1 I ată Cuvântul Domnului care a venit la profetul Ieremia cu privire la neamuri.

That which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations,

2 C u privire la Egipt: Acesta este mesajul împotriva oştirii faraonului Neco, monarhul Egiptului, care fusese înfrântă la Carchemiş, lângă râul Eufrat, de Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, în anul al patrulea al lui Iehoiachim, fiul lui Iosia, regele lui Iuda:

For Egypt, concerning the force of Pharaoh-Necho king of Egypt, that hath been by the river Phrat, in Carchemish, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon hath smitten, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah:

3 „ Pregătiţi-vă scuturile mari şi mici şi mergeţi la luptă!

`Set ye in array shield and buckler, And draw nigh to battle.

4 C ălăreţi, înhămaţi caii şi încălecaţi bidivii! Staţi pregătiţi cu coifurile puse! Lustruiţi-vă suliţele şi îmbrăcaţi-vă armurile!

Gird the horses, and go up, ye horsemen, And station yourselves with helmets, Polish the javelins, put on the coats of mail.

5 D ar ce văd? Le este frică, se retrag, vitejii lor sunt înfrânţi. Ei fug în grabă, fără să mai privească înapoi. Pretutindeni este numai teroare, zice Domnul.“

Wherefore have I seen them dismayed -- They are turned backward, And their mighty ones are beaten down, And a refuge they have fled, and not turned the face? Fear round about -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

6 „ Cel iute de picior nu va putea fugi, nici cel viteaz nu va putea scăpa! În partea de nord, lângă râul Eufrat, ei se împiedică şi cad.

The swift do not flee, nor do the mighty escape, Northward, by the side of the river Phrat, They have stumbled and fallen.

7 C ine este acela care se înalţă ca Nilul, ale cărui ape sunt agitate ca râurile?

Who is this? as a flood he cometh up, As rivers do his waters shake themselves!

8 E giptul se înalţă ca Nilul, iar apele lui sunt agitate ca râurile. El zice: «Mă voi ridica şi voi acoperi ţara, îi voi nimici cetăţile şi pe cei ce locuiesc în ele.»

Egypt, as a flood cometh up, And as rivers the waters shake themselves. And he saith, I go up; I cover the land, I destroy the city and the inhabitants in it.

9 N ăpustiţi-vă, cai! Năvăliţi, care! Să iasă vitejii: cei din Cuş şi din Put care poartă scutul şi cei din Lud care trag cu arcul!

Go up, ye horses; and boast yourselves, ye chariots, And go forth, ye mighty, Cush and Phut handling the shield, And Lud handling -- treading the bow.

10 Z iua aceea însă va fi a Stăpânului, Domnul Oştirilor! Va fi o zi de răzbunare, în care El se va răzbuna pe duşmanii Lui. Sabia va devora, se va sătura şi se va îmbăta cu sângele lor, căci Stăpânul, Domnul Oştirilor, va aduce o jertfă în ţara din nord, lângă râul Eufrat.

And that day to the Lord Jehovah of Hosts A day of vengeance, To be avenged of His adversaries, And the sword hath devoured, and been satisfied, And it hath been watered from their blood, For a sacrifice to the Lord Jehovah of Hosts, In the land of the north, by the river Phrat.

11 D u-te în Ghilad şi adu balsam, fiică fecioară a Egiptului! Degeaba îţi înmulţeşti leacurile, căci nu este vindecare pentru tine.

Go up to Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt, In vain thou hast multiplied medicines, Healing there is none for thee.

12 P opoarele vor auzi de ruşinea ta; strigătele tale vor umple pământul. Un viteaz se va împiedica de un altul şi vor cădea amândoi.“

Nations have heard of thy shame, And thy cry hath filled the land, For the mighty on the mighty did stumble, Together they have fallen -- both of them!'

13 I ată cuvântul pe care Domnul i l-a spus profetului Ieremia despre venirea lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului, ca să atace ţara Egiptului:

The word that Jehovah hath spoken unto Jeremiah the prophet concerning the coming in of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, to smite the land of Egypt:

14 „ Dă de ştire în Egipt şi vesteşte în Migdol. Vesteşte şi în Nof şi în Tahpanhes şi spune-le: «Ridicaţi-vă şi pregătiţi-vă, căci sabia îi devorează pe cei din jurul vostru.»

`Declare ye in Egypt, and sound in Migdol, Yea, sound in Noph, and in Tahpanhes say: Station thyself, yea, prepare for thee, For a sword hath devoured around thee,

15 D e ce s-au prăbuşit vitejii tăi? Ei nu pot sta în picioare, căci Domnul i-a aruncat la pământ.

Wherefore hath thy bull been swept away? He hath not stood, because Jehovah thrust him away.

