1 P oi prese di nuovo ad insegnare in riva al mare; e una gran folla si radunò intorno a lui, tanto che egli, salito su una barca, vi sedeva stando in mare, mentre l'intera folla era a terra lungo la riva.

And again he began to teach by the sea, and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he, having gone into the boat, sat in the sea, and all the multitude was near the sea, on the land,

2 E d egli insegnava loro molte cose in parabole, e diceva loro nel suo insegnamento:

and he taught them many things in similes, and he said to them in his teaching:

3 « Ascoltate! Ecco, il seminatore uscí a seminare.

`Hearken, lo, the sower went forth to sow;

4 O r avvenne che mentre seminava, una parte del seme cadde lungo la strada e gli uccelli del cielo vennero e la mangiarono.

and it came to pass, in the sowing, some fell by the way, and the fowls of the heaven did come and devour it;

5 U n'altra cadde in luoghi rocciosi dove non c'era molta terra e subito spuntò, perché non c'era un terreno profondo.

and other fell upon the rocky ground, where it had not much earth, and immediately it sprang forth, because of not having depth of earth,

6 M a quando si levò il sole fu riarsa; e poiché non aveva radice si seccò.

and the sun having risen, it was scorched, and because of not having root it did wither;

7 U n'altra cadde tra le spine; le spine crebbero, la soffocarono e non diede frutto.

and other fell toward the thorns, and the thorns did come up, and choke it, and fruit it gave not;

8 U n'altra cadde in buona terra e portò frutto che crebbe, e si sviluppò tanto da rendere l'uno trenta, l'altro sessanta e l'altro cento».

and other fell to the good ground, and was giving fruit, coming up and increasing, and it bare, one thirty-fold, and one sixty, and one an hundred.'

9 P oi egli disse loro: «Chi ha orecchi da udire, oda!».

And he said to them, `He who is having ears to hear -- let him hear.'

10 O ra, quando egli fu solo, coloro che gli stavano attorno con i dodici lo interrogarono sulla parabola.

And when he was alone, those about him, with the twelve, did ask him of the simile,

11 E d egli disse loro: «A voi è dato di conoscere il mistero del regno di Dio; ma a coloro che sono di fuori tutte queste cose si propongono in parabole,

and he said to them, `To you it hath been given to know the secret of the reign of God, but to those who are without, in similes are all the things done;

12 a ffinché: "Vedendo, vedano ma non intendano, udendo, odano ma non comprendano, che talora non si convertano e i peccati non siano loro perdonati"».

that seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may hear and not understand, lest they may turn, and the sins may be forgiven them.'

13 P oi disse loro: «Non comprendete questa parabola? E come comprenderete tutte le altre parabole?

And he saith to them, `Have ye not known this simile? and how shall ye know all the similes?

14 I l seminatore è colui che semina la parola.

He who is sowing doth sow the word;

15 Q uelli lungo la strada sono coloro nei quali viene seminata la parola; ma dopo che l'hanno udita, subito viene Satana e porta via la parola seminata nei loro cuori.

and these are they by the way where the word is sown: and whenever they may hear, immediately cometh the Adversary, and he taketh away the word that hath been sown in their hearts.

16 P arimenti quelli che ricevono il seme su un suolo roccioso sono coloro che, quando hanno udita la parola, subito la ricevono con gioia;

`And these are they, in like manner, who on the rocky ground are sown: who, whenever they may hear the word, immediately with joy do receive it,

17 m a non hanno in sé radice e sono di corta durata; e, quando sopravviene la tribolazione o la persecuzione a causa della parola, sono subito scandalizzati.

and have not root in themselves, but are temporary; afterward tribulation or persecution having come because of the word, immediately they are stumbled.

18 Q uelli invece che ricevono il seme fra le spine, sono coloro che odono la parola;

`And these are they who toward the thorns are sown: these are they who are hearing the word,

19 m a le sollecitudini di questo mondo, l'inganno delle ricchezze e le cupidigie delle altre cose, che sopravvengono, soffocano la parola e questa rimane infruttuosa.

and the anxieties of this age, and the deceitfulness of the riches, and the desires concerning the other things, entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

20 M a quelli che hanno ricevuto il seme in buon terreno, sono coloro che odono la parola, la ricevono e portano frutto, chi il trenta, chi il sessanta e chi il cento».

`And these are they who on the good ground have been sown: who do hear the word, and receive, and do bear fruit, one thirty-fold, and one sixty, and one an hundred.'

