1 Î n Iconia, ei au intrat în sinagoga iudeilor şi au vorbit în aşa fel, încât o mare mulţime de iudei şi de greci au crezut.

And it came to pass in Iconium, that they did enter together into the synagogue of the Jews, and spake, so that there believed both of Jews and Greeks a great multitude;

2 Î nsă iudeii care n-au crezut au stârnit şi au înveninat sufletele neamurilor împotriva fraţilor.

and the unbelieving Jews did stir up and made evil the souls of the nations against the brethren;

3 T otuşi Pavel şi Barnabas au rămas mult timp acolo, vorbind cu îndrăzneală despre Domnul, Care adeverea Cuvântul harului Său, dând voie să se facă semne şi minuni prin mâinile lor.

long time, indeed, therefore, did they abide speaking boldly in the Lord, who is testifying to the word of His grace, and granting signs and wonders to come to pass through their hands.

4 M ulţimea din cetate s-a împărţit: unii erau cu iudeii, iar alţii erau cu apostolii.

And the multitude of the city was divided, and some were with the Jews, and some with the apostles,

5 N eamurile şi iudeii, împreună cu conducătorii lor, s-au înţeles să le facă rău şi să-i omoare cu pietre,

and when there was a purpose both of the nations and of the Jews with their rulers to use despitefully, and to stone them,

6 d ar Pavel şi Barnabas au înţeles lucrul acesta şi au fugit în cetăţile Licaoniei, Listra şi Derbe, şi în împrejurimi;

they having become aware, did flee to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra, and Derbe, and to the region round about,

7 ş i au vestit Evanghelia şi acolo. În Listra şi Derbe

and there they were proclaiming good news.

8 Î n Listra stătea un om neputincios, care nu umblase niciodată, fiind schilod încă din pântecele mamei lui.

And a certain man in Lystra, impotent in the feet, was sitting, being lame from the womb of his mother -- who never had walked,

9 E l îl asculta pe Pavel în timp ce vorbea. Pavel s-a uitat ţintă la el şi, văzând că are credinţă ca să fie vindecat,

this one was hearing Paul speaking, who, having stedfastly beheld him, and having seen that he hath faith to be saved,

10 i -a zis cu glas tare: „Ridică-te în picioare şi stai drept!“ El a sărit în sus şi a început să meargă.

said with a loud voice, `Stand up on thy feet upright;' and he was springing and walking,

11 C ând au văzut mulţimile ce a făcut Pavel, au strigat în limba licaoniană: „Zeii au coborât la noi în chip de oameni!“

and the multitudes having seen what Paul did, did lift up their voice, in the speech of Lycaonia, saying, `The gods, having become like men, did come down unto us;'

12 P e Barnabas îl numeau Zeus, iar pe Pavel – Hermes, pentru că el era cel ce mânuia cuvântul.

they were calling also Barnabas Zeus, and Paul Hermes, since he was the leader in speaking.

13 P reotul lui Zeus, al cărui templu era în faţa cetăţii, a adus boi şi ghirlande de flori la porţi şi, împreună cu mulţimile, voia să le aducă jertfă.

And the priest of the Zeus that is before their city, oxen and garlands unto the porches having brought, with the multitudes did wish to sacrifice,

14 C ând au auzit aceasta, apostolii Barnabas şi Pavel şi-au sfâşiat hainele şi s-au repezit afară, în mijlocul mulţimii, strigând:

and having heard, the apostles Barnabas and Paul, having rent their garments, did spring into the multitude, crying

15 „ Oamenilor, de ce faceţi aceste lucruri? Şi noi suntem oameni de aceeaşi natură ca şi voi! Noi vă vestim Evanghelia ca să vă întoarceţi de la aceste lucruri nefolositoare la Dumnezeul cel Viu, Care a făcut cerul, pământul, marea şi tot ce este în ele!

and saying, `Men, why these things do ye? and we are men like-affected with you, proclaiming good news to you, from these vanities to turn unto the living God, who made the heaven, and the earth, and the sea, and all the things in them;

16 Î n generaţiile trecute, El le-a lăsat pe toate neamurile să umble pe propriile lor căi,

who in the past generations did suffer all the nations to go on in their ways,

17 m ăcar că nu S-a lăsat fără mărturie în a face bine, dându-vă ploi din cer şi anotimpuri roditoare, săturându-vă de hrană şi umplându-vă inimile de bucurie!“

though, indeed, without witness He did not leave himself, doing good -- from heaven giving rains to us, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness;'

18 C hiar şi cu aceste cuvinte, cu greu au reuşit să împiedice mulţimile să le aducă jertfă.

and these things saying, scarcely did they restrain the multitudes from sacrificing to them.

19 N işte iudei din Antiohia şi din Iconia au venit şi au câştigat mulţimile de partea lor. Ei au aruncat cu pietre în Pavel şi apoi l-au târât afară din cetate, crezând că a murit.

And there came thither, from Antioch and Iconium, Jews, and they having persuaded the multitudes, and having stoned Paul, drew him outside of the city, having supposed him to be dead;

20 C ând l-au înconjurat însă ucenicii, Pavel s-a ridicat şi a intrat în cetate. A doua zi a plecat la Derbe împreună cu Barnabas. Întoarcerea în Antiohia Siriei

and the disciples having surrounded him, having risen he entered into the city, and on the morrow he went forth with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 D upă ce au vestit Evanghelia şi în cetatea aceea şi au făcut mulţi ucenici, s-au întors în Listra, în Iconia şi în Antiohia,

Having proclaimed good news also to that city, and having discipled many, they turned back to Lystra, and Iconium, and Antioch,

22 î ntărind sufletele ucenicilor, îndemnându-i să rămână în credinţă şi spunându-le: „Trebuie să trecem prin multe necazuri ca să intrăm în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.“

confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting to remain in the faith, and that through many tribulations it behoveth us to enter into the reign of God,

23 A u desemnat bătrâni în fiecare biserică şi, cu rugăciune şi post, i-au încredinţat Domnului în Care crezuseră.

and having appointed to them by vote elders in every assembly, having prayed with fastings, they commended them to the Lord in whom they had believed.

24 A u trecut prin Pisidia şi au venit în Pamfilia.

And having passed through Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia,

25 A poi au predicat Cuvântul în Perga, s-au coborât în Atalia,

and having spoken in Perga the word, they went down to Attalia,

26 i ar de acolo au plecat pe mare spre Antiohia, locul de unde fuseseră încredinţaţi harului lui Dumnezeu în vederea lucrării pe care o îndepliniseră.

and thence did sail to Antioch, whence they had been given by the grace of God for the work that they fulfilled;

27 C ând au ajuns, au adunat biserica şi le-au povestit tot ce făcuse Domnul cu ei şi cum deschisese El neamurilor uşa credinţei.

and having come and gathered together the assembly, they declared as many things as God did with them, and that He did open to the nations a door of faith;

28 Ş i au rămas mult timp acolo, cu ucenicii.

and they abode there not a little time with the disciples.
