1 D opo la morte di Achab, Moab si ribellò contro Israele.

And Moab transgresseth against Israel after the death of Ahab,

2 A chaziah cadde dalla finestra del piano superiore in Samaria e si fece male. Allora mandò messaggeri, ai quali disse: «Andate a consultare Baal-Zebub, dio di Ekron, per sapere se mi riprenderò da questa infermità».

and Ahaziah falleth through the lattice in his upper chamber that in Samaria, and is sick, and sendeth messengers, and saith unto them, `Go ye, inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron if I recover from this sickness.'

3 M a un angelo dell'Eterno disse ad Elia il Tishbita: «Lèvati e va' Incontro ai messaggeri del re di Samaria e di' loro: "E' forse perché non c'è DIO in Israele che voi andate a consultare Baal-Zebub, dio di Ekron?

And a messenger of Jehovah hath spoken unto Elijah the Tishbite, `Rise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and speak unto them, Is it because there is not a God in Israel -- ye are going to inquire of Baal Zebub god of Ekron?

4 P erciò cosí dice l'Eterno: Tu non scenderai più dal letto sul quale sei salito, ma certamente morirai"». Poi Elia se ne andò.

and therefore, thus said Jehovah, The bed whither thou hast gone up, thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die;' and Elijah goeth on.

5 I messaggeri ritornarono da Achaziah, che domandò loro: «Perché siete tornati?».

And the messengers turn back unto him, and he saith unto them, `What this -- ye have turned back!'

6 E ssi gli risposero: «Un uomo ci è venuto incontro e ci ha detto: "Andate, ritornate dal re che vi ha mandato e ditegli: Cosí dice l'Eterno: E forse perchè non c 'è alcun DIO in Israele che tu mandi a consultare Baal-Zebub, dio di Ekron? Per questo non scenderai dal letto sul quale sei salito, ma certamente morirai"».

And they say unto him, `A man hath come up to meet us, and saith unto us, Go, turn back unto the king who sent you, and ye have said unto him, Thus said Jehovah, Is it because there is not a God in Israel -- thou art sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron? therefore, the bed whither thou hast gone up, thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die.'

7 A llora il re chiese loro: «Com'era l'uomo che vi è venuto incontro e vi ha detto queste parole?».

And he saith unto them, `What the fashion of the man who hath come up to meet you, and speaketh unto you these words?'

8 E ssi gli risposero: «Era un uomo con un vestito di pelo e con una cintura di cuoio intorno ai fianchi"». Achaziah, disse: «E' Elia il Tishbita!».

And they say unto him, `A man -- hairy, and a girdle of skin girt about his loins;' and he saith, `He Elijah the Tishbite.'

9 A llora il re mandò da Elia un capitano di cinquanta con i suoi cinquanta uomini; egli salí da lui e trovò Elia seduto in cima al monte. Il capitano gli disse: «O uomo di DIO, il re ti ordina di scendere».

And he sendeth unto him a head of fifty and his fifty, and he goeth up unto him (and lo, he is sitting on the top of the hill), and he speaketh unto him, `O man of God, the king hath spoken, Come down.'

10 E lia rispose e disse al capitano dei cinquanta: «Se sono un uomo di DIO, scenda fuoco dal cielo e consumi te e i tuoi cinquanta uomini!». E dal cielo scese un fuoco, che consumò lui e i suoi cinquanta.

And Elijah answereth and speaketh unto the head of the fifty, `And if I a man of God, fire doth come down from the heavens, and consume thee and thy fifty;' and fire cometh down from the heavens, and consumeth him and his fifty.

11 A llora il re, gli mandò un altro capitano di cinquanta con i suoi cinquanta uomini, che si rivolse ad Elia e gli disse «O uomo di DIO, il re ti ordina di scendere subito».

And he turneth and sendeth unto him another head of fifty and his fifty, and he answereth and speaketh unto him, `O man of God, thus said the king, Haste, come down.'

12 E lia rispose e disse loro: «Se sono un uomo di DIO, scenda fuoco dal cielo e consumi te e i tuoi cinquanta uomini». E dal cielo scese il fuoco di DIO che consumò lui e i suoi cinquanta

And Elijah answereth and speaketh unto them, `If I a man of God, fire doth come down from the heavens, and consume thee and thy fifty;' and fire of God cometh down from the heavens, and consumeth him and his fifty.

13 I l re mandò ancora un terzo capitano di cinquanta con i suoi cinquanta uomini. Questo terzo capitano di cinquanta salí e andò a gettarsi davanti a Elia, e lo supplicò, dicendo: «O uomo di DIO, ti prego, la mia vita e la vita di questi cinquanta tuoi servi siano preziose ai tuoi occhi!

And he turneth and sendeth a third head of fifty and his fifty, and the third head of fifty goeth up, and cometh in, and boweth on his knees over-against Elijah, and maketh supplication unto him, and speaketh unto him, `O man of God, let be precious, I pray thee, my soul and the soul of thy servants -- these fifty -- in thine eyes.

14 E cco, un fuoco è disceso dal cielo e ha consumato i due primi capitani di cinquanta con i loro cinquanta uomini ma ora la mia vita sia preziosa ai tuoi occhi».

Lo, come down hath fire from the heavens, and consumeth the two heads of the former fifties and their fifties; and, now, let my soul be precious in thine eyes.'

15 L 'angelo dell'Eterno disse ad Elia: «Scendi con lui e non aver paura di lui». Perciò Elia si levò e scese con lui dal re

And a messenger of Jehovah speaketh unto Elijah, `Go down with him, be not afraid of him;' and he riseth and goeth down with him unto the king,

16 e gli disse: «Cosí dice l'Eterno: "E' perché non c'è alcun DIO in Israele, di cui si possa consultare la parola che tu hai mandato messaggeri da Baal-Zebub, il dio di Ekron? Per questo non scenderai dal letto sul quale sei salito, ma certamente morirai"».

and speaketh unto him, `Thus said Jehovah, Because that thou hast sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub god of Ekron -- is it because there is not a God in Israel to inquire of His word? therefore, the bed whither thou hast gone up -- thou dost not come down from it, for thou dost certainly die.'

17 C osí Achaziah morì, secondo la parola dell'Eterno pronunciata da Elia. Poiché egli non aveva figli, Jehoram iniziò a regnare al suo posto, nell'anno secondo di Jehoram, figlio di Giosafat, re di Giuda.

And he dieth, according to the word of Jehovah that Elijah spake, and Jehoram reigneth in his stead, in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, for he had no son.

18 I l resto delle gesta compiute da Achaziah non sta forse scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re d'Israele?

And the rest of the matters of Ahaziah that he did, are they not written on the book of the Chronicles of the kings of Israel?
