1 N ow the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt,

And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, in the land of Egypt, saying,

2 This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you.

`This month to you the chief of months -- it the first to you of the months of the year;

3 S peak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, ‘On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers’ households, a lamb for each household.

speak ye unto all the company of Israel, saying, In the tenth of this month -- they take to them each man a lamb for the house of the fathers, a lamb for a house.

4 N ow if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons in them; according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb.

`(And if the household be too few for a lamb, then hath he taken, he and his neighbour who is near unto his house, for the number of persons, each according to his eating ye do count for the lamb,)

5 Y our lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats.

a lamb, a perfect one, a male, a son of a year, let be to you; from the sheep or from the goats ye do take.

6 Y ou shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight.

`And it hath become a charge to you, until the fourteenth day of this month, and the whole assembly of the company of Israel have slaughtered it between the evenings;

7 M oreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.

and they have taken of the blood, and have put on the two side-posts, and on the lintel over the houses in which they eat it.

8 T hey shall eat the flesh that same night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs.

`And they have eaten the flesh in this night, roast with fire; with unleavened things and bitters they do eat it;

9 D o not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, both its head and its legs along with its entrails.

ye do not eat of it raw, or boiled at all in water, but roast with fire, its head with its legs, and with its inwards;

10 A nd you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire.

and ye do not leave of it till morning, and that which is remaining of it till morning with fire ye do burn.

11 N ow you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste—it is the Lord’s Passover.

`And thus ye do eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand, and ye have eaten it in haste; it is Jehovah's passover,

12 F or I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments— I am the Lord.

and I have passed over through the land of Egypt during this night, and have smitten every first-born in the land of Egypt, from man even unto beast, and on all the gods of Egypt I do judgments; I Jehovah.

13 T he blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Feast of Unleavened Bread

`And the blood hath become a sign for you on the houses where ye, and I have seen the blood, and have passed over you, and a plague is not on you for destruction in My smiting in the land of Egypt.

14 Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.

`And this day hath become to you a memorial, and ye have kept it a feast to Jehovah to your generations; -- a statute age-during; ye keep it a feast.

15 S even days you shall eat unleavened bread, but on the first day you shall remove leaven from your houses; for whoever eats anything leavened from the first day until the seventh day, that person shall be cut off from Israel.

Seven days ye eat unleavened things; only -- in the first day ye cause leaven to cease out of your houses; for any one eating anything fermented from the first day till the seventh day, even that person hath been cut off from Israel.

16 O n the first day you shall have a holy assembly, and another holy assembly on the seventh day; no work at all shall be done on them, except what must be eaten by every person, that alone may be prepared by you.

`And in the first day a holy convocation, and in the seventh day ye have a holy convocation; any work is not done in them, only that which is eaten by any person -- it alone is done by you,

17 Y ou shall also observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread, for on this very day I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt; therefore you shall observe this day throughout your generations as a permanent ordinance.

and ye have observed the unleavened things, for in this self-same day I have brought out your hosts from the land of Egypt, and ye have observed this day to your generations -- a statute age-during.

18 I n the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month at evening.

`In the first, in the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, ye do eat unleavened things until the one and twentieth day of the month, at evening;

19 S even days there shall be no leaven found in your houses; for whoever eats what is leavened, that person shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he is an alien or a native of the land.

seven days leaven is not found in your houses, for any eating anything fermented -- that person hath been cut off from the company of Israel, among the sojourners or among the natives of the land;

20 Y ou shall not eat anything leavened; in all your dwellings you shall eat unleavened bread.’”

anything fermented ye do not eat, in all your dwellings ye do eat unleavened things.'

21 T hen Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “ Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb.

And Moses calleth for all the elders of Israel, and saith unto them, `Draw out and take for yourselves the flock, for your families, and slaughter the passover-sacrifice;

22 Y ou shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning. A Memorial of Redemption

and ye have taken a bunch of hyssop, and have dipped in the blood which in the basin, and have struck on the lintel, and on the two side-posts, from the blood which in the basin, and ye, ye go not out each from the opening of his house till morning.

23 F or the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.

`And Jehovah hath passed on to smite the Egyptians, and hath seen the blood on the lintel, and on the two side-posts, and Jehovah hath passed over the opening, and doth not permit the destruction to come into your houses to smite.

24 A nd you shall observe this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever.

`And ye have observed this thing, for a statute to thee, and to thy sons -- unto the age;

25 W hen you enter the land which the Lord will give you, as He has promised, you shall observe this rite.

and it hath been, when ye come in unto the land which Jehovah giveth to you, as He hath spoken, that ye have kept this service;

26 A nd when your children say to you, ‘ What does this rite mean to you?’

and it hath come to pass when your sons say unto you, What this service ye have?

