1 S e apropia Sărbătoarea Azimelor, căreia i se spune şi „Paştele“.

And the feast of the unleavened food was coming nigh, that is called Passover,

2 C onducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii căutau o modalitate să-L omoare pe Isus, căci se temeau de popor.

and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they may take him up, for they were afraid of the people.

3 A tunci Satan a intrat în Iuda, numit „Iscarioteanul“, care era din numărul celor doisprezece.

And the Adversary entered into Judas, who is surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve,

4 A cesta s-a dus şi a discutat cu conducătorii preoţilor şi cu comandanţii gărzii Templului cum să-L dea pe mâna lor.

and he, having gone away, spake with the chief priests and the magistrates, how he might deliver him up to them,

5 E i s-au bucurat şi au stabilit să-i dea bani.

and they rejoiced, and covenanted to give him money,

6 E l a fost de acord şi a început să caute un prilej ca să-L dea pe mâna lor, în absenţa mulţimii. Masa pascală

and he agreed, and was seeking a favourable season to deliver him up to them without tumult.

7 A poi a venit ziua Sărbătorii Azimelor, zi în care trebuia să fie jertfit mielul de Paşte.

And the day of the unleavened food came, in which it was behoving the passover to be sacrificed,

8 I sus i-a trimis pe Petru şi pe Ioan înainte şi le-a zis: – Duceţi-vă şi pregătiţi-ne mielul de Paşte ca să mâncăm!

and he sent Peter and John, saying, `Having gone on, prepare to us the passover, that we may eat;'

9 E i L-au întrebat: – Unde vrei să -l pregătim?

and they said to him, `Where wilt thou that we might prepare?'

10 I sus le-a răspuns: – Iată, când veţi intra în cetate, vă va întâlni un om care duce un vas cu apă. Urmaţi-l până la casa în care va intra

And he said to them, `Lo, in your entering into the city, there shall meet you a man, bearing a pitcher of water, follow him to the house where he doth go in,

11 ş i spuneţi-i stăpânului casei astfel: „Învăţătorul te întreabă: «Unde este camera de oaspeţi în care urmează să mănânc mielul de Paşte împreună cu ucenicii Mei?»“

and ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where the passover with my disciples I may eat?

12 E l vă va arăta sus o cameră mare şi aranjată. Acolo să faceţi pregătirile!

and he shall show you a large upper room furnished, there make ready;'

13 E i s-au dus şi au găsit totul aşa cum le spusese Isus; şi au pregătit mielul de Paşte. Cina Domnului

and they, having gone away, found as he hath said to them, and they made ready the passover.

14 C ând a sosit ceasul, Isus S-a aşezat la masă împreună cu apostolii.

And when the hour come, he reclined (at meat), and the twelve apostles with him,

15 E l le-a zis: „Am dorit mult să mănânc împreună cu voi această masă de Paşte, înainte de suferinţa Mea!

and he said unto them, `With desire I did desire to eat this passover with you before my suffering,

16 C ăci vă spun că nu voi mai mânca din ea până când nu îşi va găsi împlinirea în Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu!“

for I say to you, that no more may I eat of it till it may be fulfilled in the reign of God.'

17 A luat apoi un pahar, a adus mulţumiri şi a zis: „Luaţi-l şi împărţiţi-l între voi!

And having taken a cup, having given thanks, he said, `Take this and divide to yourselves,

18 C ăci vă spun că, de acum încolo, nu voi mai bea din rodul viţei până când va veni Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu.“

for I say to you that I may not drink of the produce of the vine till the reign of God may come.'

19 A poi a luat o pâine şi, după ce a adus mulţumiri, a frânt-o şi le-a dat-o zicând: „Acesta este trupul Meu, care se dă pentru voi; să faceţi lucrul acesta în amintirea Mea!“

And having taken bread, having given thanks, he brake and gave to them, saying, `This is my body, that for you is being given, this do ye -- to remembrance of me.'

20 Î n acelaşi fel, după ce au mâncat, a luat paharul şi a zis: „Acest pahar este Legământul cel Nou în sângele Meu, care se varsă pentru voi.

