1 « Consolate, consolate il mio popolo, dice il vostro DIO.

Comfort ye, comfort ye, My people, saith your God.

2 P arlate al cuore di Gerusalemme, e proclamatele che il suo tempo di guerra è finito, che la sua iniquità è espiata, perché ha ricevuto dalla mano dell'Eterno il doppio per tutti i suoi peccati».

Speak to the heart of Jerusalem, and call to her, That her warfare hath been completed, That accepted hath been her punishment, That she hath received from the hand of Jehovah Double for all her sins.

3 L a voce di uno che grida nel deserto: «Preparate la via dell'Eterno, raddrizzate nel deserto una strada per il nostro DIO.

A voice is crying -- in a wilderness -- Prepare ye the way of Jehovah, Make straight in a desert a highway to our God.

4 O gni valle sia colmata e ogni monte e colle siano abbassati, i luoghi tortuosi siano raddrizzati e i luoghi scabrosi appianati

Every valley is raised up, And every mountain and hill become low, And the crooked place hath become a plain, And the entangled places a valley.

5 A llora la gloria dell'Eterno sarà rivelata e ogni carne la vedrà, perché la bocca dell'Eterno ha parlato».

And revealed hath been the honour of Jehovah, And seen have all flesh together, For the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.

6 U na voce dice: «Grida!», e si risponde: «Che griderò?». «Grida che ogni carne è come l'erba, e che tutta la sua grazia è come il fiore del campo.

A voice is saying, `Call,' And he said, `What do I call?' All flesh grass, and all its goodliness As a flower of the field:

7 L 'erba si secca, il fiore appassisce quando lo Spirito dell'Eterno vi soffia sopra; certo il popolo non è altro che erba.

Withered hath grass, faded the flower, For the Spirit of Jehovah blew upon it, Surely the people grass;

8 L 'erba si secca, il fiore appassisce, ma la parola del nostro DIO rimane in eterno».

Withered hath grass, faded the flower, But a word of our God riseth for ever.

9 O Sion, tu che rechi la buona novella, sali su un alto monte! O Gerusalemme, tu che rechi la buona novella alza la voce con forza! Alza la voce non temere! Di' alle città di Giuda: «Ecco il vostro DIO!».

On a high mountain get thee up, O Zion, Proclaiming tidings, Lift up with power thy voice, O Jerusalem, proclaiming tidings, Lift up, fear not, say to cities of Judah, `Lo, your God.'

10 E cco, il Signore, l'Eterno viene con potenza, e il suo braccio domina per lui. Ecco il suo premio è con lui e la sua ricompensa lo precede.

Lo, the Lord Jehovah with strength cometh, And His arm is ruling for Him, Lo, His hire with Him, and His wage before Him.

11 E gli pascolerà il suo gregge come un pastore, radunerà gli agnelli col suo braccio e li porterà sul suo seno, e guiderà con dolcezza e cura le pecore che hanno i piccoli.

As a shepherd His flock He feedeth, With His arm He gathereth lambs, And in His bosom He carrieth: Suckling ones He leadeth.

12 C hi ha misurato le acque nel cavo della sua mano, preso le dimensioni del cielo con la spanna, raccolto la polvere della terra in una misura, o pesato le montagne con la stadera e i colli con la bilancia?

Who hath measured in the hollow of his hand the waters? And the heavens by a span hath meted out, And comprehended in a measure the dust of the earth, And hath weighed in scales the mountains, And the hills in a balance?

13 C hi ha preso le dimensioni dello Spirito dell'Eterno, o come suo consigliere gli ha dato insegnamenti?

Who hath meted out the Spirit of Jehovah, And, His counsellor, doth teach Him!

14 C on chi si è consultato, perché gli desse intendimento, e gli insegnasse il sentiero della giustizia, gli impartisse conoscenza e gli mostrasse la via del discernimento?

With whom consulted He, That he causeth Him to understand? And teacheth Him in the path of judgment, And teacheth Him knowledge? And the way of understanding causeth Him to know?

15 E cco, le nazioni sono come una goccia in un secchio, sono considerate come il pulviscolo della bilancia; ecco, egli solleva le isole come un piccolissimo oggetto.