21 D isse loro ancora: «Si prende forse la lampada per metterla sotto il moggio o sotto il letto? Non la si mette piuttosto sopra il candeliere?

And he said to them, `Doth the lamp come that under the measure it may be put, or under the couch -- not that it may be put on the lamp-stand?

22 P oiché non c'è nulla di nascosto che non sia manifestato, né nulla di segreto che non sia palesato.

for there is not anything hid that may not be manifested, nor was anything kept hid but that it may come to light.

23 C hi ha orecchi da udire, oda!».

If any hath ears to hear -- let him hear.'

24 D isse loro ancora: «Fate attenzione a ciò che udite. Con la stessa misura con cui misurate, sarà misurato a voi; e a voi che udite sarà dato di piú.

And he said to them, `Take heed what ye hear; in what measure ye measure, it shall be measured to you; and to you who hear it shall be added;

25 P oiché a chi ha, sarà dato; ma a chi non ha, gli sarà tolto anche quello che ha».

for whoever may have, there shall be given to him, and whoever hath not, also that which he hath shall be taken from him.'

26 D isse ancora: «Il regno di Dio è come un uomo che getta il seme in terra.

And he said, `Thus is the reign of God: as if a man may cast the seed on the earth,

27 O ra la notte e il giorno, mentre egli dorme e si alza, il seme germoglia e cresce senza che egli sappia come.

and may sleep, and may rise night and day, and the seed spring up and grow, he hath not known how;

28 P oiché la terra produce spontaneamente prima lo stelo, poi la spiga, poi il chicco pieno nella spiga.

for of itself doth the earth bear fruit, first a blade, afterwards an ear, afterwards full corn in the ear;

29 E , quando il frutto è maturo, il mietitore mette subito mano alla falce perché è venuta la mietitura».

and whenever the fruit may yield itself, immediately he doth send forth the sickle, because the harvest hath come.'

30 D isse ancora: «A che cosa paragoneremo il regno di Dio? O con quale parabola lo rappresenteremo?

And he said, `To what may we liken the reign of God, or in what simile may we compare it?

31 E sso è simile a un granello di senape che, quando è seminato in terra, è il piú piccolo di tutti i semi che sono sulla terra;

As a grain of mustard, which, whenever it may be sown on the earth, is less than any of the seeds that are on the earth;

32 m a, dopo che è stato seminato, cresce e diventa il piú grande di tutte le erbe, e mette rami cosí grandi che gli uccelli del cielo possono ripararsi sotto la sua ombra».

and whenever it may be sown, it cometh up, and doth become greater than any of the herbs, and doth make great branches, so that under its shade the fowls of the heaven are able to rest.'

33 E con molte parabole di questo genere annunciava loro la parola, come essi erano in grado di capire.

And with many such similes he was speaking to them the word, as they were able to hear,

34 E non parlava loro senza parabole; ma in privato ai suoi discepoli spiegava ogni cosa.

and without a simile he was not speaking to them, and by themselves, to his disciples he was expounding all.

35 O r in quello stesso giorno, fattosi sera, disse loro: «Passiamo all'altra riva».

And he saith to them on that day, evening having come, `We may pass over to the other side;'

36 E i discepoli, licenziata la folla, lo presero con loro, cosí come egli era, nella barca. Con lui c'erano altre barchette.

and having let away the multitude, they take him up as he was in the boat, and other little boats also were with him.

37 S i scatenò una gran bufera di vento e le onde si abbattevano sulla barca, tanto che questa si riempiva.

And there cometh a great storm of wind, and the waves were beating on the boat, so that it is now being filled,

38 E gli intanto stava dormendo a poppa, su un guanciale. Essi lo destarono e gli dissero: «Maestro, non t'importa che noi periamo?».

and he himself was upon the stern, upon the pillow sleeping, and they wake him up, and say to him, `Teacher, art thou not caring that we perish?'

39 E d egli, destatosi, sgridò il vento e disse al mare: «Taci e calmati!». E il vento cessò e si fece gran bonaccia.

And having waked up, he rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, `Peace, be stilled;' and the wind did lull, and there was a great calm:

40 P oi disse loro: «Perché siete voi cosí paurosi? Come mai non avete fede?».

and he said to them, `Why are ye so fearful? how have ye not faith?'

41 E d essi furono presi da gran timore e dicevano tra loro: «Chi è dunque costui al quale anche il vento e il mare ubbidiscono?».

and they feared a great fear, and said one to another, `Who, then, is this, that even the wind and the sea do obey him?'
