1 A tunci Dumnezeu a rostit toate aceste cuvinte, şi a zis:

`And God speaketh all these words, saying,

2 E u sînt Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, care te -a scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa robiei.

I Jehovah thy God, who hath brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants.

3 S ă nu ai alţi dumnezei afară de Mine.

`Thou hast no other Gods before Me.

4 S ă nu-ţi faci chip cioplit, nici vreo înfăţişare a lucrurilor cari sînt sus în ceruri, sau jos pe pămînt, sau în apele mai de jos de cît pămîntul.

`Thou dost not make to thyself a graven image, or any likeness which in the heavens above, or which in the earth beneath, or which in the waters under the earth.

5 S ă nu te închini înaintea lor, şi să nu le slujeşti; căci Eu, Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, sînt un Dumnezeu gelos, care pedepsesc nelegiuirea părinţilor în copii pînă la al treilea şi la al patrulea neam al celor ce Mă urăsc,

Thou dost not bow thyself to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah thy God, a zealous God, charging iniquity of fathers on sons, on the third, and on the fourth, of those hating Me,

6 ş i Mă îndur pînă la al miilea neam de cei ce Mă iubesc şi păzesc poruncile Mele.

and doing kindness to thousands, of those loving Me and keeping My commands.

7 S ă nu iei în deşert Numele Domnului, Dumnezeului tău; căci Domnul nu va lăsa nepedepsit pe cel ce va lua în deşert Numele Lui.

`Thou dost not take up the name of Jehovah thy God for a vain thing, for Jehovah acquitteth not him who taketh up His name for a vain thing.

8 A du-ţi aminte de ziua de odihnă, ca s'o sfinţeşti.

`Remember the Sabbath-day to sanctify it;

9 S ă lucrezi şase zile, şi să-ţi faci lucrul tău.

six days thou dost labour, and hast done all thy work,

10 D ar ziua a şaptea este ziua de odihnă închinată Domnului, Dumnezeului tău: să nu faci nicio lucrare în ea, nici tu, nici fiul tău, nici fiica ta, nici robul tău, nici roaba ta, nici vita ta, nici străinul care este în casa ta.

and the seventh day a Sabbath to Jehovah thy God; thou dost not do any work, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, thy man-servant, and thy handmaid, and thy cattle, and thy sojourner who is within thy gates, --

11 C ăci în şase zile a făcut Domnul cerurile, pămîntul şi marea, şi tot ce este în ele, iar în ziua a şaptea S'a odihnit: de aceea a binecuvîntat Domnul ziua de odihnă şi a sfinţit -o.

for six days hath Jehovah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that in them, and resteth in the seventh day; therefore hath Jehovah blessed the Sabbath-day, and doth sanctify it.

12 C insteşte pe tatăl tău şi pe mama ta, pentruca să ţi se lungească zilele în ţara, pe care ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

`Honour thy father and thy mother, so that thy days are prolonged on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee.

13 S ă nu ucizi.

`Thou dost not murder.

14 S ă nu preacurveşti.

`Thou dost not commit adultery.

15 S ă nu furi.

`Thou dost not steal.

16 S ă nu mărturiseşti strîmb împotriva aproapelui tău.

`Thou dost not answer against thy neighbour a false testimony.

17 S ă nu pofteşti casa aproapelui tău; să nu pofteşti nevasta aproapelui tău, nici robul lui, nici roaba lui, nici boul lui, nici măgarul lui, nici vreun alt lucru, care este al aproapelui tău.

`Thou dost not desire the house of thy neighbour, thou dost not desire the wife of thy neighbour, or his man-servant, or his handmaid, or his ox, or his ass, or anything which thy neighbour's.'

18 T ot poporul auzea tunetele şi sunetul trîmbiţei şi vedea flacările muntelui, care fumega. La priveliştea aceasta, poporul tremura, şi stătea în depărtare.

And all the people are seeing the voices, and the flames, and the sound of the trumpet, and the mount smoking; and the people see, and move, and stand afar off,

19 E i au zis lui Moise:,, Vorbeşte-ne tu însuţi, şi te vom asculta: dar să nu ne mai vorbească Dumnezeu, ca să nu murim.``

and say unto Moses, `Speak thou with us, and we hear, and let not God speak with us, lest we die.'

20 M oise a zis poporului:,, Nu vă spăimîntaţi; căci Dumnezeu a venit tocmai ca să vă pună la încercare, şi ca să aveţi frica Lui înaintea ochilor voştri, pentru ca să nu păcătuiţi.``

And Moses saith unto the people, `Fear not, for to try you hath God come, and in order that His fear may be before your faces -- that ye sin not.'

21 P oporul stătea în depărtare; iar Moise s'a apropiat de norul în care era Dumnezeu.

And the people stand afar off, and Moses hath drawn nigh unto the thick darkness where God.

22 D omnul a zis lui Moise:,, Aşa să vorbeşti copiilor lui Israel:, Aţi văzut că v'am vorbit din ceruri.

And Jehovah saith unto Moses, `Thus dost thou say unto the sons of Israel: Ye -- ye have seen that from the heavens I have spoken with you;

23 S ă nu faceţi dumnezei de argint şi dumnezei de aur, ca să -i puneţi alături de Mine; să nu vă faceţi alţi dumnezei.

ye do not make with Me gods of silver, even gods of gold ye do not make to yourselves.

24 S ă-Mi ridici un altar de pămînt, pe care să-ţi aduci arderile-de-tot şi jertfele de mulţămire, oile şi boii. În orice loc în care Îmi voi aduce aminte de Numele Meu, voi veni la tine, şi te voi binecuvînta.

`An altar of earth thou dost make for Me, and thou hast sacrificed on it thy burnt-offerings and thy peace-offerings, thy flock and thy herd; in every place where I cause My name to be remembered I come in unto thee, and have blessed thee.

25 D acă-Mi vei ridica un altar de piatră, să nu -l zideşti din pietre cioplite; căci cum îţi vei pune dalta în piatră, o vei pîngări.

`And if an altar of stones thou dost make to Me, thou dost not build them of hewn work; when thy tool thou hast waved over it, then thou dost pollute it;

26 S ă nu te sui la altarul Meu pe trepte, ca să nu ţi se descopere goliciunea înaintea lui.``

neither dost thou go up by steps on Mine altar, that thy nakedness be not revealed upon it.
