1 W hen we had parted from them and had set sail, we ran a straight course to Cos and the next day to Rhodes and from there to Patara;

And it came to pass, at our sailing, having been parted from them, having run direct, we came to Coos, and the succeeding to Rhodes, and thence to Patara,

2 a nd having found a ship crossing over to Phoenicia, we went aboard and set sail.

and having found a ship passing over to Phenicia, having gone on board, we sailed,

3 W hen we came in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left, we kept sailing to Syria and landed at Tyre; for there the ship was to unload its cargo.

and having discovered Cyprus, and having left it on the left, we were sailing to Syria, and did land at Tyre, for there was the ship discharging the lading.

4 A fter looking up the disciples, we stayed there seven days; and they kept telling Paul through the Spirit not to set foot in Jerusalem.

And having found out the disciples, we tarried there seven days, and they said to Paul, through the Spirit, not to go up to Jerusalem;

5 W hen our days there were ended, we left and started on our journey, while they all, with wives and children, escorted us until we were out of the city. After kneeling down on the beach and praying, we said farewell to one another.

but when it came that we completed the days, having gone forth, we went on, all bringing us on the way, with women and children, unto the outside of the city, and having bowed the knees upon the shore, we prayed,

6 T hen we went on board the ship, and they returned home again.

and having embraced one another, we embarked in the ship, and they returned to their own friends.

7 W hen we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais, and after greeting the brethren, we stayed with them for a day.

And we, having finished the course, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them;

8 O n the next day we left and came to Caesarea, and entering the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, we stayed with him.

and on the morrow Paul and his company having gone forth, we came to Cesarea, and having entered into the house of Philip the evangelist -- who is of the seven -- we remained with him,

9 N ow this man had four virgin daughters who were prophetesses.

and this one had four daughters, virgins, prophesying.

10 A s we were staying there for some days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.

And we remaining many more days, there came down a certain one from Judea, a prophet, by name Agabus,

11 A nd coming to us, he took Paul’s belt and bound his own feet and hands, and said, “This is what the Holy Spirit says: ‘In this way the Jews at Jerusalem will bind the man who owns this belt and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’”

and he having come unto us, and having taken up the girdle of Paul, having bound also his own hands and feet, said, `Thus saith the Holy Spirit, The man whose is this girdle -- so shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind, and they shall deliver up to the hands of nations.'

12 W hen we had heard this, we as well as the local residents began begging him not to go up to Jerusalem.

And when we heard these things, we called upon -- both we, and those of that place -- not to go up to Jerusalem,

13 T hen Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but even to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

and Paul answered, `What do ye -- weeping, and crushing mine heart? for I, not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem, am ready, for the name of the Lord Jesus;'

14 A nd since he would not be persuaded, we fell silent, remarking, “ The will of the Lord be done!” Paul at Jerusalem

and he not being persuaded, we were silent, saying, `The will of the Lord be done.'

15 A fter these days we got ready and started on our way up to Jerusalem.

And after these days, having taken vessels, we were going up to Jerusalem,

16 S ome of the disciples from Caesarea also came with us, taking us to Mnason of Cyprus, a disciple of long standing with whom we were to lodge.

and there went also of the disciples from Cesarea with us, bringing with them him with whom we may lodge, a certain Mnason of Cyprus, an aged disciple.

17 A fter we arrived in Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

And we having come to Jerusalem, the brethren did gladly receive us,

18 A nd the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present.

and on the morrow Paul was going in with us unto James, all the elders also came,

19 A fter he had greeted them, he began to relate one by one the things which God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

and having saluted them, he was declaring, one by one, each of the things God did among the nations through his ministration,

20 A nd when they heard it they began glorifying God; and they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the Law;

and they having heard, were glorifying the Lord. They said also to him, `Thou seest, brother, how many myriads there are of Jews who have believed, and all are zealous of the law,

21 a nd they have been told about you, that you are teaching all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children nor to walk according to the customs.

and they are instructed concerning thee, that apostacy from Moses thou dost teach to all Jews among the nations, saying -- Not to circumcise the children, nor after the customs to walk;

22 W hat, then, is to be done ? They will certainly hear that you have come.

what then is it? certainly the multitude it behoveth to come together, for they will hear that thou hast come.

