1 D upă ce ne-am luat rămas bun de la ei, am plecat pe mare îndreptându-ne spre Cos. În ziua următoare, am ajuns în Rodos, iar de acolo în Patara.

And it came to pass, at our sailing, having been parted from them, having run direct, we came to Coos, and the succeeding to Rhodes, and thence to Patara,

2 A m găsit o corabie care se îndrepta spre Fenicia, ne-am îmbarcat şi am plecat.

and having found a ship passing over to Phenicia, having gone on board, we sailed,

3 N e-a apărut în zare insula Cipru şi, lăsând-o în stânga, am navigat spre Siria; apoi am acostat în Tir, pentru că acolo urma să se descarce corabia.

and having discovered Cyprus, and having left it on the left, we were sailing to Syria, and did land at Tyre, for there was the ship discharging the lading.

4 I -am găsit pe ucenici şi am rămas cu ei timp de şapte zile. Aceştia îl avertizau pe Pavel, prin Duhul, de ce anume se va întâmpla când va pune piciorul în Ierusalim.

And having found out the disciples, we tarried there seven days, and they said to Paul, through the Spirit, not to go up to Jerusalem;

5 C ând zilele de stat alături de ei s-au încheiat, am plecat şi ne-am continuat călătoria. Toţi, împreună cu soţiile şi copiii, ne-au condus până afară din cetate. Acolo, pe ţărm, ne-am plecat pe genunchi şi ne-am rugat.

but when it came that we completed the days, having gone forth, we went on, all bringing us on the way, with women and children, unto the outside of the city, and having bowed the knees upon the shore, we prayed,

6 N e-am luat apoi rămas bun unii de la alţii, după care noi ne-am urcat în corabie, iar ei s-au întors la ale lor.

and having embraced one another, we embarked in the ship, and they returned to their own friends.

7 D in Tir am plecat mai departe, ajungând în Ptolemaida. I-am salutat pe fraţi şi am rămas cu ei timp de o zi.

And we, having finished the course, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them;

8 Î n ziua următoare am plecat şi ne-am dus în Cezareea. Am intrat în casa lui Filip, evanghelistul, care era unul din cei şapte, şi am rămas la el.

and on the morrow Paul and his company having gone forth, we came to Cesarea, and having entered into the house of Philip the evangelist -- who is of the seven -- we remained with him,

9 A cesta avea patru fete fecioare, care profeţeau.

and this one had four daughters, virgins, prophesying.

10 F iindcă am rămas acolo mai multe zile, un profet, pe nume Agab, s-a coborât din Iudeea

And we remaining many more days, there came down a certain one from Judea, a prophet, by name Agabus,

11 ş i a venit la noi. El a luat brâul lui Pavel şi şi-a legat picioarele şi mâinile, zicând: „Aşa vorbeşte Duhul Sfânt: «În felul acesta îl vor lega iudeii în Ierusalim pe omul căruia îi aparţine brâul acesta şi-l vor trăda în mâinile neamurilor!»“

and he having come unto us, and having taken up the girdle of Paul, having bound also his own hands and feet, said, `Thus saith the Holy Spirit, The man whose is this girdle -- so shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind, and they shall deliver up to the hands of nations.'

12 C ând am auzit aceste lucruri, atât noi, cât şi localnicii l-am rugat pe Pavel să nu se suie la Ierusalim.

And when we heard these things, we called upon -- both we, and those of that place -- not to go up to Jerusalem,

13 A tunci Pavel a răspuns: „Ce faceţi de plângeţi aşa şi-mi rupeţi inima?! Eu sunt gata nu numai să fiu legat, ci chiar să şi mor în Ierusalim pentru Numele Domnului Isus!“

and Paul answered, `What do ye -- weeping, and crushing mine heart? for I, not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem, am ready, for the name of the Lord Jesus;'

14 P entru că nu putea fi înduplecat, am tăcut, spunând doar: „Facă-se voia Domnului!“

and he not being persuaded, we were silent, saying, `The will of the Lord be done.'

