1 Î mpăratul Iosia a strîns la el pe toţi bătrînii lui Iuda şi ai Ierusalimului.

And the king sendeth, and they gather unto him all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem,

2 A poi s'a suit în Casa Domnului, cu toţi bărbaţii lui Iuda şi cu toţi locuitorii Ierusalimului, preoţii, proorocii, şi tot poporul, dela cel mai mic pînă la cel mai mare. A citit înaintea lor toate cuvintele din cartea legămîntului, pe care o găsiseră în Casa Domnului.

and the king goeth up to the house of Jehovah, and every man of Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, from small unto great, and he readeth in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that is found in the house of Jehovah.

3 Î mpăratul stătea pe scaunul lui împărătesc, şi a făcut legămînt înaintea Domnului, îndatorindu-se să urmeze pe Domnul, şi să păzească poruncile, învăţăturile şi legile Lui, din toată inima şi din tot sufletul lui, ca să împlinească astfel cuvintele legămîntului acestuia, scrise în cartea aceasta. Şi tot poporul a intrat în legămînt.

And the king standeth by the pillar, and maketh the covenant before Jehovah, to walk after Jehovah, and to keep His commands, and His testimonies, and His statutes, with all the heart, and with all the soul, to establish the words of this covenant that are written on this book, and all the people stand in the covenant.

4 Î mpăratul a poruncit marelui preot Hilchia, preoţilor de al doilea rînd, şi celor ce păzeau pragul, să scoată din Templul Domnului toate sculele cari fuseseră făcute pentru Baal, pentru Astartea, şi pentru toată oştirea cerurilor; şi le -a ars afară din Ierusalim, în ogoarele Chedronului, şi a pus să le ducă cenuşa la Betel.

And the king commandeth Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out from the temple of Jehovah all the vessels that are made for Baal, and for the shrine, and for all the host of the heavens, and he burneth them at the outside of Jerusalem, in the fields of Kidron, and hath borne their ashes to Beth-El.

5 A izgonit pe preoţii idolilor, puşi de împăraţii lui Iuda să ardă tămîie pe înălţimi în cetăţile lui Iuda şi în împrejurimile Ierusalimului, şi pe cei ce aduceau tămîie lui Baal, soarelui, lunei, zodiilor şi întregei oştiri a cerurilor.

And he hath caused to cease the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah have appointed, (and they make perfume in high places, in cities of Judah and suburbs of Jerusalem,) and those making perfume to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the host of the heavens.

6 A scos din Casa Domnului idolul Astareteei, şi l -a dus afară din Ierusalim, la pîrîul Chedron; l -a ars la pîrîul Chedron şi l -a prefăcut în cenuşă, iar cenuşa i -a aruncat -o pe mormintele copiilor poporului.

And he bringeth out the shrine from the house of Jehovah to the outside of Jerusalem, unto the brook Kidron, and burneth it at the brook Kidron, and beateth it small to dust, and casteth its dust on the grave of the sons of the people.

7 A dărîmat casele sodomiţilor cari erau în Casa Domnului, şi unde femeile împleteau corturi pentru Astartea.

And he breaketh down the houses of the whoremongers that in the house of Jehovah, where the women are weaving houses for the shrine.

8 A adus pe toţi preoţii din cetăţile lui Iuda; a pîngărit înălţimile unde ardeau preoţii tămîie, dela Gheba pînă la Beer-Şeba; şi a dărîmat înălţimile de la porţi, cea care era la intrarea porţii lui Iosua, căpetenia cetăţii, şi cea care era la stînga porţii cetăţii.

And he bringeth in all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defileth the high places where the priests have made perfume, from Geba unto Beer-Sheba, and hath broken down the high places of the gates that at the opening of the gate of Joshua, head of the city, that on a man's left hand at the gate of the city;

9 T otuş, preoţii înălţimilor nu se suiau la altarul Domnului în Ierusalim, ci mîncau azime în mijlocul fraţilor lor.

only, the priests of the high places come not up unto the altar of Jehovah in Jerusalem, but they have eaten unleavened things in the midst of their brethren.

10 Î mpăratul a pîngărit Tofetul în valea fiilor lui Hinom, ca nimeni să nu-şi mai treacă fiul sau fiica prin foc în cinstea lui Moloh.

And he hath defiled Topheth, that in the valley of the son of Hinnom, so that no man doth cause his son and his daughter to pass over through fire to Molech.

11 A îndepărtat dela intrarea casei Domnului caii, pe cari împăraţii lui Iuda îi închinaseră soarelui, lîngă odaia dregătorului Netan-Melec, care locuia în mahala; şi a ars în foc carăle soarelui.

And he causeth to cease the horses that the kings of Judah have given to the sun from the entering in of the house of Jehovah, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech the eunuch, that in the suburbs, and the chariots of the sun he hath burnt with fire.

