1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me.

To the Overseer. -- A Psalm by David. Jehovah, Thou hast searched me, and knowest.

2 Y ou know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar.

Thou -- Thou hast known my sitting down, And my rising up, Thou hast attended to my thoughts from afar.

3 Y ou scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.

My path and my couch Thou hast fanned, And all my ways hast been acquainted.

4 E ven before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all.

For there is not a word in my tongue, Lo, O Jehovah, Thou hast known it all!

5 Y ou have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.

Behind and before Thou hast besieged me, And Thou dost place on me Thy hand.

6 S uch knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.

Knowledge too wonderful for me, It hath been set on high, I am not able for it.

7 W here can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

Whither do I go from Thy Spirit? And whither from Thy face do I flee?

8 I f I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.

If I ascend the heavens -- there Thou, And spread out a couch in Sheol, lo, Thee!

9 I f I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,

I take the wings of morning, I dwell in the uttermost part of the sea,

10 E ven there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.

Also there Thy hand doth lead me, And Thy right hand doth hold me.

11 I f I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,”

And I say, `Surely darkness bruiseth me, Then night light to me.

12 E ven the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.

Also darkness hideth not from Thee, And night as day shineth, as darkness so light.

13 F or You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.

For Thou -- Thou hast possessed my reins, Thou dost cover me in my mother's belly.

14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well.

I confess Thee, because that wonders I have been distinguished. Wonderful Thy works, And my soul is knowing well.

15 M y frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;

My substance was not hid from Thee, When I was made in secret, Curiously wrought in the lower part of earth.

16 Y our eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them.

Mine unformed substance Thine eyes saw, And on Thy book all of them are written, The days they were formed -- And not one among them.

17 H ow precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them!

And to me how precious have been Thy thoughts, O God, how great hath been their sum!

18 I f I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.

I recount them! than the sand they are more, I have waked, and I am still with Thee.

19 O that You would slay the wicked, O God; Depart from me, therefore, men of bloodshed.

Dost Thou slay, O God, the wicked? Then, men of blood, turn aside from me!

20 F or they speak against You wickedly, And Your enemies take Your name in vain.

Who exchange Thee for wickedness, Lifted up to vanity Thine enemies.

21 D o I not hate those who hate You, O Lord ? And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?

Do not I hate, Jehovah, those hating Thee? And with Thy withstanders grieve myself?

22 I hate them with the utmost hatred; They have become my enemies.

perfect hatred I have hated them, Enemies they have become to me.

23 S earch me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts;

Search me, O God, and know my heart, Try me, and know my thoughts,

24 A nd see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way.

And see if a grievous way be in me, And lead me in a way age-during!
