1 « Ascultaţi cuvântul acesta, juncane din Başan, de pe muntele Samaria, voi, femeilor, care asupriţi pe sărmani, care zdrobiţi pe săraci şi ziceţi soţilor voştri: ‘Aduceţi-ne ceva de băut!’»

Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, Who in the mountain of Samaria, Who are oppressing the poor, Who are bruising the needy, Who are saying to their lords: `Bring in, and we do drink.'

2 S tăpânul Domn a jurat pe sfinţenia Sa astfel: «Iată vin zile pentru voi când vă vor trage cu cârlige, iar pe ultimele dintre voi – cu cârlige de pescuit.

Sworn hath the Lord Jehovah by His holiness, That lo, days are coming upon you, And he hath taken you away with hooks, And your posterity with fish-hooks.

3 V eţi ieşi prin spărturile zidului, fiecare drept înainte, şi veţi fi alungate în Harmon, zice Domnul.

And breaches ye go forth, A woman over-against her, And ye have cast down the high place, An affirmation of Jehovah.

4 D uceţi-vă la Betel şi păcătuiţi! Duceţi-vă la Ghilgal şi păcătuiţi şi mai mult! Aduceţi-vă dimineaţa jertfele şi daţi-vă zeciuielile la fiecare trei zile!

Enter ye Beth-El, and transgress, At Gilgal multiply transgression, And bring in every morning your sacrifices, Every third year your tithes.

5 A duceţi jertfă de mulţumire din pâine dospită şi lăudaţi-vă cu darurile de bunăvoie, trâmbiţaţi despre ele, căci aceasta vă place, israeliţilor, zice Stăpânul Domn. Eşecul Israelului în a învăţa prin disciplinare

And perfume with leaven a thank-offering, And proclaim willing gifts, sound ye! For so ye have loved, O sons of Israel, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.

6 P rin urmare, şi Eu v-am trimis foamete în toate cetăţile voastre şi am adus lipsă de pâine în toate locurile voastre. Dar tot nu v-aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.

And I also -- I have given to you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, And lack of bread in all your places, And ye have not turned back unto Me, an affirmation of Jehovah.

7 M ai mult, tot Eu am oprit ploaia pentru voi, când mai erau încă trei luni până la seceriş. Am dat ploaie peste o cetate, dar peste o alta n-am lăsat să plouă; peste un ogor a plouat, însă alt ogor nu a avut parte de ploaie şi s-a uscat.

And I also -- I have withheld from you the rain. While yet three months to harvest, And I have sent rain on one city, And on another city I do not send rain, One portion is rained on, And the portion on which it raineth not withereth.

8 D ouă-trei cetăţi s-au dus însetate la o alta ca să bea apă, dar nu s-au săturat. Cu toate acestea, nu v-aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.

And wandered have two or three cities, Unto the same city to drink water, And they are not satisfied, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

9 D e multe ori v-am lovit grădinile şi viile cu filoxera şi cu mana. Apoi lăcustele v-au devorat smochinii şi măslinii, dar tot nu v-aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.

I have smitten you with blasting and with mildew, The abundance of your gardens and of your vineyards, And of your figs, and of your olives, Eat doth the palmer-worm, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

10 A m trimis împotriva voastră molima, ca şi în Egipt. I-am ucis pe tinerii voştri cu sabia şi am tăiat caii voştri căzuţi ca pradă. Am ridicat duhoarea taberelor voastre până la nările voastre, dar tot nu v-aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.

I have sent among you pestilence by the way of Egypt, I have slain by sword your choice ones, With your captive horses, And I cause the stink of your camps to come up -- even into your nostrils, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

11 P e unii dintre voi i-am nimicit, cum a nimicit Dumnezeu Sodoma şi Gomora. Aţi ajuns ca tăciunele scos din jar, dar tot nu v-aţi întors la Mine, zice Domnul.

I have overturned among you, Like the overturn by God of Sodom and Gomorrah, And ye are as a brand delivered from a burning, And ye have not turned back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah.

12 D e aceea îţi voi face astfel, Israele, şi, pentru că îţi voi face astfel, pregăteşte-te să-L întâlneşti pe Dumnezeul tău, Israele!

Therefore, thus I do to thee, O Israel, at last, Because this I do to thee, Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

13 C ăci iată că El este Cel Ce a întocmit munţii, Cel Ce a creat vântul şi i-a descoperit omului gândul Său, Cel Ce a prefăcut răsăritul în întuneric şi Cel Ce umblă pe înălţimile pământului – Domnul, Dumnezeul Oştirilor, este Numele Său.»

For, lo, the former of mountains, and creator of wind, And the declarer to man what His thought, He is making dawn obscurity, And is treading on high places of earth, Jehovah, God of Hosts, His name!