12 Î mpăratul a dărîmat altarele de pe acoperişul odăii de sus a lui Ahaz, pe cari le făcuseră împăraţii lui Iuda, şi altarele pe cari le făcuse Manase în cele două curţi ale Casei Domnului; după ce le -a sfărîmat şi le -a luat de acolo, le -a aruncat ţărîna în pîrîul Chedron.

And the altars that on the top of the upper chamber of Ahaz, that the kings of Judah made, and the altars that Manasseh made in the two courts of the house of Jehovah, hath the king broken down, and removeth thence, and hath cast their dust unto the brook Kidron.

13 Î mpăratul a pîngărit înălţimile cari erau în faţa Ierusalimului, pe partea dreaptă a muntelui Pierzării, şi pe cari le zidise Solomon, împăratul lui Israel, Astarteei, urîciunea Sidonienilor, lui Chemoş, urîciunea Moabului, şi lui Milcom, urîciunea fiilor lui Amon.

And the high places that on the front of Jerusalem, that on the right of the mount of corruption, that Solomon king of Israel had built to Ashtoreth abomination of the Zidonians, and Chemosh abomination of Moab, and to Milcom abomination of the sons of Ammon, hath the king defiled.

14 A sfărîmat stîlpii idoleşti şi a dărîmat Astarteele, şi locul lor l -a umplut cu oase omeneşti.

And he hath broken in pieces the standing-pillars, and cutteth down the shrines, and filleth their place with bones of men;

15 A dărîmat şi altarul de la Betel, şi înălţimea făcută de Ieroboam, fiul lui Nebat, care făcuse pe Israel să păcătuiască; a ars înălţimea şi a prefăcut -o în ţărînă, şi a ars idolul Astarteei.

and also the altar that in Beth-El, the high place that Jeroboam son of Nebat made, by which he made Israel sin, both that altar and the high place he hath broken down, and doth burn the high place -- he hath beat it small to dust, and hath burnt the shrine.

16 I osia, întorcîndu-se şi văzînd mormintele cari erau acolo în munte, a trimes să ia oasele din morminte, şi le -a ars pe altar şi l -a pîngărit, după cuvîntul Domnului, rostit prin omul lui Dumnezeu, care vestise aceste lucruri.

And Josiah turneth, and seeth the graves that there in the mount, and sendeth and taketh the bones out of the graves, and burneth on the altar, and defileth it, according to the word of Jehovah that the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

17 E l a zis:,, Ce este mormîntul acesta pe care -l văd?`` Oamenii din cetate i-au răspuns:,, Este mormîntul omului lui Dumnezeu, care a venit din Iuda, şi a strigat împotriva altarului din Betel lucrurile acestea pe cari le împlineşti tu.``

And he saith, `What this sign that I see?' and the men of the city say unto him, `The grave of the man of God who hath come from Judah, and proclaimeth these things that thou hast done concerning the altar of Beth-El.'

18 Ş i el a zis:,, Lăsaţi -l; nimeni să nu -i mişte oasele!`` Astfel, au păstrat oasele lui împreună cu ale proorocului care venise din Samaria.

And he saith, `Let him alone, let no man touch his bones;' and they let his bones escape, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

19 I osia a mai înlăturat toate templele idoleşti ale înălţimilor cari se aflau în cetăţile Samariei, şi pe cari le făcuseră împăraţii lui Israel ca să mînie pe Domnul; a făcut cu ele întocmai cum făcuse în Betel.

And also all the houses of the high places that in the cities of Samaria, that the kings of Israel made to provoke to anger, hath Josiah turned aside, and doth to them according to all the deeds that he did in Beth-El.

20 A junghiat pe altare pe toţi preoţii înălţimilor, cari erau acolo, şi a ars pe ele oase de oameni. Apoi s'a întors la Ierusalim.

And he slayeth all the priests of the high places who there by the altars, and burneth the bones of man upon them, and turneth back to Jerusalem.

21 Î mpăratul a dat următoarea poruncă întregului popor:,, Prăznuiţi Paştele în cinstea Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru, cum este scris în această carte a legămîntului.``

And the king commandeth the whole of the people, saying, `Make ye a passover to Jehovah your God, as it is written on this book of the covenant.'

22 P aşte ca acestea nu se prăznuiseră din vremea cînd judecau judecătorii pe Israel şi în tot timpul împăraţilor lui Israel şi împăraţilor lui Iuda.

Surely there hath not been made like this passover from the days of the judges who judged Israel, even all the days of the kings of Israel, and of the kings of Judah;

23 C i abia în al optsprezecelea an al împăratului Iosia s'au prăznuit aceste Paşte în cinstea Domnului, la Ierusalim.

but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, hath this passover been made to Jehovah in Jerusalem.

24 M ai mult, Iosia a stîrpit pe cei ce chemau duhurile, pe cei ce spuneau viitorul, terafimii, idolii, şi toate urîciunile cari se vedeau în ţara lui Iuda şi la Ierusalim, ca să împlinească astfel cuvintele legii, scrise în cartea pe care o găsise preotul Hilchia în Casa Domnului.

