoate aramă.

a land in which without scarcity thou dost eat bread, thou dost not lack anything in it; a land whose stones iron, and out of its mountains thou dost dig brass;

10 C înd vei mînca şi te vei sătura, să binecuvîntezi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, pentru ţara cea bună pe care ţi -a dat -o.

and thou hast eaten, and been satisfied, and hast blessed Jehovah thy God, on the good land which he hath given to thee.

11 V ezi să nu uiţi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, pînă acolo încît să nu păzeşti poruncile, rînduielile şi legile Lui, pe cari ţi le dau azi.

`Take heed to thyself, lest thou forget Jehovah thy God so as not to keep His commands, and His judgments, and His statutes which I am commanding thee to-day;

12 C înd vei mînca şi te vei sătura, cînd vei zidi şi vei locui în case frumoase,

lest thou eat, and hast been satisfied, and good houses dost build, and hast inhabited;

13 c înd vei vedea înmulţindu-ţi-se cirezile de boi şi turmele de oi, mărindu-ţi-se argintul şi aurul, şi crescîndu-ţi tot ce ai,

and thy herd and thy flock be multiplied, and silver and gold be multiplied to thee; and all that is thine be multiplied:

14 i a seama să nu ţi se umfle inima de mîndrie şi să nu uiţi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, care te -a scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa robiei;

`And thy heart hath been high, and thou hast forgotten Jehovah thy God (who is bringing thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants;

15 c are te -a dus în acea pustie mare şi grozavă, unde erau şerpi înfocaţi şi scorpioni, în locuri uscate şi fără apă, care a făcut să-ţi ţîşnească apă din stînca cea mai tare,

who is causing thee to go in the great and the terrible wilderness -- burning serpent, and scorpion, and thirst -- where there is no water; who is bringing out to thee waters from the flinty rock;

16 ş i care ţi -a dat să mănînci în pustie mana aceea necunoscută de părinţii tăi, ca să te smerească şi să te încerce, şi să-ţi facă bine apoi.

who is causing thee to eat manna in the wilderness, which thy fathers have not known, in order to humble thee, and in order to try thee, to do thee good in thy latter end),

17 V ezi să nu zici în inima ta:,, Tăria mea şi puterea mînii mele mi-au cîştigat aceste bogăţii.``

and thou hast said in thy heart, My power, and the might of my hand, hath made for me this wealth:

18 C i adu-ţi aminte de Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, căci El îţi va da putere să le cîştigi, ca să întărească legămîntul încheiat cu părinţii voştri prin jurămînt, cum face astăzi.

`And thou hast remembered Jehovah thy God, for He it who is giving to thee power to make wealth, in order to establish His covenant which He hath sworn to thy fathers as this day.

19 D acă vei uita pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi vei merge după alţi dumnezei, dacă le vei sluji şi te vei închina înaintea lor, vă spun hotărît azi că veţi peri.

`And it hath been -- if thou really forget Jehovah thy God, and hast gone after other gods, and served them, and bowed thyself to them, I have testified against you to-day that ye do utterly perish;

20 V eţi peri ca şi neamurile pe cari le -a pierdut Domnul dinaintea voastră, pentrucă nu veţi asculta glasul Domnului, Dumnzeului vostru.

as the nations whom Jehovah is destroying from your presence, so ye perish; because ye hearken not to the voice of Jehovah your God.