In like manner, also, the cup after the supping, saying, `This cup the new covenant in my blood, that for you is being poured forth.

21 D ar iată că mâna trădătorului Meu este cu Mine la masă!

`But, lo, the hand of him delivering me up with me on the table,

22 C ăci într-adevăr, Fiul Omului Se duce după cum a fost hotărât, dar vai de omul acela prin care El este trădat!“

and indeed the Son of Man doth go according to what hath been determined; but wo to that man through whom he is being delivered up.'

23 E i au început să se întrebe unii pe alţii cine să fie oare acela dintre ei care urmează să facă lucrul acesta. Cine este cel mai mare

And they began to reason among themselves, who then of them it may be, who is about to do this thing.

24 Î ntre ei s-a iscat şi o ceartă cu privire la care dintre ei ar trebui să fie considerat cel mai mare.

And there happened also a strife among them -- who of them is accounted to be greater.

25 I sus însă le-a zis: – Regii neamurilor stăpânesc peste ele, iar cei ce au autoritate asupra lor sunt numiţi „binefăcători“.

And he said to them, `The kings of the nations do exercise lordship over them, and those exercising authority upon them are called benefactors;

26 C u voi să nu fie aşa! Ci cel mai mare dintre voi să devină ca cel mai mic, iar cel care conduce să fie ca cel care slujeşte.

but ye not so, but he who is greater among you -- let him be as the younger; and he who is leading, as he who is ministering;

27 C ăci cine este mai mare, cel care stă la masă sau cel care slujeşte? Oare nu cel care stă la masă? Eu însă sunt între voi ca cel care slujeşte!

for who is greater? he who is reclining (at meat), or he who is ministering? is it not he who is reclining (at meat)? and I -- I am in your midst as he who is ministering.

28 V oi sunteţi cei care aţi rămas cu Mine în încercările Mele.

`And ye -- ye are those who have remained with me in my temptations,

29 D e aceea şi Eu vă ofer o împărăţie, aşa cum şi Tatăl Meu Mi-a oferit-o Mie,

and I appoint to you, as my Father did appoint to me, a kingdom,

30 c a să mâncaţi şi să beţi la masa Mea, în Împărăţia Mea, şi să staţi pe tronuri judecând cele douăsprezece seminţii ale lui Israel. Isus prezice lepădarea lui Petru

that ye may eat and may drink at my table, in my kingdom, and may sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.'

31 S imon, Simon, iată, Satan a cerut să vă cearnă aşa cum se cerne grâul,

And the Lord said, `Simon, Simon, lo, the Adversary did ask you for himself to sift as the wheat,

32 d ar Eu m-am rugat pentru tine, ca să nu ţi se piardă credinţa. Iar când te vei întoarce, întăreşte-i pe fraţii tăi!

and I besought for thee, that thy faith may not fail; and thou, when thou didst turn, strengthen thy brethren.'

33 P etru I-a răspuns: – Doamne, sunt gata să merg cu Tine chiar şi la închisoare şi la moarte!

And he said to him, `Sir, with thee I am ready both to prison and to death to go;'

34 I sus i-a zis: – Îţi spun, Petru, că nu va cânta cocoşul astăzi până când nu te vei lepăda de trei ori că nu Mă cunoşti! Îndemnuri pentru vremea încercării

and he said, `I say to thee, Peter, a cock shall not crow to-day, before thrice thou mayest disown knowing me.'

35 A poi le-a zis: – Când v-am trimis fără pungă, fără traistă şi fără sandale, aţi dus voi lipsă de ceva? – De nimic! I-au răspuns ei.

And he said to them, `When I sent you without bag, and scrip, and sandals, did ye lack anything?' and they said, `Nothing.'

36 E l le-a mai zis: – Acum, dimpotrivă, cel ce are o pungă, s-o ia! La fel şi traista! Iar cel ce nu are sabie, să-şi vândă haina şi să-şi cumpere una!