And also, those having familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah, and in Jerusalem, hath Josiah put away, in order to establish the words of the law that are written on the book that Hilkiah the priest hath found in the house of Jehovah.

25 Î nainte de Iosia, n'a fost niciun împărat care să se întoarcă la Domnul, ca el, din toată inima, din tot sufletul şi din toată puterea lui, întocmai după toată legea lui Moise; şi chiar după el, n'a fost niciunul ca el.

And like him there hath not been before him a king who turned back unto Jehovah with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses, and after him there hath none risen like him.

26 T otuş Domnul nu S'a întors din iuţimea mîniei Lui celei mari, de care era aprins împotriva lui Iuda, din pricina tuturor celor ce făcuse Manase ca să -L mînie.

Only, Jehovah hath not turned back from the fierceness of His great anger with which His anger burned against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh provoked him,

27 Ş i Domnul a zis:,, Voi lepăda şi pe Iuda dinaintea Mea, cum am lepădat pe Israel, şi voi lepăda cetatea aceasta a Ierusalimului, pe care o alesesem, şi casa despre care zisesem:, Acolo va fi Numele Meu.``

and Jehovah saith, `Also Judah I turn aside from my presence, as I turned Israel aside, and I have rejected this city that I have chosen -- Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, My name is there.'

28 C elelalte fapte ale lui Iosia, şi tot ce a făcut el, nu sînt scrise oare în cartea Cronicilor împăraţilor lui Iuda?

And the rest of the matters of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Judah?

29 P e vremea sa, Faraon Neco, împăratul Egiptului, s'a suit împotriva împăratului Asiriei, la rîul Eufratului. Împăratul Iosia i -a ieşit înainte; şi Faraon l -a omorît la Meghido, cum l -a văzut.

In his days hath Pharaoh-Nechoh king of Egypt come up against the king of Asshur, by the river Phrat, and king Josiah goeth out to meet him, and he putteth him to death in Megiddo, when he seeth him.

30 S lujitorii lui l-au luat mort într'un car; l-au adus din Meghido la Ierusalim, şi l-au îngropat în mormîntul său. Şi poporul ţării a luat pe Ioahaz, fiul lui Iosia: ei l-au uns, şi l-au făcut împărat în locul tatălui său.

And his servants cause him to ride dying from Megiddo, and bring him in to Jerusalem, and bury him in his own grave, and the people of the land take Jehoahaz son of Josiah, and anoint him, and cause him to reign instead of his father.

31 I oahaz avea douăzeci şi trei de ani cînd s'a făcut împărat, şi a domnit trei luni la Ierusalim. Mamă-sa se chema Hamutal, fata lui Ieremia, din Libna.

A son of twenty and three years Jehoahaz in his reigning, and three months he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Hamutal daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah,

32 E l a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, întocmai cum făcuseră părinţii lui.

and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers did,

33 F araon Neco l -a pus în lanţuri la Ribla, în ţara Hamatului, ca să nu mai domnească la Ierusalim; şi a pus asupra ţării o gloabă de o sută de talanţi de argint şi de un talant de aur.

and Pharaoh-Nechoh bindeth him in Riblah, in the land of Hamath, from reigning in Jerusalem, and he putteth a fine on the land -- a hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

34 Ş i Faraon Neco a pus împărat pe Eliachim, fiul lui Iosia, în locul tatălui său Iosia, şi i -a schimbat numele în Ioiachim. A luat pe Ioahaz, care a mers în Egipt şi a murit acolo.

And Pharaoh-Nechoh causeth Eliakim son of Josiah to reign instead of Josiah his father, and turneth his name to Jehoiakim, and Jehoahaz he hath taken away, and he cometh in to Egypt, and dieth there.

35 I oiachim a dat lui Faraon argintul şi aurul; dar a trebuit să pună bir asupra ţării ca să scoată argintul acesta, cerut de Faraon; a hotărît partea fiecăruia, şi a cerut dela poporul ţării argintul şi aurul pe care trebuia să -l dea lui Faraon Neco.

And the silver and the gold hath Jehoiakim given to Pharaoh; only he valued the land to give the silver by the command of Pharaoh; from each, according to his valuation, he exacted the silver and the gold, from the people of the land, to give to Pharaoh-Nechoh.

36 I oiachim avea douăzeci şi cinci de ani cînd a ajuns împărat, şi a domnit unsprezece ani la Ierusalim. Mamă-sa se chema Zebuda, fata lui Pedaia, din Ruma.

A son of twenty and five years Jehoiakim in his reigning, and eleven years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Zebudah daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah,

37 E l a făcut ce este rău înaintea Domnului, întocmai cum făcuseră părinţii săi.

and he doth the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his fathers did.