Lo, nations as a drop from a bucket, And as small dust of the balance, have been reckoned, Lo, isles as a small thing He taketh up.

16 I l Libano non basterebbe a provvedere il combustibile per il fuoco, né i suoi animali basterebbero per l'olocausto.

And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, Nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt-offering.

17 T utte le nazioni sono come un nulla davanti a lui e sono da lui ritenute un nulla e vanità.

All the nations as nothing before Him, Less than nothing and emptiness, They have been reckoned to Him.

18 A chi vorreste assomigliare Dio e quale immagine gli mettereste a confronto?

And unto whom do ye liken God, And what likeness do ye compare to Him?

19 U n artista fonde un'immagine scolpita e l'orafo la riveste d'oro e fonde catenelle d'argento.

The graven image poured out hath a artizan, And a refiner with gold spreadeth it over, And chains of silver he is refining.

20 C hi è troppo povero per una tale offerta sceglie un legno che non marcisce e si procura un abile artigiano, perché prepari un'immagine scolpita che non si muova

He who is poor heave-offerings, A tree not rotten doth choose, A skilful artizan he seeketh for it, To establish a graven image -- not moved.

21 M a non lo sapete, non l'avete udito? Non vi è stato annunciato fin dal principio? Non avete compreso dalle fondamenta della terra?

Do ye not know -- do ye not hear? Hath it not been declared from the first to you? Have ye not understood the foundations of the earth?

22 E gli è colui che sta assiso sul globo della terra, i cui abitanti sono come cavallette; egli distende i cieli come un velo e li dispiega come una tenda in cui abitarvi.

He who is sitting on the circle of the earth, And its inhabitants as grasshoppers, He who is stretching out as a thin thing the heavens, And spreadeth them as a tent to dwell in.

23 E gli riduce i principi a un nulla e rende inutili i giudici della terra.

He who is making princes become nothing, Judges of earth as emptiness hath made;

24 A ppena sono piantati, appena seminati, appena il loro stelo ha messo radici in terra, egli soffia su di loro ed essi seccano e l'uragano li porta via come stoppia.

Yea, they have not been planted, Yea, they have not been sown, Yea, not taking root in the earth is their stock, And also He hath blown upon them, and they wither, And a whirlwind as stubble taketh them away.

25 « A chi dunque mi vorreste assomigliare, perché gli sia pari?», dice il Santo.

And unto whom do ye liken Me, And I equal? saith the Holy One.

26 L evate in alto i vostri occhi e guardate: Chi ha creato queste cose? Colui che fa uscire il loro esercito in numero e le chiama tutte per nome; per la grandezza del suo vigore e la potenza della sua forza, nessuna manca.

Lift up on high your eyes, And see -- who hath prepared these? He who is bringing out by number their host, To all of them by name He calleth, By abundance of strength (And strong in power) not one is lacking.

27 P erché dici, o Giacobbe, e tu, Israele, dichiari: «La mia via è nascosta all'Eterno e il mio diritto è trascurato dal mio DIO»?

Why sayest thou, O Jacob? and speakest thou, O Israel? `My way hath been hid from Jehovah, And from my God my judgment passeth over.'

28 N on lo sai forse, non l'hai udito? Il DIO di eternità, l'Eterno, il creatore dei confini della terra, non si affatica e non si stanca, la sua intelligenza è imperscrutabile.

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The God of the age -- Jehovah, Preparer of the ends of the earth, Is not wearied nor fatigued, There is no searching of His understanding.

29 E gli dà forza allo stanco e accresce il vigore allo spossato.

He is giving power to the weary, And to those not strong He increaseth might.

30 I giovani si affaticano e si stancano, i giovani scelti certamente inciampano e cadono,

Even youths are wearied and fatigued, And young men utterly stumble,

31 m a quelli che sperano nell'Eterno acquistano nuove forze, s'innalzano con ali come aquile, corrono senza stancarsi e camminano senza affaticarsi.

But those expecting Jehovah pass power, They raise up the pinion as eagles, They run and are not fatigued, They go on and do not faint!