Then said he to them, `But, now, he who is having a bag, let him take up, and in like manner also a scrip; and he who is not having, let him sell his garment, and buy a sword,

37 C ăci vă spun că ceea ce este scris trebuie să se împlinească în Mine, şi anume: „El a fost numărat alături de cei nelegiuiţi.“ Da, ceea ce este scris despre Mine este gata să se împlinească.

for I say to you, that yet this that hath been written it behoveth to be fulfilled in me: And with lawless ones he was reckoned, for also the things concerning me have an end.'

38 E i au zis: – Doamne, iată aici două săbii! – De-ajuns! le-a zis El. Isus se roagă pe Muntele Măslinilor

And they said, `Sir, lo, here two swords;' and he said to them, `It is sufficient.'

39 A ieşit afară şi S-a dus, ca de obicei, spre Muntele Măslinilor. Ucenicii L-au urmat şi ei.

And having gone forth, he went on, according to custom, to the mount of the Olives, and his disciples also followed him,

40 C ând a ajuns în locul acela, le-a zis: „Rugaţi-vă să nu cădeţi în ispită!“

and having come to the place, he said to them, `Pray ye not to enter into temptation.'

41 A poi S-a retras de lângă ei, cam la o distanţă de o aruncătură de piatră, s-a pus pe genunchi şi s-a rugat

And he was withdrawn from them, as it were a stone's cast, and having fallen on the knees he was praying,

42 z icând: „Tată, dacă vrei, îndepărtează de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuşi facă-se nu voia Mea, ci a Ta!“

saying, `Father, if Thou be counselling to make this cup pass from me --; but, not my will, but Thine be done.' --

43 ( Atunci I s-a arătat un înger din cer, ca să-L întărească.

And there appeared to him a messenger from heaven strengthening him;

44 F iind în agonie, El se ruga cu şi mai multă ardoare, iar sudoarea Lui devenise ca nişte picături de sânge care cădeau pe pământ.)

and having been in agony, he was more earnestly praying, and his sweat became, as it were, great drops of blood falling upon the ground.

45 C ând S-a ridicat de la rugăciune şi a venit la ucenici, i-a găsit adormiţi de întristare.

And having risen up from the prayer, having come unto the disciples, he found them sleeping from the sorrow,

46 E l le-a zis: „De ce dormiţi? Sculaţi-vă şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită!“ Arestarea lui Isus

and he said to them, `Why do ye sleep? having risen, pray that ye may not enter into temptation.'

47 Î n timp ce El încă vorbea, iată că au venit o mulţime de oameni, iar cel numit Iuda, unul din cei doisprezece, mergea înaintea lor. El s-a apropiat de Isus ca să-L sărute,

And while he is speaking, lo, a multitude, and he who is called Judas, one of the twelve, was coming before them, and he came nigh to Jesus to kiss him,

48 d ar Isus i-a zis: „Iuda, cu un sărut Îl trădezi tu pe Fiul Omului?“

and Jesus said to him, `Judas, with a kiss the Son of Man dost thou deliver up?'

49 C ând cei din jurul lui Isus au văzut ce urma să se întâmple, au zis: – Doamne, să lovim cu sabia?

And those about him, having seen what was about to be, said to him, `Sir, shall we smite with a sword?'

50 Ş i unul dintre ei l-a lovit cu sabia pe sclavul marelui preot, tăindu-i urechea dreaptă.

And a certain one of them smote the servant of the chief priest, and took off his right ear,

51 Î nsă Isus a zis: – Încetaţi cu aceasta! Şi a atins urechea acelui om şi l-a vindecat.

and Jesus answering said, `Suffer ye thus far,' and having touched his ear, he healed him.

52 A poi Isus le-a zis conducătorilor preoţilor, comandanţilor gărzii Templului şi bătrânilor, care veniseră împotriva Lui: „Aţi ieşit cu săbii şi ciomege, ca după un tâlhar ?

And Jesus said to those having come upon him -- chief priests, and magistrates of the temple, and elders -- `As upon a robber have ye come forth, with swords and sticks?

53 C ând eram cu voi în fiecare zi în Templu, n-aţi pus mâna pe Mine! Însă acesta este ceasul vostru şi autoritatea întunericului!“ Lepădarea lui Petru

while daily I was with you in the temple, ye did stretch forth no hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of the darkness.'