15 D upă zilele acelea, ne-am pregătit şi ne-am suit la Ierusalim.

And after these days, having taken vessels, we were going up to Jerusalem,

16 A u venit cu noi şi câţiva ucenici din Cezareea şi ne-au condus la Mnason, un vechi ucenic din Cipru, la care urma să găzduim. Pavel în Ierusalim

and there went also of the disciples from Cesarea with us, bringing with them him with whom we may lodge, a certain Mnason of Cyprus, an aged disciple.

17 C ând am sosit în Ierusalim, fraţii ne-au primit cu bucurie.

And we having come to Jerusalem, the brethren did gladly receive us,

18 A doua zi Pavel a mers împreună cu noi la Iacov, şi toţi bătrânii au venit şi ei.

and on the morrow Paul was going in with us unto James, all the elders also came,

19 D upă ce i-a salutat, Pavel le-a istorisit, unul câte unul, lucrurile pe care le făcuse Dumnezeu printre neamuri prin slujba lui.

and having saluted them, he was declaring, one by one, each of the things God did among the nations through his ministration,

20 C ând au auzit ei aceste lucruri, L-au slăvit pe Dumnezeu şi i-au zis lui Pavel: „Vezi, frate, câte mii de iudei au crezut şi toţi sunt plini de râvnă pentru Lege!

and they having heard, were glorifying the Lord. They said also to him, `Thou seest, brother, how many myriads there are of Jews who have believed, and all are zealous of the law,

21 L or însă li s-a spus despre tine că-i înveţi pe toţi iudeii dintre neamuri să se lepede de Legea lui Moise, că le zici să nu-şi circumcidă copiii şi să nu mai respecte obiceiurile.

and they are instructed concerning thee, that apostacy from Moses thou dost teach to all Jews among the nations, saying -- Not to circumcise the children, nor after the customs to walk;

22 C e este de făcut? Cu siguranţă vor auzi că ai sosit.

what then is it? certainly the multitude it behoveth to come together, for they will hear that thou hast come.

23 F ă deci ce-ţi spunem noi: avem aici patru bărbaţi care au făcut un jurământ.

`This, therefore, do that we say to thee: We have four men having a vow on themselves,

24 I a-i cu tine, curăţeşte-te împreună cu ei şi cheltuie tu pentru ei ca să-şi radă capul. Şi astfel vor şti toţi că nimic din ceea ce li s-a spus despre tine nu este aşa, ci că şi tu trăieşti păzind Legea.

these having taken, be purified with them, and be at expence with them, that they may shave the head, and all may know that the things of which they have been instructed concerning thee are nothing, but thou dost walk -- thyself also -- the law keeping.

25 C u privire la neamurile care au crezut, noi am hotărât şi le-am trimis să se ferească de ceea ce este jertfit idolilor, de sânge, de animale sugrumate şi de adulter.“

`And concerning those of the nations who have believed, we have written, having given judgment, that they observe no such thing, except to keep themselves both from idol-sacrifices, and blood, and a strangled thing, and whoredom.'

26 A tunci Pavel i-a luat pe acei bărbaţi şi, a doua zi, după ce s-a curăţit împreună cu ei, a intrat în Templu şi a anunţat când va fi sfârşitul zilelor de curăţire, când urma să fie adusă o jertfă pentru fiecare dintre ei. Arestarea lui Pavel

Then Paul, having taken the men, on the following day, with them having purified himself, was entering into the temple, announcing the fulfilment of the days of the purification, till the offering was offered for each one of them.

