1 A llora Giuseppe non poté piú contenersi di fronte a tutti gli astanti e gridò: «Fate uscire tutti dalla mia presenza!». Così nessuno rimase con Giuseppe quando egli si fece conoscere ai suoi fratelli.

And Joseph hath not been able to refrain himself before all those standing by him, and he calleth, `Put out every man from me;' and no man hath stood with him when Joseph maketh himself known unto his brethren,

2 E pianse così forte che gli Egiziani stessi lo udirono, e lo venne a sapere anche la casa del Faraone.

and he giveth forth his voice in weeping, and the Egyptians hear, and the house of Pharaoh heareth.

3 Q uindi Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: «Io sono Giuseppe; è mio padre ancora in vita?». Ma i suoi fratelli non gli potevano rispondere perché erano sgomenti alla sua presenza.

And Joseph saith unto his brethren, `I Joseph, is my father yet alive?' and his brethren have not been able to answer him, for they have been troubled at his presence.

4 A llora Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: Deh, avvicinatevi a me!». Quelli si avvicinarono, ed egli disse: Io sono Giuseppe, vostro fratello, che voi vendeste perché fosse condotto in Egitto.

And Joseph saith unto his brethren, `Come nigh unto me, I pray you,' and they come nigh; and he saith, `I Joseph, your brother, whom ye sold into Egypt;

5 M a ora non vi contristate e non vi dispiaccia di avermi venduto perché io fossi condotto quaggiú, poiché DIO mi ha mandato davanti a voi per conservarvi la vita.

and now, be not grieved, nor let it be displeasing in your eyes that ye sold me hither, for to preserve life hath God sent me before you.

6 I nfatti è già due anni che vi è carestia nel paese; e ci saranno altri cinque anni, durante i quali non vi sarà né aratura né messe.

`Because these two years the famine in the heart of the land, and yet five years, which there is neither ploughing nor harvest;

7 M a DIO mi ha mandato davanti a voi perché sia conservato per voi un residuo sulla terra, e per salvarvi la vita con una grande liberazione.

and God sendeth me before you, to place of you a remnant in the land, and to give life to you by a great escape;

8 N on siete dunque voi che mi avete mandato qui, ma è DIO; egli mi ha stabilito come padre del Faraone, come signore di tutta la sua casa e governatore di tutto il paese d'Egitto.

and now, ye -- ye have not sent me hither, but God, and He doth set me for a father to Pharaoh, and for lord to all his house, and ruler over all the land of Egypt.

9 A ffrettatevi a ritornare da mio padre e ditegli: "Così dice tuo figlio Giuseppe: DIO mi ha stabilito come signore di tutto l'Egitto; scendi da me, non tardare;

`Haste, and go up unto my father, then ye have said to him, Thus said Joseph thy son, God hath set me for lord to all Egypt; come down unto me, stay not,

10 t u dimorerai nel paese d Goscen e sarai vicino a me: tu e i tuoi figli, i figli dei tuoi figli, le tue greggi, i tuoi armenti e tutto quello che possiedi.

and thou hast dwelt in the land of Goshen, and been near unto me, thou and thy sons, and thy son's sons, and thy flock, and thy herd, and all that thou hast,

11 E là io ti sostenterò, perché ci saranno ancora cinque anni di carestia, affinché tu non sia ridotto in miseria: tu, la tua famiglia e tutto quello che possiedi".

and I have nourished thee there -- for yet five years of famine -- lest thou become poor, thou and thy household, and all that thou hast.

12 E d ecco, i vostri occhi e gli occhi di mio fratello Beniamino vedono che é la mia bocca quella che vi parla.

`And lo, your eyes are seeing, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that my mouth which is speaking unto you;

13 R accontate dunque a mio padre tutta la mia gloria in Egitto e tutto quello che avete visto, e affrettatevi a condurre mio padre quaggiú».

and ye have declared to my father all my honour in Egypt, and all that ye have seen, and ye have hasted, and have brought down my father hither.'