54 A tunci L-au prins şi L-au dus şi L-au băgat în casa marelui preot. Petru L-a urmat de la distanţă.

And having taken him, they led and brought him to the house of the chief priest. And Peter was following afar off,

55 A u aprins un foc în mijlocul curţii şi au şezut jos. Petru s-a aşezat şi el printre ei.

and they having kindled a fire in the midst of the court, and having sat down together, Peter was sitting in the midst of them,

56 O slujnică, când l-a văzut şezând lângă foc, s-a uitat ţintă la el şi a zis: – Şi acesta era cu El!

and a certain maid having seen him sitting at the light, and having earnestly looked at him, she said, `And this one was with him!'

57 Î nsă el s-a lepădat zicând: – Nu-L cunosc, femeie!

and he disowned him, saying, `Woman, I have not known him.'

58 D upă puţin timp, l-a văzut altcineva, care a zis: – Şi tu eşti dintre ei! Dar Petru a zis: – Nu sunt, omule!

And after a little, another having seen him, said, `And thou art of them!' and Peter said, `Man, I am not.'

59 C am o oră mai târziu, un altul a susţinut cu tărie, zicând: – Cu siguranţă şi acesta era cu El, căci este galileean!

And one hour, as it were, having intervened, a certain other was confidently affirming, saying, `Of a truth this one also was with him, for he is also a Galilean;'

60 D ar Petru a zis: – Omule, nu ştiu despre ce vorbeşti! Şi imediat, în timp ce el încă vorbea, a cântat cocoşul.

and Peter said, `Man, I have not known what thou sayest;' and presently, while he is speaking, a cock crew.

61 D omnul S-a întors şi s-a uitat la Petru. Atunci Petru şi-a adus aminte de cuvântul pe care i-l spusese Domnul: „Astăzi, înainte de cântatul cocoşului, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!“

And the Lord having turned did look on Peter, and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him -- `Before a cock shall crow, thou mayest disown me thrice;'

62 Ş i a ieşit afară şi a plâns cu amar. Isus, batjocorit de cei din garda Templului

and Peter having gone without, wept bitterly.

63 O amenii care-L păzeau pe Isus Îl batjocoreau şi-L băteau.

And the men who were holding Jesus were mocking him, beating;

64 E i L-au legat la ochi şi-L întrebau zicând: „Profeţeşte, cine este cel ce Te-a lovit?“

and having blindfolded him, they were striking him on the face, and were questioning him, saying, `Prophesy who he is who smote thee?'

65 Ş i rosteau multe alte blasfemii împotriva Lui. Isus înaintea Sinedriului

and many other things, speaking evilly, they spake in regard to him.

66 C ând s-a făcut ziuă, sfatul bătrânilor poporului, conducătorii preoţilor şi cărturarii s-au adunat împreună şi L-au dus pe Isus în sinedriul lor.

And when it became day there was gathered together the eldership of the people, chief priests also, and scribes, and they led him up to their own sanhedrim,

67 E i I-au zis: – Dacă Tu eşti Cristosul, spune-ne! Isus le-a răspuns: – Dacă vă voi spune, cu nici un chip nu veţi crede,

saying, `If thou be the Christ, tell us.' And he said to them, `If I may tell you, ye will not believe;

68 i ar dacă vă voi întreba, cu nici un chip nu-Mi veţi răspunde, (nici nu- Mi veţi da drumul).

and if I also question, ye will not answer me or send me away;

69 D e acum încolo, Fiul Omului va fi aşezat la dreapta puterii lui Dumnezeu.

henceforth, there shall be the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of the power of God.'

70 T oţi au întrebat: – Eşti Tu deci Fiul lui Dumnezeu? El le-a răspuns: – Chiar voi înşivă spuneţi că Eu sunt.

And they all said, `Thou, then, art the Son of God?' and he said unto them, `Ye say, because I am;'

71 A tunci ei au zis: – Ce nevoie mai avem de mărturie?! Căci noi înşine am auzit -o din gura Lui!

and they said, `What need yet have we of testimony? for we ourselves did hear from his mouth.'