27 C ând cele şapte zile erau pe sfârşite, iudeii din Asia l-au văzut pe Pavel în Templu; ei au stârnit toată mulţimea şi au pus mâinile pe el,

And, as the seven days were about to be fully ended, the Jews from Asia having beheld him in the temple, were stirring up all the multitude, and they laid hands upon him,

28 s trigând: „Bărbaţi israeliţi, veniţi în ajutor! Acesta este omul care-i învaţă pe toţi, pretutindeni, împotriva poporului nostru, împotriva Legii şi împotriva acestui loc! Ba încă a adus şi nişte greci în Templu şi a pângărit acest loc sfânt!“

crying out, `Men, Israelites, help! this is the man who, against the people, and the law, and this place, all everywhere is teaching; and further, also, Greeks he brought into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place;'

29 C ăci îl văzuseră mai înainte în cetate pe Trofim efeseanul împreună cu Pavel şi credeau că Pavel îl adusese în Templu.

for they had seen before Trophimus, the Ephesian, in the city with him, whom they were supposing that Paul brought into the temple.

30 T oată cetatea s-a pus în mişcare, şi poporul a venit alergând din toate părţile. L-au prins pe Pavel şi l-au târât afară din Templu; şi imediat uşile au fost încuiate.

All the city also was moved and there was a running together of the people, and having laid hold on Paul, they were drawing him out of the temple, and immediately were the doors shut,

31 Î n timp ce încercau să-l omoare, s-a dus vestea la tribunul cohortei că tot Ierusalimul este în agitaţie.

and they seeking to kill him, a rumour came to the chief captain of the band that all Jerusalem hath been thrown into confusion,

32 A cesta a luat imediat nişte soldaţi şi nişte centurioni şi a alergat la ei. Când l-au văzut pe tribun şi pe soldaţi, au încetat să-l mai bată pe Pavel.

who, at once, having taken soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them, and they having seen the chief captain and the soldiers, did leave off beating Paul.

33 A tunci tribunul s-a apropiat, l-a arestat pe Pavel şi a poruncit să fie legat cu două lanţuri. Apoi a întrebat cine era şi ce făcuse.

Then the chief captain, having come nigh, took him, and commanded to be bound with two chains, and was inquiring who he may be, and what it is he hath been doing,

34 U nii din mulţime strigau una, alţii alta, aşa că, din cauza zarvei, neputând să afle exact ce se întâmplase, a poruncit să fie dus în fort.

and some were crying out one thing, and some another, among the multitude, and not being able to know the certainty because of the tumult, he commanded him to be carried to the castle,

35 C ând a ajuns la trepte, Pavel a trebuit să fie dus de către soldaţi, din pricina violenţei mulţimii.

and when he came upon the steps, it happened he was borne by the soldiers, because of the violence of the multitude,

36 C ăci mulţimea poporului se ţinea după el, strigând: „La moarte cu el!“ Pavel se adresează mulţimii

for the crowd of the people was following after, crying, `Away with him.'

37 C hiar când urma să fie băgat în fort, Pavel i-a zis tribunului: – Îmi este îngăduit să-ţi spun ceva? Tribunul l-a întrebat: – Ştii greceşte?

And Paul being about to be led into the castle, saith to the chief captain, `Is it permitted to me to say anything unto thee?' and he said, `Greek dost thou know?

38 D eci nu eşti tu egipteanul care, cu câtva timp în urmă, a pornit o răscoală şi a dus în pustie patru mii de asasini ?

art not thou, then, the Egyptian who before these days made an uprising, and did lead into the desert the four thousand men of the assassins?'

39 P avel i-a răspuns: – Eu sunt iudeu, din Tarsul Ciliciei, cetăţean al unei cetăţi nu lipsită de importanţă. Dă-mi voie, te rog, să vorbesc poporului!

And Paul said, `I, indeed, am a man, a Jew, of Tarsus of Cilicia, of no mean city a citizen; and I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.'

40 T ribunul i-a dat voie, iar Pavel, stând în picioare pe trepte, a făcut poporului semn cu mâna. Când s-a făcut tăcere deplină, li s-a adresat în limba aramaică astfel:

And he having given him leave, Paul having stood upon the stairs, did beckon with the hand to the people, and there having been a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew dialect, saying:
