1 M olto tempo dopo che l'Eterno aveva dato riposo a Israele da tutti i suoi nemici all'intorno, Giosuè, ormai vecchio e avanzato in età,

And it cometh to pass, many days after that Jehovah hath given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua is old, entering into days,

2 c onvocò tutto Israele, i suoi anziani, i suoi capi, i suoi giudici e i suoi ufficiali, e disse loro: «Io sono vecchio e avanzato in età.

and Joshua calleth for all Israel, for its elders, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and saith unto them, `I have become old; I have entered into days;

3 V oi avete visto tutto ciò che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, ha fatto a tutte queste nazioni, a causa di voi, perché è stato l'Eterno stesso, il vostro DIO, che ha combattuto per voi.

and ye -- ye have seen all that Jehovah your God hath done to all these nations because of you, for Jehovah your God He who is fighting for you;

4 E cco io ho diviso tra voi a sorte, come eredità per le vostre tribú, le nazioni che restano, assieme a tutte le nazioni che ho sterminato, dal Giordano fino al Mar Grande, ad ovest.

see, I have caused to fall to you these nations who are left for an inheritance to your tribes, from the Jordan, (and all the nations which I cut off), and the great sea, the going in of the sun.

5 E l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, le espellerà egli stesso davanti a voi e le scaccerà davanti a voi; così voi prenderete possesso del loro paese, come l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, vi ha promesso.

`As to Jehovah your God, He doth thrust them from your presence, and hath dispossessed them from before you, and ye have possessed their land, as Jehovah your God hath spoken to you,

6 S iate dunque molto risoluti nell'osservare e nel mettere in pratica tutto ciò che è scritto nel libro della legge di Mosè, senza deviare né a destra né a sinistra,

and ye have been very strong to keep and to do the whole that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, so as not to turn aside from it right or left,

7 s enza mischiarvi con queste nazioni che rimangono fra di voi; non menzionerete neppure il nome dei loro dèi e non giurerete per essi; non li servirete e non vi prostrerete davanti a loro;

so as not to go in among these nations, these who are left with you; and of the name of their gods ye do not make mention, nor do ye swear, nor do ye serve them, nor do ye bow yourselves to them;

8 m a vi terrete stretti all'Eterno, il vostro DIO, come avete fatto fino ad oggi.

but to Jehovah your God ye do cleave, as ye have done till this day.

9 L 'Eterno infatti ha scacciato davanti a voi nazioni grandi e potenti; e nessuno ha potuto tener fronte a voi fino ad oggi.

And Jehovah is dispossessing from before you nations great and mighty; as for you, none hath stood in your presence till this day;

10 U no solo di voi ne inseguirà mille, perché l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, è colui che combatte per voi, come egli vi ha promesso.

one man of you doth pursue a thousand, for Jehovah your God He who is fighting for you, as He hath spoken to you;

11 F ate quindi molta attenzione alle anime vostre, per amare l'Eterno, il vostro DIO.

and ye have been very watchful for yourselves to love Jehovah your God.

12 M a se vi sviate e vi unite al resto di queste nazioni che sono rimaste fra di voi e vi unite in matrimonio con loro e vi mescolate con esse ed esse con voi,

`But -- if ye at all turn back and have cleaved to the remnant of these nations, these who are left with you, and intermarried with them, and gone in to them, and they to you,

13 s appiate con certezza che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, non continuerà a scacciare queste nazioni davanti a voi; ma esse diventeranno per voi un laccio, una trappola, un flagello ai vostri fianchi e spine nei vostri occhi, finché non siate scomparsi da questo buon paese che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, vi ha dato.

know certainly that Jehovah your God is not continuing to dispossess these nations from before you, and they have been to you for a gin, and for a snare, and for a scourge, in your sides, and for thorns in your eyes, till ye perish from off this good ground which Jehovah your God hath given to you.

14 O r ecco, io me ne vado oggi per la via di tutto il mondo; riconoscete dunque con tutto il vostro cuore e con tutta la vostra anima che non è caduta a terra una sola di tutte le buone parole che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, ha pronunciato nei vostri confronti; si sono tutte avverate per voi; neppure una è caduta a terra.

`And lo, I am going, to-day, in the way of all the earth, and ye have known -- with all your heart, and with all your soul -- that there hath not fallen one thing of all the good things which Jehovah your God hath spoken concerning you; the whole have come to you; there hath not failed of it one thing.

15 E avverrà che, come tutte le buone cose che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, vi aveva promesso si sono avverate per voi, così l'Eterno farà venire su di voi tutte le calamità, finché vi abbia sterminati da questo buon paese che il vostro DIO, l'Eterno, vi ha dato.

`And it hath been, as there hath come upon you all the good thing which Jehovah your God hath spoken unto you, so doth Jehovah bring upon you the whole of the evil thing, till His destroying you from off this good ground which Jehovah your God hath given to you;

16 S e trasgredite il patto che l'Eterno, il vostro DIO, vi ha comandato, e andate a servire altri dèi e vi prostrate davanti a loro, allora l'ira dell'Eterno si accenderà contro di voi, e voi scomparirete presto dal buon paese che egli vi ha dato».

in your transgressing the covenant of Jehovah your God which He commanded you, and ye have gone and served other gods, and bowed yourselves to them, then hath the anger of Jehovah burned against you, and ye have perished hastily from off the good land which He hath given to you.'