23 T herefore do this that we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow;

`This, therefore, do that we say to thee: We have four men having a vow on themselves,

24 t ake them and purify yourself along with them, and pay their expenses so that they may shave their heads; and all will know that there is nothing to the things which they have been told about you, but that you yourself also walk orderly, keeping the Law.

these having taken, be purified with them, and be at expence with them, that they may shave the head, and all may know that the things of which they have been instructed concerning thee are nothing, but thou dost walk -- thyself also -- the law keeping.

25 B ut concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote, having decided that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication.”

`And concerning those of the nations who have believed, we have written, having given judgment, that they observe no such thing, except to keep themselves both from idol-sacrifices, and blood, and a strangled thing, and whoredom.'

26 T hen Paul took the men, and the next day, purifying himself along with them, went into the temple giving notice of the completion of the days of purification, until the sacrifice was offered for each one of them. Paul Seized in the Temple

Then Paul, having taken the men, on the following day, with them having purified himself, was entering into the temple, announcing the fulfilment of the days of the purification, till the offering was offered for each one of them.

27 W hen the seven days were almost over, the Jews from Asia, upon seeing him in the temple, began to stir up all the crowd and laid hands on him,

And, as the seven days were about to be fully ended, the Jews from Asia having beheld him in the temple, were stirring up all the multitude, and they laid hands upon him,

28 c rying out, “Men of Israel, come to our aid! This is the man who preaches to all men everywhere against our people and the Law and this place; and besides he has even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.”

crying out, `Men, Israelites, help! this is the man who, against the people, and the law, and this place, all everywhere is teaching; and further, also, Greeks he brought into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place;'

29 F or they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with him, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple.

for they had seen before Trophimus, the Ephesian, in the city with him, whom they were supposing that Paul brought into the temple.

30 T hen all the city was provoked, and the people rushed together, and taking hold of Paul they dragged him out of the temple, and immediately the doors were shut.

All the city also was moved and there was a running together of the people, and having laid hold on Paul, they were drawing him out of the temple, and immediately were the doors shut,

31 W hile they were seeking to kill him, a report came up to the commander of the Roman cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion.

and they seeking to kill him, a rumour came to the chief captain of the band that all Jerusalem hath been thrown into confusion,

32 A t once he took along some soldiers and centurions and ran down to them; and when they saw the commander and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

who, at once, having taken soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them, and they having seen the chief captain and the soldiers, did leave off beating Paul.

33 T hen the commander came up and took hold of him, and ordered him to be bound with two chains; and he began asking who he was and what he had done.

Then the chief captain, having come nigh, took him, and commanded to be bound with two chains, and was inquiring who he may be, and what it is he hath been doing,

34 B ut among the crowd some were shouting one thing and some another, and when he could not find out the facts because of the uproar, he ordered him to be brought into the barracks.

and some were crying out one thing, and some another, among the multitude, and not being able to know the certainty because of the tumult, he commanded him to be carried to the castle,

35 W hen he got to the stairs, he was carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the mob;

and when he came upon the steps, it happened he was borne by the soldiers, because of the violence of the multitude,

36 f or the multitude of the people kept following them, shouting, “ Away with him!”

for the crowd of the people was following after, crying, `Away with him.'

37 A s Paul was about to be brought into the barracks, he said to the commander, “May I say something to you?” And he said, “Do you know Greek?

And Paul being about to be led into the castle, saith to the chief captain, `Is it permitted to me to say anything unto thee?' and he said, `Greek dost thou know?

38 T hen you are not the Egyptian who some time ago stirred up a revolt and led the four thousand men of the Assassins out into the wilderness?”

art not thou, then, the Egyptian who before these days made an uprising, and did lead into the desert the four thousand men of the assassins?'

39 B ut Paul said, “ I am a Jew of Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no insignificant city; and I beg you, allow me to speak to the people.”

And Paul said, `I, indeed, am a man, a Jew, of Tarsus of Cilicia, of no mean city a citizen; and I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.'

40 W hen he had given him permission, Paul, standing on the stairs, motioned to the people with his hand; and when there was a great hush, he spoke to them in the Hebrew dialect, saying,

And he having given him leave, Paul having stood upon the stairs, did beckon with the hand to the people, and there having been a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew dialect, saying:
