1 W hen the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.

And in the day of the Pentecost being fulfilled, they were all with one accord at the same place,

2 A nd suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

and there came suddenly out of the heaven a sound as of a bearing violent breath, and it filled all the house where they were sitting,

3 A nd there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.

and there appeared to them divided tongues, as it were of fire; it sat also upon each one of them,

4 A nd they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare.

5 N ow there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.

And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation of those under the heaven,

6 A nd when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.

and the rumour of this having come, the multitude came together, and was confounded, because they were each one hearing them speaking in his proper dialect,

7 T hey were amazed and astonished, saying, “ Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

and they were all amazed, and did wonder, saying one unto another, `Lo, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

8 A nd how is it that we each hear them in our own language to which we were born?

and how do we hear, each in our proper dialect, in which we were born?

9 P arthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea also, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,

10 P hrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

Phrygia also, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that along Cyrene, and the strangers of Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

11 C retans and Arabs—we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.”

Cretes and Arabians, we did hear them speaking in our tongues the great things of God.'

12 A nd they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one unto another, `What would this wish to be?'

13 B ut others were mocking and saying, “ They are full of sweet wine.” Peter’s Sermon

and others mocking said, -- `They are full of sweet wine;'

14 B ut Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you and give heed to my words.

and Peter having stood up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and declared to them, `Men, Jews! and all those dwelling in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and harken to my sayings,

15 F or these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day;

for these are not drunken, as ye take it up, for it is the third hour of the day.

16 b ut this is what was spoken of through the prophet Joel:

`But this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

17 And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘ That I will pour forth of My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams;

And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

18 E ven on My bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit And they shall prophesy.

and also upon My men-servants, and upon My maid-servants, in those days, I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy;

19 And I will grant wonders in the sky above And signs on the earth below, Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke.

and I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath -- blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke,

20 The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood, Before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come.

the sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the day of the Lord -- the great and illustrious;

21 And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

and it shall be, every one -- whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, he shall be saved.

22 Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know—

`Men, Israelites! hear these words, Jesus the Nazarene, a man approved of God among you by mighty works, and wonders, and signs, that God did through him in the midst of you, according as also ye yourselves have known;

23 t his Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.

this one, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, being given out, having taken by lawless hands, having crucified -- ye did slay;

24 B ut God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

whom God did raise up, having loosed the pains of the death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it,

25 F or David says of Him, ‘ I saw the Lord always in my presence; For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken.

for David saith in regard to him: I foresaw the Lord always before me -- because He is on my right hand -- that I may not be moved;

26 Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; Moreover my flesh also will live in hope;

because of this was my heart cheered, and my tongue was glad, and yet -- my flesh also shall rest on hope,

27 B ecause You will not abandon my soul to Hades, Nor allow Your Holy One to undergo decay.

because Thou wilt not leave my soul to hades, nor wilt Thou give Thy Kind One to see corruption;

28 You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’

Thou didst make known to me ways of life, Thou shalt fill me with joy with Thy countenance.

29 Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

`Men, brethren! it is permitted to speak with freedom unto you concerning the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is among us unto this day;

30 A nd so, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne,

a prophet, therefore, being, and knowing that with an oath God did swear to him, out of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, to raise up the Christ, to sit upon his throne,

31 h e looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay.

having foreseen, he did speak concerning the rising again of the Christ, that his soul was not left to hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

32 T his Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses.

`This Jesus did God raise up, of which we are all witnesses;

33 T herefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear.

at the right hand then of God having been exalted -- also the promise of the Holy Spirit having received from the Father -- he was shedding forth this, which now ye see and hear;

34 F or it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: ‘ The Lord said to my Lord, “ Sit at My right hand,

for David did not go up to the heavens, and he saith himself: The Lord saith to my lord, Sit thou at my right hand,

35 U ntil I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’

till I make thy foes thy footstool;

36 T herefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.” The Ingathering

assuredly, therefore, let all the house of Israel know, that both Lord and Christ did God make him -- this Jesus whom ye did crucify.'

37 N ow when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “ Brethren, what shall we do?”

And having heard, they were pricked to the heart; they say also to Peter, and to the rest of the apostles, `What shall we do, men, brethren?'

38 P eter said to them, “ Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

and Peter said unto them, `Reform, and be baptized each of you on the name of Jesus Christ, to remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,

39 F or the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.”

for to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all those afar off, as many as the Lord our God shall call.'

40 A nd with many other words he solemnly testified and kept on exhorting them, saying, “ Be saved from this perverse generation!”

Also with many more other words he was testifying and exhorting, saying, `Be saved from this perverse generation;'

41 S o then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.

then those, indeed, who did gladly receive his word were baptized, and there were added on that day, as it were, three thousand souls,

42 T hey were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

and they were continuing stedfastly in the teaching of the apostles, and the fellowship, and the breaking of the bread, and the prayers.

43 E veryone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.

And fear came on every soul, many wonders also and signs were being done through the apostles,

44 A nd all those who had believed were together and had all things in common;

and all those believing were at the same place, and had all things common,

45 a nd they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.

and the possessions and the goods they were selling, and were parting them to all, according as any one had need.

46 D ay by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart,

Daily also continuing with one accord in the temple, breaking also at every house bread, they were partaking of food in gladness and simplicity of heart,

47 p raising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.

praising God, and having favour with all the people, and the Lord was adding those being saved every day to the assembly.
