1 D upă toate acestea, într-o zi, Iosif a fost anunţat: „Tatăl tău este bolnav.“ Atunci acesta i-a luat cu el pe cei doi fii ai săi – pe Manase şi pe Efraim.

And it cometh to pass, after these things, that saith to Joseph, `Lo, thy father is sick;' and he taketh his two sons with him, Manasseh and Ephraim.

2 C ând lui Iacov i s-a spus: „Fiul tău Iosif a venit la tine“, el şi-a adunat puterile şi a şezut pe pat.

And declareth to Jacob, and saith, `Lo, thy son Joseph is coming unto thee;' and Israel doth strengthen himself, and sit upon the bed.

3 I acov i-a zis lui Iosif: – Dumnezeul cel Atotputernic mi S-a arătat la Luz, în Canaan, m-a binecuvântat

And Jacob saith unto Joseph, `God Almighty hath appeared unto me, in Luz, in the land of Canaan, and blesseth me,

4 ş i mi-a zis: „Te voi face roditor şi te voi înmulţi; te voi face o adunare de popoare şi voi da această ţară urmaşilor tăi după tine ca pe o proprietate veşnică.“

and saith unto me, Lo, I am making thee fruitful, and have multiplied thee, and given thee for an assembly of peoples, and given this land to thy seed after thee, a possession age-during.

5 D e aceea cei doi fii ai tăi, care ţi s-au născut în ţara Egiptului, vor fi ai mei; Efraim şi Manase vor fi ai mei aşa cum sunt Ruben şi Simeon.

`And now, thy two sons, who are born to thee in the land of Egypt, before my coming unto thee to Egypt, mine they; Ephraim and Manasseh, as Reuben and Simeon they are mine;

6 U rmaşii care ţi s-au născut după ei vor fi ai tăi. În teritoriul pe care îl vor moşteni, ei vor fi numiţi după numele fraţilor lor.

and thy family which thou hast begotten after them are thine; by the name of their brethren they are called in their inheritance.

7 D upă ce m-am întors din Padan, Rahela a murit pe drum, în Canaan, înainte de a ajunge la Efrata; am îngropat-o acolo, pe drumul spre Efrata, adică Betleem.

`And I -- in my coming in from Padan- Rachel hath died by me in the land of Canaan, in the way, while yet a kibrath of land to enter Ephrata, and I bury her there in the way of Ephrata, which Bethlehem.'

8 C ând Israel i-a văzut pe fiii lui Iosif, a întrebat: – Cine sunt aceştia?

And Israel seeth the sons of Joseph, and saith, `Who these?'

9 – Sunt fiii pe care Dumnezeu mi i-a dat aici, a răspuns Iosif. – Adu-i la mine să-i binecuvântez, a zis el.

and Joseph saith unto his father, `They my sons, whom God hath given to me in this;' and he saith, `Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I bless them.'

10 V ederea lui Israel slăbise din cauza bătrâneţii, astfel că nu mai vedea bine. Iosif i-a apropiat pe cei doi fii ai săi de el, iar Israel i-a sărutat şi i-a îmbrăţişat.

And the eyes of Israel have been heavy from age, he is unable to see; and he bringeth them nigh unto him, and he kisseth them, and cleaveth to them;

11 A poi i-a zis lui Iosif: – Nu mi-am închipuit c-o să te mai văd, dar Dumnezeu m-a ajutat să-ţi văd şi copiii.

and Israel saith unto Joseph, `To see thy face I had not thought, and lo, God hath shewed me also thy seed.'

12 I osif i-a îndepărtat de lângă genunchii tatălui său şi s-a plecat cu faţa până la pământ.

And Joseph bringeth them out from between his knees, and boweth himself on his face to the earth;

13 A poi i-a luat pe amândoi, pe Efraim la dreapta sa şi la stânga lui Israel, iar pe Manase la stânga sa şi la dreapta lui Israel şi i-a apropiat de el.

and Joseph taketh them both, Ephraim in his right hand towards Israel's left, and Manasseh in his left towards Israel's right, and bringeth nigh to him.

14 D ar Israel, încrucişându-şi mâinile, şi-a întins mâna dreaptă şi a pus-o pe capul lui Efraim, care era mai mic, iar mâna stângă a pus-o pe capul lui Manase, deşi el era întâiul născut.

And Israel putteth out his right hand, and placeth upon the head of Ephraim, who the younger, and his left hand upon the head of Manasseh; he hath guided his hands wisely, for Manasseh the first-born.

15 E l l-a binecuvântat pe Iosif şi a zis: „Dumnezeul înaintea Căruia au umblat strămoşii mei, Avraam şi Isaac, Dumnezeul Care a fost păstorul vieţii mele până astăzi,

And he blesseth Joseph, and saith, `God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked habitually: God who is feeding me from my being unto this day:

16 Î ngerul Care m-a scăpat din fiecare necaz, să-i binecuvânteze pe aceşti băieţi. Ei să fie numiţi după numele meu şi după numele strămoşilor mei, Avraam şi Isaac, şi să se înmulţească foarte mult pe pământ.“

the Messenger who is redeeming me from all evil doth bless the youths, and my name is called upon them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and they increase into a multitude in the midst of the land.'

17 C ând Iosif a văzut că tatăl său şi-a pus mâna dreaptă pe capul lui Efraim, nu i-a plăcut şi a luat mâna tatălui său ca să o mute de pe capul lui Efraim pe capul lui Manase.

And Joseph seeth that his father setteth his right hand on the head of Ephraim, and it is wrong in his eyes, and he supporteth the hand of his father to turn it aside from off the head of Ephraim to the head of Manasseh;

18 E l i-a zis tatălui său: – Nu aşa, tată! Acesta este întâiul născut; pe capul lui pune-ţi mâna dreaptă.

and Joseph saith unto his father, `Not so, my father, for this the first-born; set thy right hand on his head.'

19 D ar tatăl său a refuzat şi a răspuns: – Ştiu, fiule, ştiu; şi el va ajunge un popor, şi el va fi mare. Totuşi fratele său mai mic va fi mai mare decât el, iar urmaşii lui vor ajunge o mulţime de neamuri.

And his father refuseth, and saith, `I have known, my son, I have known; he also becometh a people, and he also is great, and yet, his young brother is greater than he, and his seed is the fulness of the nations;'

20 I srael i-a binecuvântat în ziua aceea, zicând: „În numele tău va binecuvânta Israel şi va zice: «Dumnezeu să te facă precum Efraim şi Manase.»“ Astfel, el l-a pus pe Efraim înaintea lui Manase.

and he blesseth them in that day, saying, `By thee doth Israel bless, saying, God set thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh;' and he setteth Ephraim before Manasseh.

21 A poi Israel i-a zis lui Iosif: – Eu voi muri, dar Dumnezeu va fi cu voi şi vă va întoarce în ţara strămoşilor voştri.

And Israel saith unto Joseph, `Lo, I am dying, and God hath been with you, and hath brought you back unto the land of your fathers;

22 Ţ ie, care eşti deasupra fraţilor tăi, îţi dau Şehemul pe care l-am luat cu sabia şi cu arcul meu din mâna amoriţilor.

and I -- I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I have taken out of the hand of the Amorite by my sword and by my bow.'