14 P oi si gettò al collo di suo fratello Beniamino e pianse, e Beniamino pianse stretto al suo collo.

And he falleth on the neck of Benjamin his brother, and weepeth, and Benjamin hath wept on his neck;

15 E gli baciò pure tutti i suoi fratelli e pianse stretto a loro. Dopo questo, i suoi fratelli si misero a parlare con lui.

and he kisseth all his brethren, and weepeth over them; and afterwards have his brethren spoken with him.

16 I l rumore della cosa si sparse nella casa del Faraone, e si disse: «Sono arrivati i fratelli di Giuseppe». Questo fece piacere al Faraone e ai suoi servi.

And the sound hath been heard in the house of Pharaoh, saying, `Come have the brethren of Joseph;' and it is good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants,

17 A llora il Faraone disse a Giuseppe: «Di' ai tuoi fratelli: "Fate questo: Caricate le vostre bestie e andate; tornate nel paese di Canaan.

and Pharaoh saith unto Joseph, `Say unto thy brethren, This do ye: lade your beasts, and go, enter ye the land of Canaan,

18 P oi prendete vostro padre e le vostre famiglie, e venite da me; io vi darò il meglio del paese d'Egitto e mangerete i prodotti migliori del paese".

and take your father, and your households, and come unto me, and I give to you the good of the land of Egypt, and eat ye the fat of the land.

19 T u hai l'ordine di dir loro: "Fate questo: Prendete con voi dal paese di Egitto dei carri per i vostri piccoli e per le vostre mogli; prendete vostro padre e venite.

`Yea, thou -- thou hast been commanded: this do ye, take for yourselves out of the land of Egypt, waggons for your infants, and for your wives, and ye have brought your father, and come;

20 E non preoccupatevi per le vostre masserizie, perché il meglio di tutto il paese d'Egitto sarà vostro"».

and your eye hath no pity on your vessels, for the good of all the land of Egypt yours.'

21 I figli di Israele fecero così, e Giuseppe diede loro dei carri, secondo l'ordine del Faraone, e diede loro delle provviste per il viaggio.

And the sons of Israel do so, and Joseph giveth waggons to them by the command of Pharaoh, and he giveth to them provision for the way;

22 A tutti diede un abito di ricambio per ciascuno; ma a Beniamino diede trecento sicli d'argento e cinque mute di vestiti;

to all of them hath he given -- to each changes of garments, and to Benjamin he hath given three hundred silverlings, and five changes of garments;

23 e a suo padre mandò questo: dieci asini carichi delle migliori cose d'Egitto, dieci asine cariche di grano, di pane e di viveri per suo padre durante il viaggio.

and to his father he hath sent thus: ten asses bearing of the good things of Egypt, and ten she-asses bearing corn and bread, even food for his father for the way.

24 C osì congedò i suoi fratelli e, mentre essi partivano, disse loro: «Non fate litigi per la strada».

And he sendeth his brethren away, and they go; and he saith unto them, `Be not angry in the way.'

25 A llora essi risalirono dall'Egitto e arrivarono nel paese di Canaan da Giacobbe, loro padre.

And they go up out of Egypt, and come in to the land of Canaan, unto Jacob their father,

26 E gli riferirono ogni cosa, dicendo: «Giuseppe è ancora in vita, ed è il governatore di tutto il paese d'Egitto». Ma il suo cuore rimase freddo, perché egli non credeva loro.

and they declare to him, saying, `Joseph yet alive,' and that he ruler over all the land of Egypt; and his heart ceaseth, for he hath not given credence to them.

27 Q uando però essi gli riferirono tutte le parole che Giuseppe aveva loro detto ed egli vide i carri che Giuseppe aveva mandato per condurlo via, allora lo spirito di Giacobbe loro padre si ravvivò,

And they speak unto him all the words of Joseph, which he hath spoken unto them, and he seeth the waggons which Joseph hath sent to bear him away, and live doth the spirit of Jacob their father;

28 e Israele disse: «Basta; il mio figlio Giuseppe è ancora in vita; io andrò a vederlo prima di morire».

and Israel saith, `Enough! Joseph my son yet alive; I go and see him before I die.'
