1 T herefore, I exhort the elders among you, as your fellow elder and witness of the sufferings of Christ, and a partaker also of the glory that is to be revealed,
Elders who among you, I exhort, who a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and of the glory about to be revealed a partaker,
2 s hepherd the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness;
feed the flock of God that among you, overseeing not constrainedly, but willingly, neither for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind,
3 n or yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.
neither as exercising lordship over the heritages, but patterns becoming of the flock,
4 A nd when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
and at the manifestation of the chief Shepherd, ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory.
5 Y ou younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
In like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace;
6 T herefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,
be humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time,
7 c asting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.
all your care having cast upon Him, because He careth for you.
8 B e of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Be sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, doth walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up,
9 B ut resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.
whom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished.
10 A fter you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.
And the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle;
11 T o Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen.
to Him the glory, and the power -- to the ages and the ages! Amen.
12 T hrough Silvanus, our faithful brother (for so I regard him ), I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!
Through Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye have stood.