27 y ou shall say, ‘It is a Passover sacrifice to the Lord who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.’” And the people bowed low and worshiped.

that ye have said, A sacrifice of passover it to Jehovah, who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt, in His smiting the Egyptians, and our houses He delivered.'

28 T hen the sons of Israel went and did so; just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.

And the people bow and do obeisance, and the sons of Israel go and do as Jehovah commanded Moses and Aaron; so have they done.

29 N ow it came about at midnight that the Lord struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the firstborn of the captive who was in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of cattle.

And it cometh to pass, at midnight, that Jehovah hath smitten every first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh who is sitting on his throne, unto the first-born of the captive who in the prison-house, and every first-born of beasts.

30 P haraoh arose in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians, and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no home where there was not someone dead.

And Pharaoh riseth by night, he and all his servants, and all the Egyptians, and there is a great cry in Egypt, for there is not a house where there is not dead,

31 T hen he called for Moses and Aaron at night and said, “Rise up, get out from among my people, both you and the sons of Israel; and go, worship the Lord, as you have said.

and he calleth for Moses and for Aaron by night, and saith, `Rise, go out from the midst of my people, both ye and the sons of Israel, and go, serve Jehovah according to your word;

32 T ake both your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and go, and bless me also.” Exodus of Israel

both your flock and your herd take ye, as ye have spoken, and go; then ye have blessed also me.'

33 T he Egyptians urged the people, to send them out of the land in haste, for they said, “We will all be dead.”

And the Egyptians are urgent on the people, hasting to send them away out of the land, for they said, `We are all dead;'

34 S o the people took their dough before it was leavened, with their kneading bowls bound up in the clothes on their shoulders.

and the people taketh up its dough before it is fermented, their kneading-troughs bound up in their garments on their shoulder.

35 N ow the sons of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, for they had requested from the Egyptians articles of silver and articles of gold, and clothing;

And the sons of Israel have done according to the word of Moses, and they ask from the Egyptians vessels of silver and vessels of gold, and garments;

36 a nd the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have their request. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.

and Jehovah hath given the grace of the people in the eyes of the Egyptians, and they cause them to ask, and they spoil the Egyptians.

37 N ow the sons of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, aside from children.

And the sons of Israel journey from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, apart from infants;

38 A mixed multitude also went up with them, along with flocks and herds, a very large number of livestock.

and a great rabble also hath gone up with them, and flock and herd -- very much cattle.

39 T hey baked the dough which they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread. For it had not become leavened, since they were driven out of Egypt and could not delay, nor had they prepared any provisions for themselves.

And they bake with the dough which they have brought out from Egypt unleavened cakes, for it hath not fermented; for they have been cast out of Egypt, and have not been able to delay, and also provision they have not made for themselves.

40 N ow the time that the sons of Israel lived in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

And the dwelling of the sons of Israel which they have dwelt in Egypt four hundred and thirty years;

41 A nd at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt. Ordinance of the Passover

and it cometh to pass, at the end of four hundred and thirty years -- yea, it cometh to pass in this self-same day -- all the hosts of Jehovah have gone out from the land of Egypt.

42 I t is a night to be observed for the Lord for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for the Lord, to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations.

A night of watchings it to Jehovah, to bring them out from the land of Egypt; it this night to Jehovah of watchings to all the sons of Israel to their generations.

43 T he Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “This is the ordinance of the Passover: no foreigner is to eat of it;

And Jehovah saith unto Moses and Aaron, `This a statute of the passover; Any son of a stranger doth not eat of it;

44 b ut every man’s slave purchased with money, after you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it.

and any man's servant, the purchase of money, when thou hast circumcised him -- then he doth eat of it;

45 A sojourner or a hired servant shall not eat of it.

a settler or hired servant doth not eat of it;

46 I t is to be eaten in a single house; you are not to bring forth any of the flesh outside of the house, nor are you to break any bone of it.

in one house it is eaten, thou dost not carry out of the house of the flesh without, and a bone ye do not break of it;

47 A ll the congregation of Israel are to celebrate this.

all the company of Israel do keep it.

48 B ut if a stranger sojourns with you, and celebrates the Passover to the Lord, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near to celebrate it; and he shall be like a native of the land. But no uncircumcised person may eat of it.

`And when a sojourner sojourneth with thee, and hath made a passover to Jehovah, every male of his to be circumcised, and then he doth come near to keep it, and he hath been as a native of the land, but any uncircumcised one doth not eat of it;

49 T he same law shall apply to the native as to the stranger who sojourns among you.”

one law is to a native, and to a sojourner who is sojourning in your midst.'

50 T hen all the sons of Israel did so; they did just as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.

And all the sons of Israel do as Jehovah commanded Moses and Aaron; so have they done.

51 A nd on that same day the Lord brought the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.

And it cometh to pass in this self-same day, Jehovah hath brought out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, by their hosts.