16 E l îi va face pe mulţi să se împiedice întruna şi vor cădea unul peste altul. Vor zice: «Haidem să ne întoarcem la poporul nostru şi în ţara noastră natală, departe de sabia asupritorului!»

He hath multiplied the stumbling, Yea one hath fallen upon his neighbour, And they say: Rise, and we turn back to our people, And unto the land of our birth, Because of the oppressing sword.

17 A colo vor zice: «Faraon nu este decât un vuiet, care a lăsat să treacă pe lângă el momentul potrivit.»“

They have cried there: Pharaoh king of Egypt a desolation, Passed by hath the appointed time.

18 „ Viu sunt Eu, zice Împăratul, al Cărui Nume este Domnul Oştirilor, că va veni unul care este ca Taborul printre munţi, asemenea Carmelului deasupra mării.

I live -- an affirmation of the King, Jehovah of Hosts His name, Surely as Tabor among mountains, And as Carmel by the sea -- he cometh in,

19 P regăteşte-ţi lucrurile pentru exil, locuitoare – fiica Egiptului! Căci Noful va ajunge un pustiu, va fi părăsit şi nimeni nu va mai locui în el.

Goods for removal make for thee, O inhabitant, daughter of Egypt, For Noph becometh a desolation, And hath been burnt up, without inhabitant.

20 E giptul este o viţea foarte frumoasă, dar un tăun vine asupra ei dinspre nord.

A heifer very fair Egypt, Rending from the north doth come into her.

21 M ercenarii din rândurile lui sunt ca nişte viţei îngrăşaţi în grajd, dar şi ei se întorc şi fug, pentru că nu pot ţine piept, căci ziua nenorocirii vine peste ei, ziua când ei vor fi pedepsiţi.

Even her hired ones in her midst as calves of the stall, For even they have turned, They have fled together, they have not stood, For the day of their calamity hath come on them, The time of their inspection.

22 E giptul va sâsâi ca un şarpe care fuge, căci îl urmăreşte oştirea duşmană. Ei vin împotriva lui cu topoare, ca nişte tăietori de lemne.

Its voice as a serpent goeth on, For with a force they go, And with axes they have come in to her, As hewers of trees.

23 Î i vor tăia pădurea, zice Domnul, chiar dacă este foarte deasă. Ei sunt mai numeroşi decât lăcustele şi nu pot fi număraţi.

They have cut down her forest, An affirmation of Jehovah -- for it is not searched, For they have been more than the grasshopper, And they have no numbering.

24 F iica Egiptului este acoperită de ruşine şi este dată în mâinile poporului din nord.“

Ashamed hath been the daughter of Egypt, She hath been given into the hand of the people of the north.

25 „ Aşa vorbeşte Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel: «Iată, voi aduce pedeapsa împotriva lui Amon din No, împotriva lui Faraon, împotriva Egiptului, împotriva zeilor şi monarhilor lui şi împotriva lui Faraon şi a celor ce se încred în el.

Said hath Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: Lo, I am seeing after Amon of No, And after Pharaoh, and after Egypt, And after her gods, and after her kings, And after Pharaoh, and after those trusting in him,

26 Î i voi da în mâinile celor ce caută să le ia viaţa, în mâinile lui Nebucadneţar, împăratul Babilonului şi ale conducătorilor lui. După aceea, Egiptul va fi locuit ca în zilele de odinioară, zice Domnul.»“

And I have given them into the hand of those seeking their life, And into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, And into the hand of his servants, And afterwards it is inhabited, As days of old -- an affirmation of Jehovah.

27 „ Dar tu, robul Meu Iacov, nu te teme; nu te înspăimânta, Israele! Căci iată, te voi elibera din teritoriul îndepărtat şi-ţi voi izbăvi urmaşii din ţara în care sunt captivi. Iacov se va întoarce, va avea odihnă şi linişte şi nimeni nu-l va mai îngrozi.

And thou, thou dost not fear, my servant Jacob, Nor thou dismayed, O Israel, For lo, I am saving thee from afar, And thy seed from the land of their captivity, And Jacob hath turned back, And hath been at rest, and been at ease, And there is none disturbing.

28 N u te teme, robul Meu Iacov, căci Eu sunt cu tine, zice Domnul. Voi nimici toate neamurile printre care te-am alungat, dar pe tine nu te voi nimici. Te voi disciplina însă cu dreptate; nu pot să te las nepedepsit.“

Thou, thou dost not fear, My servant Jacob, An affirmation of Jehovah -- for with thee I, For I make an end of all the nations Whither I have driven thee, And of thee I do not make an end, And I have reproved thee in judgment, And do not entirely acquit thee!'
